Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol and breath alcohol

alcohol

Avatar m tn I have PVCs and they are almost always associated with shortness of breath or "can't breath" for a second. I asked my cardiologist about it and he said not to worry, but it sure is a scary feeling. It is weird how my heart's electrical system is associated with breathing when I have PVCs. I am 40 years old, fit, but I drink 2-3 drinks a day... I know that's not good for you necessarily, but it is what it is. It actually helps me regulate stress and sleep good.
967168 tn?1477584489 still no info on why this recommendation on my cardiac cath and no alcohol; however I did find this - Limit alcohol intake.
Avatar f tn I'm craving a super dirty vodka martini
Avatar m tn Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a genetic disorder that causes a chaotic growth of heart muscle cells within the ventricles. The disordered, thickened (or hypertrophic) heart muscle can lead to problems pumping sufficient blood to the body’s organs (systole malfunction),... but your diagnosis is a diastole dysfunction and that refers to the fact that thickened ventricles have become stiff, making it more difficult for the ventricles to fill with blood due to a crowding out effect.
Avatar n tn I personally can drink beer but I am sure to check levels often, have snacks on hand (since alcohol does naturally lower your blood sugar) and I only take half my nighttime insulin as I was often waking up with very low sugars in the middle of the night. My advice is to take it easy. I'm sure for you and your friends it's exciting and fun but always keep in mind you are (in the best way hehe) different from your friends and a little more fragile.
Avatar m tn You say you enjoy the buzz, well what is going to happen when it takes more and more alcohol to get that buzz, this is how alcoholism sneaks up on you, before you realise what is happening you are addicted to that buzz and will drink whatever it takes to get those feelings. The longer you drink like this the harder it will be to stop, and believe me you are not doing your liver any favours either, drinking every night means your liver never has a chance to get rid of the toxins.
Avatar m tn So did they treat you for alcohol poisoning? What was your blood alcohol level?
Avatar f tn Congratulations on your choice to quit drinking, it won't be long until the smell of alcohol goes. After quitting myself for the last 13+ years I can tell you that I very early on hated the smell of alcohol, so you may be getting more sensitive to the smell since quitting...
Avatar n tn How much can he drink on a daily basis, I know if he has a alcohol limit he will stick to it because he is so short of breath that he is miserable being in AFib. Please advise, he is 82 and I have told him not to drink at all but he gets depressed because he can not do anything without being short of breath then he drinks.
Avatar n tn If I drank 2 bottles of white wine wednesday night and need to take a blood alcohol level test on friday will it be positive?
Avatar n tn The supervisor told one cop to give me a breath test which I flunked miserably (.21). They arrested me and took me to the station and gave me another breath test. This time it was .22. I am a GERD patient with Hiatal Hernia and Barretts esophogus. Do you know of any medical research on the subject. I have seen plenty articles but there are all written by lawyers.
Avatar m tn I've been getting really lightheaded after big meals, and it takes about 2 hours to normalize. Also i've been dizzy and short of breath for almost a month now. I had a stress test which was normal. I quite drinking 2 months ago. I drank heavy for 4 years. I'm afraid i caused nervous system damage. I feel week and fatigued and feel lightheaded alot. Can anyone related to this?
Avatar n tn Alcohol can affect blood pressure - it can also upset the digestive process and cause heart burn - which can make it feel like the heart is racing. If it's only after he has a few too many - tell him to drink less; masking the symptoms with medications won't help in the long run.
Avatar f tn I am concerned as to his long term prognosis with regard to the alcohol intake and what effect the alcohol will have with the medication. Does anybody have any experience with regard to alcohol and heart disease?
Avatar m tn I take my dog every day four a mile and a half walk around the block ( hilly terain ) and I am fine know shortness of breath, nothing,. once in a while I will have a few drinks and do the same walk and after the first hill i am short of breath. am fine after I rest a few seconds. Is this a concern, it has to have something to do with the alcohol. thanks for your help.
Avatar n tn A breathalyzer measures the alcohol in your breath and then the reading is an estimate of your blood alcohol content. Having low RBC (from treatment drugs, for example) may raise the result. I'm not aware of liver disease itself causing any variation in readings. My RBCs are low and the last hemoglobin a1c I had done (I'm T1 diabetic) was 0.037 which I can tell you for sure, is EXTREMELY low. However, this measurement is an average of three months.
Avatar f tn m wondering if there is any correlation between having a high blood alcohol content and high blood sugar, as high blood sugar turns into alcohol. Anyone know?
Avatar f tn The rash may be accompanied by low-grade headache, fever, nausea and fatigue and itching. Topical and oral steroids are needed. Water, sweat, and soap may cause irritation and should be avoided in the disease. Topical zinc oxide and calamine lotion are useful for pruritus. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
1289966 tn?1326101570 It isn't a great idea as alcohol can help the disease to progress, and if you are treating, alcohol is a definite don't. Hope this helps. I'm sure you'll get more feedback on this topic.
481269 tn?1208280771 It worked great for me loosing weight. But, I do have 2 friends that mixed alcohol and phentermine and it was NOT a pretty site. It can increase some of the side effects of phentermine. It makes you have the ability to drink a lot more than you are used to, and it actually made both of my friends crazy in behavior.
Avatar m tn I wont go into "random" testing. Alcohol is a toxin so your Liver stops all other functions (and there are dozens of them) to detoxify your Blood. Its the liver that removes Met. So detoxing the alcohol can cause the Met to build up in your system. You dont say how much Met you take. To be a problem you would have to drink for a Looooooong time as in alcoholic behavior where so the liver never has a chance to go back to its other functions.
Avatar f tn The combination of alcohol and lorazepam may result in depressed heart and breathing functions; therefore, lorazepam should not be administered to intoxicated patients. Alcoholism and depression are frequently associated, leading to a high potential for alcohol-antidepressant interactions. Alcohol increases the sedative effect of tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil and others), impairing mental skills required for driving.
Avatar n tn I went to rehab recently on Feb. 2nd and I had a bac of .275 and I was walking and awake and alert enough to go through the initial questionaire they put you through before they let you go upstairs to a unit. But granted I have a high tolerance from long term alcoholism, and I'm not saying this is okay or advocating alcoholism, but I had a physical on Jan. 17th and the results said that my renal and liver functions were normal,so I guess I'm just lucky.
Avatar f tn I am not too familiar with blood alcohol, but I would think that maybe you could have been dehydrated and that could have caused the reading. Try drinking more water next time.
