What would cause an onset of vaginal bleeding or spotting 16 years after hysterectomy? I am 41 yrs old.When I was 25 yrs. I had to have a more partial hysterectomy due to Endometriosis.I have one ovary left,but everything else is gone.
Then one period my life changed. For the next 20 years I had life-altering cramps and hemorrage type bleeding. Anaprox alleviated the cramps and I lived on it. I had many D&C and was told I had fibroids and I should have an hysterectomy. I refused. I have only been pregnant once and that end with an abortion in 1973 when I was 23.
If it has been almost 4 years since your hysterectomy, the cause of your bleeding is typically not due to the surgery. The best thing to do if you are afraid is to see your doctor for an exam. Bleeding several years after a hysterectomy can be due to granulation that grows at the site of suturing in the vaginal vault. It can also be due to growths in the vagina like polyps or cancer. Hence an examination with a gynaecologist and Pap smear are necessary to find out the cause of bleeding.

Had endo now nearly 20yrs after sevral removal laps dr has giving me the date for my hysterectomy as you ladies can imagine all sort going through my head but main one is I know no more bleeding as its so very bad but will or do any of you ladies have hormonies still bit confused would like it if one you wonderful ladies who had this and know could share your story with me as no women in my life at all so no really to talk to about this in my head I'm thinking all sorts thank you very much p
Any bleeding that happens after you have a total hysterectomy needs to be evaluated by your gynecologist. I think you should make an appointment ASAP and get in to see them. It could be anything and nobody here is qualified to tell you for sure what it is.
Don't believe it!!! I had a partial hysterectomy in May 2010 and I've been having a period every month since then. I'm so frustrated. Now the doctor is telling me that since I didn't have my cervix removed, this is the cause to those periods. He's trying to tell me that bleeding after a hysterectomy is "normal" I'm looiking for another doctor.

I healed well and felt good for awhile but for the last month I have been experiencing back pain and abdominal pain mostly on my left side. I bled for 6 months after my TVH (total vag. hysterectomy) everytime Dh and I had sex. Turns out I had ALOT of granulation tissue. I had to have silver nitrate treatments several times and the finally used some super numbing spray (I think they called it Hurricane spray) and clipped away a big piece of granulation tissue. That definately helped. Funny thing is, the last time I bled after sex I bled alot. But I haven't bled since and that was 1.5 yrs ago.
I have had a full hysterectomy many years ago. I have suffered from vaginal dryness so lubrication is the norm. This is the first time in 21 years that I have ever had any bleeding. I wouldn’t be concerned if I were overly dry, the sex was rough or it lasted longer than usual. However, it was actual very quick and not aggressive or painful at all. Having said that, Im wondering what could be the cause. Any thoughts?

I had a complete hysterectomy (both ovaries removed) 5 years ago. Have not had a problem until recently.
Have had slight spotting in the past year. Went to a urologist and he had me get a ct scan of the abdomin and pelvis and then did the scope of the bladder. All results were fine. I recently discovered that this is spotting from the vaginal area and not urinary. Have an appt in 2 days with my genecologist. I had breast caner in 2005 and a lumpectomy and radiation.

I was unaware that I needed to have pap tests and did not have any after my hysterectomy. The other day I started bleeding and got scared and went to my doctors. She did 2 pap tests and while performing it she said " Oh ya I see the cause of your bleeding you are bleeding from your vaginal wall there is a lesion that is there and actively bleeding."
Of course I am scared to death waiting for the results.
She said thats not going to fix the problem you need a hysterectomy. 13 years of heavy bleeding and severe pain on left side and dermrod and 2 other kinds of cyst removed.
