Avatar n tn I have been diabetic since I was 5, I am 24 now. I had lead a very unhealthly life style, I eat alot of fast and unhealthy foods, but my portions are quite limted (I only eat when hungry really). Sometimes I go through a whole day by snacking countless times during the day, eating only 1 decent meal. I am not over-weight, but I have found myself to have a very fast motablosim. But I still eat very very unhealthy. Regardless: My question is... does alchohol really affect diabetics?
Avatar n tn A bartender I know says that drinking vodka is better than scotch or rum because of their sugar content. But I know that none of those liquors have any carbohydrates, so I'm confused. Can anyone help?
Avatar f tn t enough to effect your baby when you do drink because it does into your body and say your blood alcohol content is .08 which is the legal limit then the amount in your milk would only be a very small percentage of that. I would talk to a person who knows more though before making a decision...
Avatar f tn Hi tety, Reversal no but you can control it by diet; start out early and eat only the right foods, stay away from alcohol (very high sugar content), but don't punish yourself, still have your morning coffee, just without donuts hehe It's great that you have no High chol & BP, but not so good that your blood sugar was 10. Aim to keep it between 5 on the lower end of the scale and no more than 8 on the high scale.
1549468 tn?1345468736 Since then every time my blood work comes back with a high alcohol content, as high as .17. I do not drink, as I choose to break the "cycle" of a family of alcoholics no matter how hard. I do not use over-the-counter meds, or mouthwases, or cook with alcohol, as I stay away from all forms. Does anyone know what can be causing this? My drs. say it is not my meds.
Avatar n tn He had recent bloodwork that showed amonia in his blood. I would like to know if anyone knows what the normal range is for ammonia in a person;s blood. What an elevated number and what's not?
Avatar f tn After passing the field sobriety test my blood was taken and had a content of .13. I do not believe this could be correct. My red blood cell count was 4.21- 10*12L my hemoglobin was 13.1g/dl. I wish I could post my panels on here.
Avatar n tn Haemochromatosis causes weakness, fatigue, and pain in the right hypochondrium near the liver. A high dietary intake of iron, alcohol intake, multiple blood transfusions and hemolytic anemia can lead to high iron levels. Serum iron levels fluctuate during the day so it is preferred that the test should be done fasting. Other tests like trnasferrin saturation and TIBC may be needed. Liver biopsy to measure iron content of liver tissue confirms the diagnosis. Seek the opinion of hepatologist.
Avatar n tn I read somewhere that this is most likely due to high tyramine content in the beer. I also have this problem when drinking red wine and to a lesser degree white wine. I noticed that vodka does not affect me in this way and have read that it is low in tyramine. What other alcoholic beverages are low in tyramine? Is Cider low in tyramine?
Avatar m tn alcohol is not detected in urine.......drugs are.Alcohol content in blood is calibrated with a breathalyzer machine and depending on how long you drank for and within a certain time frame it can show up within a 24 hr.period.Alcohol is metabolized in the body in two ways-carbon dioxide......breathing it out of your system when it has gone thru the bloodstream and then the system flushes it in urination.
1549468 tn?1345468736 Sorry folks, but I really don'y drink and never have. But for some reason, after my first Grand-mal seizure in July 2010, every time they test my blood, it comes back with a high alcohol content. one time as high as .17. I don't cook with alcohol, use mouthwash, or any over the counter medications. my dr. said that my prescribed meds. would not cause this. Now, they put in my med records that I am a denied alcoholic. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Avatar f tn You certainly can drink and breastfeed as long as its a reasonable amount you are drinking (roughly one drink per hour). Firstly pump and dump is a waste of milk no matter how much you pump the.alcohol in your milk is Dependant on the alcohol in your blood and how quickly your body metabolizes it. Test strips are also a waste of money... Also just because you have a drink or two over the course of about an hour doesn't mean that your breast milk has the same alcohol content as your drinks.
Avatar f tn I say she is causing her baby harm because it is alcohol, regardless of the alcohol content. She also recently found out that her baby has Partial Trisomy 18? Even after finding this out, she continues to drink. Who is right? And what can I try to say to her to get her to change her ways for the sake of her unborn child.
975968 tn?1248139716 I was told by the doctor that I am in the middle of the scale for liver damage do to hepatitis C. On a scale from 0 to 4 I am a 2 and I have type 1a which is resistant to treatment, stubborn. I was told by my doctor that a new treatment is in the works and that I should wait about year and see if any thing in this area of treatment has changed. Meanwhile I should get a blood test every 6 month to check on my liver.

1102792 tn?1285925260 was taking atenolol 100mg, amlodipine, captopril and moduretic daily for the hbp but have recently dropped off atenolol and amlodipine and resorted to a reduced salt diet, little or no alcohol and little or no smoking. I have noticed that pirton seems to help with the rapid sneezing and antacids seems to help with the smelly throat and sour taste in the mouth.
Avatar f tn I was told not to pump and dump, its better to wait it out because the alcohol content in breast milk will be the same as in your blood, as youre blood alcohol levels decrease so will the amount in the breast milk and pumping and dumping will just be a waste. My dr told me that its better to just wait it out and to pump a little every now and then and use these test strips from walmart.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your question. Biochemical failure after prostatectomy is defined as elevated PSA between 0.2 - 0.4 ng/mL. Depending on the primary therapy and where the disease has extended to, this may warrant the use of radiation therapy in conjunction with hormones. Thanks again for your question. Ash K. But remember, the alcoholic content differs among different kinds of alcoholic beverages. Avatar f tn He said the stress of wanting it and not having it was way worse than what the alcohol content of one glass would do to the baby. He also recommended it to help me sleep and deal with anxiety and bh contractions. Honestly though, since he gave me "permission", I've only wanted it twice (I'm 27 weeks now), so I've only had 2 glasses.
Avatar f tn For instance if you add beer or wine to boiling liquid, then immediately remove it from the heat, 85 per cent of the alcohol content will remain. If you light the alcohol, as in flambé dishes, 75 per cent will remain. Even after simmering the dish for one and a half hours, it will still have 20 per cent of the original alcohol content.
Avatar m tn Avoid those foods which are high in oil content. Eliminate alcohol, stop smoking and avoid caffeinated beverages. Practice relaxation techniques and avoid becoming overanxious and to Enjoy a Stress free Life. In addition to this you need to be active, use any excuse to be physically active, walk daily for at least 30 minutes briskly, use the stairway instead of the elevator, think of walking to the supermarket, enjoy a sport, swimming, badminton lawn tennis etc. This is the key to success.
172023 tn?1334672284 Water makes up about 60% of total body mass. Normal fluctuations in the body’s water content can send scale-watchers into a tailspin if they don’t understand what’s happening. Two factors influencing water retention are water consumption and salt intake. Strange as it sounds, the less water you drink, the more of it your body retains. If you are even slightly dehydrated your body will hang onto it’s water supplies with a vengeance, possibly causing the number on the scale to inch upward.
