Blood alcohol readings

Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol readings

alcohol

Avatar n tn About a month ago my liver function readings were elevated, so my Doctor took me off Lipitor to see if it was the Lipitor or alcohol consumption causing them to be high. He told me to come back in one month to be tested again. Even without the Lipitor, they went up some to 74 AST and 142 ALT. Now he wants me to go to get a GI Specialist. I asked if this was for more testing, he just said no, but they would be better off determining what medication you should be on.
Avatar f tn do you think that could have caused the machine not to read the blood properly? I also did not give the alcohol on his fingers very long to dry. could that have caused a wrong reading?
Avatar n tn I am a 55 year old male who has high cholesterol and high blood pressure and recently had blood work done showing the following: GGT - 159 AST (SGOT) - 25 ALT (SGPT) - 36 Alk Phos - 82 Total Bili - 0.9 Dir Bil - 0.1 Tot. Prot 7.6 The blood work was unexpected, so I didn't fast before going in. In fact, had taken a small amount Nyquil (with alcohol) the night before and an Ibuprofin.
Avatar f tn I'm a 37 year old female, non smoker, who rarely drinks alcohol and is not overweight. In the past year, I was diagnosed with an arrhythmis (sinus node reentry tachycardia), a dilated aortic root, brain aneurysm, Chiari malformation, arachnoid cyst, degenerative disc disease and mild spinal stenosis. Last week, I was experiencing severe pressure in my head which got me to my PCP. He immediately sent me to the ER where a CT scan was done.
283921 tn?1218525506 Talk to your doctor about alternatives for lowering BP. I have have read that sugar, caffiene, alcohol, and stress can increase blood pressure, so try to reduce or elimate as many possible sources as you can. I have read that Omega3 fatty acids may decrease blood pressure. I have read celery, garlic and onions may reduce blood pressure.
1080243 tn?1262975363 I'm a little confused, tarter. When you say your husband has "high readings 16-25 but no signs of diabetes", are those blood sugar readings? If so 16-25 (288-450 U.S.) ARE diabetic readings and the 25 especially is dangerously high. The fatigue and weight loss could very much be symptoms of diabetes. He should get checked with an A1C (an average of blood sugars for the last couple months).
Avatar m tn A blood alcohol level is generally taken, which may not be provided to you. An abnormal blood alcohol read on on a physician flags the patient as a potential alcoholic. So, besides interfering with test readings, you end up with an comment in your health records that someday may come back to haunt you.

209227 tn?1242346745 I asked him if I should start testing my blood sugar on my arms like I see in some commercials. He said blood readings are not as accurate testing on the arm as it is on the fingers. He told me to discuss this w/ my M.D. (Endocrin.). Looks like next weeks I tell my M.D. about this major problem I currently having.
Avatar f tn Diabetics who have had a very high blood sugar for a long time can tolerate such high readings. Or people who drink alcohol on a regular basis because alcohol helps to lower blood sugar. A glucometer can only measure up to 500. Anything above that will register as "High".
Avatar n tn I've been worried about my blood pressure for awhile since I tend to have high readings at the doctor's office. I do get severely anxious and worried at the doctors office and 2nd office readings are usually a bit lower than the first. I have started monitoring my bp at home, and have normal average readings (morning avg= 113/78, afternoon/evening avg=121/81).
Avatar m tn My partner has high blood pressure and we don’t know why. Can anyone suggest me which speciality doctor will treat this problem.

Avatar f tn That would be what would tell you how concerned you should be with your blood sugar number. What the doctor is watching whether you need some form of insulin to keep your sugar to a acceptable level.
Avatar m tn If you have got the above readings using this new instrument, I would advise you to cross check the readings from a diagnostic center just to make sure that your readings are correct.
Avatar n tn If he feels lightheaded, or if he is light-headed when he stands up from a prone or sitting position, then low blood pressure readings can be dangerous. 89/53 isn't all that low in my opinion. It's low average, but unless accompanied with chest pains, dizziness and sweats, I'd suggest he drink a lot of fluids, wait an hour, and take it again. Dehydration/alcohol use can lower blood pressures.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the response. She doesn't drink alcohol and she has had 3 blood tests over about half a year where it has been elevated. The readings were over 100 in 2 of the tests. Her ALP seems to be normal as well.
Avatar n tn I had elevated Liver enzymes on a recent blood tests - I realized after seeing the results that I had gone to a baseball game the night before and consumed more than usual - probably around 12 beers - could this have triggered the high readings.
Avatar m tn Adoption agencies do these tests to see if perhaps you have a serious alcohol problem. If you drink alcohol, you need to stop completely for a month and repeat the tests. If you do not drink alcohol, you need to have your doctor run tests for chronic hepatitis (Hepatitis B and C) and even acute hepatitis (Type A). Medications can also cause this - cholesterol medicines and even Prilosec.
