Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose levels in diabetes type 2

Avatar m tn I never noticed any increased levels in my blood glucose levels tho. Try one for a day or two, monitor your levels and see if they affect anything. Something that I do is look at the lables when I am not sure if something is ok for me. When you do this compare the lables from a diet soda to a regular soda and see what they look like, this will pretty much give you a answer as well.
Avatar n tn For a personwith type2 diabetes what might happen to blood glucose levels over 1 24 hr period if they had not taken any medication for controling their diabetes? What serious consequence could result?

Avatar f tn I just realized that I haven't seen my diabetes specialist in about three years. On my last visit she "discharged" me to the care of my internist. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 5 years ago, at age 62. My glucose levels are stable at around 110, hB!ac 5.9. I've recently lost 25 kg, do some mild exercise and feel good. I'm taking metformin twice a day (750 mg).
Avatar f tn Usually, when extra weight is a factor, the reason for type 2 diabetes is high levels of free fatty acids and triglycerides in the blood (they interfere with glucose absorption in muscle cells). The only sure way to lower the levels of fatty acids and triglycerides in the blood is to get rid of excess body fat. Then muscle cells will be able to feed on glucose unimpeded and this will lead to its lower level in the blood.
Avatar m tn If you are determined to be pre-diabetic or to have type 2 diabetes then you can begin to determine a plan to manage your blood sugars. Type 2 diabetes is a manageable condition, but if you ignore it the consequences are quite serious. Managing type 2 diabetes is done with carb reduction, weight loss if needed, exercise and oral meds if your doctor determines this is needed.
Avatar n tn There are several ways you can diagnose diabetes. Your level last night after one cup of soda is more representative of a random blood glucose. A random glucose of >200mg/dL with symptoms of diabetes is diagnostic of Type 2 Diabetes. Therefore, from that one measure, you do not have Type 2 Diabetes. However, your fasting sugar is within the pre-diabetic range. Are you pregnant? You posted in the gestation diabetes section which is diabetes within pregnancy. Hope that helps!
Avatar n tn have type 2 diabetes latey bkood sugars beteen 250 -380 seen doctor recently was put o lantus 10u did nothing called doc she said to go up to 15u been a few days should i see a specialst she says she can control has not changed does lantus take awhile to take effect an also o metformin 1000 glipizide and juniva
Avatar n tn When you were diagnosed, did they do a fasting blood glucose? To diagnose diabetes, your A1C has to be 6.5 or higher, or your fasting blood glucose (blood sugar) has to be equal to or greater than 126 mg/dl (7 mmol/l). This test has to be taken when you've fasted (not had anything to eat) for at least 8 hours. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/7104-diabetes-mellitus-an-overview/diagnosis-and-tests https://www.diabetes.
Avatar n tn The last possibility that I have heard about from other type 2 diabetics is that sometimes if glucose levels have been left untreated and high for a long time, the person can feel pretty crummy for the first few weeks after starting medicines to lower the glucose levels, for the body has gotten used to the elevated glucose levels as being the "norm." It can take some time for you to feel OK as your body adjusts to new glucose levels as being normal again.
Avatar n tn Just one more comment to add to what has already been written. Most endocrinologists will put a diabetic patient who uses insulin on a sliding scale of insulin, depending on what the blood glucose is when you test before a meal. The ideal is of course for glucose levels to be in the "normal" before meal range of between something like 70-126 (different doctors use slightly different numbers, but this is pretty typical).
Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar n tn Levels between 100 and 126 mg/dl are referred to as impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes. These levels are considered to be risk factors for type 2 diabetes and its complications. Diabetes is typically diagnosed when fasting blood glucose levels are 126 mg/dl or higher. Note: mg/dL = milligrams per deciliter" Weight control and diet play a large, large part in controlling diabetes. For reading on diabetes control go here http://tinyurl.
Avatar f tn All diabetics are a bit different in what we can eat and still keep our blood glucose in target range. In general most of us find we need to eliminate sugar and greatly reduce carbohydrate intake especially things like white bread, cereal rice and pasta. The best way to know what works for YOU is to try a certain food and test your blood glucose two hours after eating and make sure you stay within target.
Avatar m tn My question is i have type 2 diabetes, and in the morings before i eat my blood sugar reading is 140 to 162 my meds are metformin 1ooo mg in the morning, and 1ooo in the eaving with meals. i allso take dlipizide 5 mg in the morning before i eat and 5 mg in eaving before i eat.my last ac1 was 7.3 up from 6.9 my urin creatine was 116. and creatine was 1.
Avatar n tn We have described best glucose levels in children as they grow and develop: Five and younger: Normal blood sugar targets are 100 to 200mg/dl. Age 5 to 11: Normal blood sugar targets are 70 to 150mg/dl. Fasting blood sugars should be nearer to 70mg/dL. Blood sugar after meals and before bedtime should be near 150mg/dL. Age 12 and older A healthy glucose level of age 12 and elder should be near 70mg/dl when fasting and 150mg/dl after meals.
