can my girlfriend get a bladder infection after we had unprotected sex while i'm on the pegasys/ ribaviron treament. was curious if that was another reason they wanted us to use condoms and the pill too. wasn't sure if my semen can cause an infection or not, this is twice it has happend since i started treament a month and a half ago.
The being late with your period has nothing to do with the bladder infection. I would get a pregnancy test to check. Best to get it done as early as possible. Did you have a tubal ligation? Did they say it was impossible to get pregnant? Perhaps there is something else going on. You should do the pregnancy test anyway to check then see your doctor either way.
I have a bladder infection, I think. So I called my Dr and told him what was going on. He prescribed Septra generic DS. It made me so sick that I called him back and asked what to do and he said it would be alright to take a half pill twice a day instead of a whole one. This is the second time I've had a bladder infection in two months. The first time was when I was in the hospital. No catheter was used. They sent me home with a script for Septra and it cleared up with in 5 days.
Home treatment only works at the very first sign of the infection but once you have thick discharge and irritation only meds will help. Metrodonizole is safe for the baby.
About a month later I started to have significant irritation with my prostate, increased frequency, and signs of bladder infection. Dr prescribed cipro 500 mg 2X daily for 10 days, based on previous prostaititis. Symptoms eased a little, but still had frequency issues, slight discomfort in pubic area, irritated meatus. Through this whole period, I have had ZERO discharge (no discharge for my wife either). My wife has had some bladder discomfort, and increased urinary frequency.
If it is somehow possible to see your doctor during your period, empty your bladder, and then ask for a bladder scan immediately after, this will show if there is retention. A bladder scan is just a hand held device which when held against the skin shows the quantity of residual urine in the bladder. This should be well under 100mls for optimum health. If your are retaining, you may need to self catheterize which means you empty your bladder manually.
The other thing I would probably test for is a bladder infection. One thing to try--Ibuprofen or Aleve taken around the clock can reduce both pain and bleeding. If you were my patient, I would probably try that to get you through this cycle, and then wait to see if it happened again.

Sounds like a UTI. Verrrry common during pregnancy because of the extra weight on the bladder your body cannot always properly empty the bladder, leading to infection. I'd call...no reason to suffer. Until you call though cranberry juice has been known to help with UTI issues...wouldn't recommend anything OCT though.

About 3 weeks later, I had almost pneumonia like symptoms, and felt like I was having a bad bladder infection. At no time have I had discharge, just prostate irritation, and an occasional tickle in my urethra (and occasional inflamation of the meatus)
I was treated with cipro after initial breakout, and the throat and bladder were not much better. I have had std tests for chlam,gonn, syph, HSV1/2, and hep - all negative.

Just wondering if anyone if anone on the board has had a kidney infection, kidney stone, bladder, or urinary tract infection while pregnant. I have had around 10 stones and I am 29 years old.
