Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol metabolism

alcohol

Avatar f tn I'm not sure to whom you are addressing your question. I haven't done a lot of research on the subject, but since hypothyroidism does affect metabolism, I'd guess that alcohol metabolism would be altered, just as food metabolism is altered.

Avatar f tn After these enzymes have been activated, they remain so even in the absence of alcohol, affecting the metabolism of certain drugs for several weeks after cessation of drinking. Thus, a recently abstinent chronic drinker may need higher doses of medications than those required by nondrinkers to achieve therapeutic levels of certain drugs. Third, enzymes activated by chronic alcohol consumption transform some drugs into toxic chemicals that can damage the liver or other organs.
Avatar n tn I would not advise drinking with any medication that affects your metabolism, but that is a hard question to respond to when no knows your medical history, age, any high BP? it is just to vague to respond with an answer, so to be safe, I would say no, and the medication is still in your system, so just not taking it the day you drink Does not make it safe.
Avatar n tn It kinda depends on how ur metabolism is alcohol peaks 30 to 90 minutes after a drink so id definitely wait at least 2hrs after the shot.
Avatar f tn Going back to your response to the lady who asked about alterations in alcohol metabolism after partial or total thyroidectomy, is it true that if you are suffering from hypothyroidism that it is possible that alcohol metabolism could be slowed/ altered? I would appreciate any feed back you can offer.
8442871 tn?1398141631 What medication are you taking? Many antidepressant, often used for anxiety, are notorious for weight gain, and even relaxants can slow metabolism, but it would depend on how often you're taking them. So what drugs and how often? Alcohol is also a relaxant and also slows metabolism, that's the whole point of drinking it.
Avatar f tn The medication you refer to are drugs that relate specifically to the chemistry of which remodels blood vessel anatomy and heart rate and doesn't affect alcohol levels in the blood. There may be an interaction that affects metabolism with coreg and has side effects.
Avatar m tn alcohol though needed by the body can be generated from the food we eat ...excessive intake of alcohol isbad to your health...lesser intake but prolonged and habitual intake is also bad to your health and can put you at risk of liver diseases such as hepatitis which progresses to scarring of the liver which finally progresses toliver cancer. less percentage of people survive this.
Avatar m tn 7 week and 165 day blood test an 4 oralswab at home test after 90 days all neg. I was on 3 steroid dosal packs and two steroid epidurals during this time. I'm a slow metabolizer missing enzyme cyp2d6.
Avatar n tn I'm a female, age 46, began having extremely low energy and lack of stamina about seven years ago. Nothing helped until a few weeks ago when I started taking an l-carnitine supplement. I felt better almost immediately. I've had symptoms of hypoglycemia all my life (I used to pass out in high school and was on seizure meds until I realized all I had to do was eat a candy bar), but blood glucose levels are usually normal when measured. Annual fasting test is normal.
233616 tn?1312787196 So for example, if you take a blood pressure medication that is metabolized by CYP3A4, inhibiting this enzyme with grapefruit juice may raise the levels of the blood pressure med in your blood and IN YOUR LIVER....and it can cause an overdose (and your blood pressure to go down too low). So if you want to lower your viral load by drinking grapefruit juice, you'll need to make sure that you're not taking any meds that are metabolized by CYP450.
Avatar n tn 8 AND MY GAMMA GT HAS RISEN FROM 76 TO 105 IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS. I AM A LIGHT TO MODERATE DRINKER AND AM A 61 YEAR OLD FEMALE. ALL OTHER BLOOD TESTS ARE NORMAL. I HAVE NEVER HAD ABNORMAL RESULTS BEFORE. WHAT COULD BE THE REASON FOR THESE?
Avatar f tn Talk to doctor he said my metabolism has slowed due to the med, as well as low estrogen, Any advice? weight is at stand still even with exercise and moderate food intake, water.
Avatar n tn Increased susceptibility of females possibly is related to sex-dependent differences in the hepatic metabolism of alcohol, cytokine production, and the gastric metabolism of alcohol.
Avatar m tn DAY 3!! man, i feel better, maybe it's because i only had 1 oxy 80 within the last 5 days so i'm went over the top already and now i'm slowly healing.
