Avatar f tn Elevated blood glucose levels are indicative of gestational diabetes, although no one seems to know exactly what causes it. Hormones in the placenta can block the action of the mother's insulin in her body; insulin resistance makes it hard for the mother's body to use insulin, and without enough insulin glucose is turned into energy because it can't leave the body. A high level of blood glucose, called hyperglycemia, requires the baby to work harder.

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop in some women late in pregnancy (usually after the 24th week). Women who develop gestational diabetes do not have diabetes before becoming pregnant. The oral glucose tolerance test involves quickly drinking a sweetened liquid (called Glucola), which contains 50 g of glucose.
Avatar f tn I had blood work Done and my doctor said my blood sugar levels were high I had to do a one hour glucose and my blood sugar levels were still high 164 to be exact. I was told that now I have to do a 3hr glucose. I'm only 5w3d has anyone out there been Thu this or is going thu this.
325405 tn?1262290178 I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that. I also know that gestational diabetes is more strict with blood sugar levels than regular type II diabetes. Now that I have type II, what are the ranges to aim for for blood sugar levels for fasting and then for 2 hours after a meal?
Avatar f tn I have gestational diabetes and they do check with every urine test to see if you have glucose in your urine. It helps them determine if your body is having issues producing and using insulin. I will tell you glucose will show up in your urine the more sugar you eat so if you are eating a lot of Ben and jerry's that's probably what is doing it. If i go off my diet and eat a few cookies they see the glucose in my urine.
Avatar n tn In the event that you had a fasting blood glucose test, a dimension somewhere in the range of 70 and 100 mg/dL (3.9 and 5.6 mmol/L) is viewed as ordinary. In the event that you had an arbitrary blood glucose test, an ordinary outcome relies upon when you last ate. More often than not, the blood glucose level will be underneath 125 mg/dL (6.
Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.

6674791 tn?1396215150 ( pricking your finger and testing your blood sugar ) as long as you control your diet and keep your sugar levels good then all will be good. If diet and exercise doesn't work they will send you to a diabetes doctor. I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. I controlled it very well. This is my second pregnancy and my sugars were too high for fasting so they put me on metformin and I'm doing great.
Avatar n tn I have gestational diabetes.
Avatar f tn So because I threw up during the 3hr glucose test, I have to check my blood sugar levels at home for a week. So just curious what is the normal range? I have to check it when I wake up and 1-2 hrs after every meal.
1285850 tn?1291776435 Every baby has the possibility of getting any problem related to gestational diabetes though. It's not your fault! When were getting bigger we don't have much stomach room which causes our body to not have a lot of room to break down our sugars which can cause high sugar levels in any pregnant woman. Even if you have gestational diabetes then don't worry because many people have had healthy babies with it!
Avatar n tn I am now on a diabetic diet for gestational diabetes. Why is it important to be 90 or below before getting pregnant? Could this cause infertility? Since I've been on the diet my fasting glucose ranges from 91 to 97. My reading before and after dinner are within the reccomended limits for gestational diabetes. Why is my fasting level so high? I even cheated with a fast food hamburger once and the next moring my fasting glusose was 94.
Avatar n tn Anyone else ever have to take levels PRIOR to being diagnosed with gestational diabetes?
4430052 tn?1355003242 is it just change in diet? I took 1 hr glucose test at about 13 weeks because diabetes runs in my family but that one was good. now I have to do it again in a couple weeks n in hope i pass that one too.
Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that comes on during a woman's pregnancy. You don't even need to have a family history of it. You can have it in one pregnancy and not another, although it's more common in subsequent pregnancies once you have had it. It goes away after pregnancy. What happens is your body slows down metabolism during pregnancy to ensure that your growing baby gets enough nutrients.
Avatar n tn Hi, certainly it is possible to have diabetes (more likely after gestational diabetes). You probably should be checked for type 1 diabetes, which can also occur as an adult. This will involve antibody testing as well as checking blood insulin levels. Although your sugar levels are not terribly high, they do seem higher than normal. Hba1c of 5.2 is not high, and still within high normal range.
Avatar n tn Thanks. I have Gestational Diabetes right now, and occasionally I will see it drift up in the 140's, but that is typically about an hour after eating (usually more carbs than I should). So I was wondering what is actually a normal peak level. Thanks again... I test 4 times a day, and when I test my levels are always within normal ranges....
Avatar n tn Hello, Im am 17 weeks pregnant and went in today to have the 3 hour glucose test performed. I had Gestational Diabetes in my second pregnancy, but it skipped my third pregnancy. This is my fourth. After the test I did not eat or drink anything for about 1/2 an hour, because we were picking up my son from school and getting lunch. Within 20 minutes of finishing the test, I got really shaky and sweating (Its in the 20's today) while waiting in line for my food.
Avatar f tn I walked because I was antsy but later found out walking and other light exercise really helps lower blood sugar levels! Good luck! I had it with my last pregnancy and ended up doing 4 shots a day! Yuck! I'm 70 lbs lighter with this one though so I'm hoping that will help!
Avatar f tn I have gestational diabetes and was put on a diet and also insulin. Doctor didn't want me taking pills to control it. I check my levels 4 times a day and take insulin 4 times a day. They are small dosage but it helps the baby maintain her levels. She is measuring slightly bigger than her age. Best part is I see her often with ultrasounds. All in all nothing to be afraid about. We as mothers will do what we have to do to take care of our bodies for our unborn. Hope this helps.
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
Avatar f tn I am currently 18 weeks and I had my blood work done and my doctor told me my blood sugar level was at 169 and that it was really high. I went back in yesterday and did some more blood work to check if its still the same and I won't hear my results until this coming Thursday. I'm really scared & nervous that I can have gestational diabetes. This is my first pregnancy and I'm only 21 years old. Has anyone had gestational diabetes during pregnancy?
