Avatar n tn I have been diabetic since I was 5, I am 24 now. I had lead a very unhealthly life style, I eat alot of fast and unhealthy foods, but my portions are quite limted (I only eat when hungry really). Sometimes I go through a whole day by snacking countless times during the day, eating only 1 decent meal. I am not over-weight, but I have found myself to have a very fast motablosim. But I still eat very very unhealthy. Regardless: My question is... does alchohol really affect diabetics?
Avatar n tn A bartender I know says that drinking vodka is better than scotch or rum because of their sugar content. But I know that none of those liquors have any carbohydrates, so I'm confused. Can anyone help?
Avatar f tn t enough to effect your baby when you do drink because it does into your body and say your blood alcohol content is .08 which is the legal limit then the amount in your milk would only be a very small percentage of that. I would talk to a person who knows more though before making a decision...
1549468 tn?1345468736 Since then every time my blood work comes back with a high alcohol content, as high as .17. I do not drink, as I choose to break the "cycle" of a family of alcoholics no matter how hard. I do not use over-the-counter meds, or mouthwases, or cook with alcohol, as I stay away from all forms. Does anyone know what can be causing this? My drs. say it is not my meds.
Avatar f tn After passing the field sobriety test my blood was taken and had a content of .13. I do not believe this could be correct. My red blood cell count was 4.21- 10*12L my hemoglobin was 13.1g/dl. I wish I could post my panels on here.
Avatar n tn Haemochromatosis causes weakness, fatigue, and pain in the right hypochondrium near the liver. A high dietary intake of iron, alcohol intake, multiple blood transfusions and hemolytic anemia can lead to high iron levels. Serum iron levels fluctuate during the day so it is preferred that the test should be done fasting. Other tests like trnasferrin saturation and TIBC may be needed. Liver biopsy to measure iron content of liver tissue confirms the diagnosis. Seek the opinion of hepatologist.
Avatar n tn I read somewhere that this is most likely due to high tyramine content in the beer. I also have this problem when drinking red wine and to a lesser degree white wine. I noticed that vodka does not affect me in this way and have read that it is low in tyramine. What other alcoholic beverages are low in tyramine? Is Cider low in tyramine?
Avatar m tn alcohol is not detected in urine.......drugs are.Alcohol content in blood is calibrated with a breathalyzer machine and depending on how long you drank for and within a certain time frame it can show up within a 24 hr.period.Alcohol is metabolized in the body in two ways-carbon dioxide......breathing it out of your system when it has gone thru the bloodstream and then the system flushes it in urination.
1549468 tn?1345468736 Sorry folks, but I really don'y drink and never have. But for some reason, after my first Grand-mal seizure in July 2010, every time they test my blood, it comes back with a high alcohol content. one time as high as .17. I don't cook with alcohol, use mouthwash, or any over the counter medications. my dr. said that my prescribed meds. would not cause this. Now, they put in my med records that I am a denied alcoholic. Does anyone have any suggestions.
Avatar f tn You certainly can drink and breastfeed as long as its a reasonable amount you are drinking (roughly one drink per hour). Firstly pump and dump is a waste of milk no matter how much you pump the.alcohol in your milk is Dependant on the alcohol in your blood and how quickly your body metabolizes it. Test strips are also a waste of money... Also just because you have a drink or two over the course of about an hour doesn't mean that your breast milk has the same alcohol content as your drinks.
Avatar f tn I say she is causing her baby harm because it is alcohol, regardless of the alcohol content. She also recently found out that her baby has Partial Trisomy 18? Even after finding this out, she continues to drink. Who is right? And what can I try to say to her to get her to change her ways for the sake of her unborn child.
Avatar n tn Which vitamins are most depleted in one's body when drinking alcohol excessively?
Avatar f tn I was told not to pump and dump, its better to wait it out because the alcohol content in breast milk will be the same as in your blood, as youre blood alcohol levels decrease so will the amount in the breast milk and pumping and dumping will just be a waste. My dr told me that its better to just wait it out and to pump a little every now and then and use these test strips from walmart.

Avatar m tn People who drink large quantities of alcohol over a long period of time are generally at greatest risk of developing ALD. But remember, the alcoholic content differs among different kinds of alcoholic beverages. Therefore, the likelihood of developing ALD is affected by the alcohol content of the beverage ingested, not by the type of alcoholic beverage consumed http://www.liverdisease.com/alcohol_hepatitis.
Avatar f tn He said the stress of wanting it and not having it was way worse than what the alcohol content of one glass would do to the baby. He also recommended it to help me sleep and deal with anxiety and bh contractions. Honestly though, since he gave me "permission", I've only wanted it twice (I'm 27 weeks now), so I've only had 2 glasses.
Avatar f tn For instance if you add beer or wine to boiling liquid, then immediately remove it from the heat, 85 per cent of the alcohol content will remain. If you light the alcohol, as in flambé dishes, 75 per cent will remain. Even after simmering the dish for one and a half hours, it will still have 20 per cent of the original alcohol content.

Avatar m tn Not even with extremely high alcohol content drinks like everclear? It's 75% and and I drank half a bottle in an evening along with the vodka. And having not drunken anything for about a week mow I'm still having gastrointestinal discomfort and pains where my liver is. Maybe not liver failure, but with the high content alcohol maybe some sort of damage could have been incurred?

Avatar m tn For the same reason, oral sex rarely results in HIV even with swallowing HIV-infected semen. 3) The alcohol content in table wine is sufficient to kill HIV. 4) Your friend probably does not have HIV. But even if you know him to be infected, or if he is at high risk (e.g., has sex with other men, is an immigrant from Africa, etc), there remains no risk for the reasons above. So there is no risk to you or your dinner partners.
Avatar f tn I have just been diagnosed with dangerously high blood pressure. It was 220/120. I am taking Losartan HCTZ 25 mgs and just added is Amlodipine 25 mg. I have been taken medication since Aug 012 with little success. I am very stressed and just started with a counselor to help with with tramatic experiences that I have gone through as a child and stress as an adult. I have never used a salt shaker, I've never smoked or ever drank alcohol.
Avatar n tn I'm a newly recovering alcoholic (sober 92 days) and my blood sugar control is becoming unmanageable. I realize that I am craving sugar to replace alcohol, and I do give in some, but my sugars are outrageous. Even without eating sweets, I am finding days where I am in the 500s for no apparant reason. And it takes a lot of insulin to regulate.
Avatar n tn A breathalyzer measures the alcohol in your breath and then the reading is an estimate of your blood alcohol content. Having low RBC (from treatment drugs, for example) may raise the result. I'm not aware of liver disease itself causing any variation in readings. My RBCs are low and the last hemoglobin a1c I had done (I'm T1 diabetic) was 0.037 which I can tell you for sure, is EXTREMELY low. However, this measurement is an average of three months.
Avatar f tn Was wondering how 'safe' it is to drink extreme low alcohol content beer (0.5% ALC/VOL)...I am asking because l can't seem to find a low suger, thirst quenching summertime drink..all the fruit juices and fizzy drinks are loaded with suger. I saw this beer on the superrmarket shelves and had a look at the ingredients...<1.0g of suger per 100mls..only ingredients are barley, hops, yeast and water. I bought a bottle (very cheap) and it tasted surprisingly good.
