Avatar n tn I have been diabetic since I was 5, I am 24 now. I had lead a very unhealthly life style, I eat alot of fast and unhealthy foods, but my portions are quite limted (I only eat when hungry really). Sometimes I go through a whole day by snacking countless times during the day, eating only 1 decent meal. I am not over-weight, but I have found myself to have a very fast motablosim. But I still eat very very unhealthy. Regardless: My question is... does alchohol really affect diabetics?
Avatar n tn Let me tell you a story... To define my answer. In brief: My sister is older than me. She got married almost a year ago. I know my part about meds. She knows her part. I had a headache and I knew that later that night the BBQ would lead to a beer, and I thought: Ack, I'll let that beer be. The headache is more important for me to cure right now than giving my liver too much work. My sister on the other hand panicked when I asked for two regular tylenols.
Avatar n tn A bartender I know says that drinking vodka is better than scotch or rum because of their sugar content. But I know that none of those liquors have any carbohydrates, so I'm confused. Can anyone help?
Avatar f tn I thought it would be a mild toner, and I love the effects of salicylic acid, however I was surprised at the alcohol content which was apparent to me upon using it the first time. I haven't experienced any redness or extreme sensitivity/dryness, but if I do I will try using just once per day. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn Not even with extremely high alcohol content drinks like everclear? It's 75% and and I drank half a bottle in an evening along with the vodka. And having not drunken anything for about a week mow I'm still having gastrointestinal discomfort and pains where my liver is. Maybe not liver failure, but with the high content alcohol maybe some sort of damage could have been incurred?
Avatar f tn t enough to effect your baby when you do drink because it does into your body and say your blood alcohol content is .08 which is the legal limit then the amount in your milk would only be a very small percentage of that. I would talk to a person who knows more though before making a decision...
Avatar f tn He said the stress of wanting it and not having it was way worse than what the alcohol content of one glass would do to the baby. He also recommended it to help me sleep and deal with anxiety and bh contractions. Honestly though, since he gave me "permission", I've only wanted it twice (I'm 27 weeks now), so I've only had 2 glasses.
1549468 tn?1345468736 Since then every time my blood work comes back with a high alcohol content, as high as .17. I do not drink, as I choose to break the "cycle" of a family of alcoholics no matter how hard. I do not use over-the-counter meds, or mouthwases, or cook with alcohol, as I stay away from all forms. Does anyone know what can be causing this? My drs. say it is not my meds.
Avatar f tn Hi, im 17 and ive just been told i have iron deficiency anemia (blood count 9.2) and my blood pressure is very low (82/55). Im taking Ferrous Sulphate and have changed my diet but my doctor didnt say anything about it increasing my blood pressure level. Im just wondering if anemia and low blood pressure go hand in hand and will increase with my iron levels or if i need to find a way of increasing it myself. If that is the case then any suggestions how i would go about it would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn After passing the field sobriety test my blood was taken and had a content of .13. I do not believe this could be correct. My red blood cell count was 4.21- 10*12L my hemoglobin was 13.1g/dl. I wish I could post my panels on here.
Avatar n tn Haemochromatosis causes weakness, fatigue, and pain in the right hypochondrium near the liver. A high dietary intake of iron, alcohol intake, multiple blood transfusions and hemolytic anemia can lead to high iron levels. Serum iron levels fluctuate during the day so it is preferred that the test should be done fasting. Other tests like trnasferrin saturation and TIBC may be needed. Liver biopsy to measure iron content of liver tissue confirms the diagnosis. Seek the opinion of hepatologist.
Avatar m tn Is there alcohol content in your concoction??? If so, then its effects would be exactly that of a like alcoholic beverage with similar % alc content. As for "graduating" to cirrhosis. Best let your Doc determine that, get some bloodwork - and then if he/she detects change and markers, may order the good ole biopsy. Hope you get at the root cause of your ailment(s) and can feel fantastic!
Avatar f tn The effects of alcohol are increased by medicines that slow down the central nervous system, such as sleeping pills, antihistamines, antidepressants, antianxiety drugs, and some painkillers. In addition, medicines for certain disorders, including diabetes and heart disease, can be dangerous if used with alcohol. If you are taking any over-the-counter or prescription medications, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether you can safely drink alcohol.
Avatar f tn It is well known that heavy alcohol consumption can lead to severe liver disease including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, but the effects of alcohol on HCV and its treatment are less well studied. As described in the December 15, 2008 Journal of Infectious Diseases, E. McCartney and colleagues performed a laboratory study using cultured Huh-7 cells to examine the effects of alcohol metabolism on HCV replication and the antiviral activity of interferon.
Avatar n tn I read somewhere that this is most likely due to high tyramine content in the beer. I also have this problem when drinking red wine and to a lesser degree white wine. I noticed that vodka does not affect me in this way and have read that it is low in tyramine. What other alcoholic beverages are low in tyramine? Is Cider low in tyramine?
Avatar n tn I have a teenage son who has runaway, and I am trying to understand the effects that drugs and alcohol will have with his blood sugars, and insulin etc....
Avatar m tn alcohol is not detected in urine.......drugs are.Alcohol content in blood is calibrated with a breathalyzer machine and depending on how long you drank for and within a certain time frame it can show up within a 24 hr.period.Alcohol is metabolized in the body in two ways-carbon dioxide......breathing it out of your system when it has gone thru the bloodstream and then the system flushes it in urination.
1549468 tn?1345468736 Sorry folks, but I really don'y drink and never have. But for some reason, after my first Grand-mal seizure in July 2010, every time they test my blood, it comes back with a high alcohol content. one time as high as .17. I don't cook with alcohol, use mouthwash, or any over the counter medications. my dr. said that my prescribed meds. would not cause this. Now, they put in my med records that I am a denied alcoholic. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Avatar f tn You certainly can drink and breastfeed as long as its a reasonable amount you are drinking (roughly one drink per hour). Firstly pump and dump is a waste of milk no matter how much you pump the.alcohol in your milk is Dependant on the alcohol in your blood and how quickly your body metabolizes it. Test strips are also a waste of money... Also just because you have a drink or two over the course of about an hour doesn't mean that your breast milk has the same alcohol content as your drinks.
Avatar f tn I say she is causing her baby harm because it is alcohol, regardless of the alcohol content. She also recently found out that her baby has Partial Trisomy 18? Even after finding this out, she continues to drink. Who is right? And what can I try to say to her to get her to change her ways for the sake of her unborn child.
Avatar m tn 20 November 2009 19 Nov 2009 Several studies have shown that lipid peroxidation stimulates collagen production in fibroblasts and hepatic stellate cells (HSC), and plays an important role in the development of liver fibrosis. Hepatoprotective effects of green tea against carbon tetrachloride, cholestasis and alcohol induced liver fibrosis were reported in many studies. However, the hepatoprotective effect of green tea in dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)-induced models has not been studied.
