Common Questions and Answers about Biting nails nail bed

Avatar f tn I probably had a moderate problem (bit my nails where they were always halfway down the nail bed but def more than a sliver of nail left). All I did was paint my nails with a nail strengthening clear coat EVERYDAY. Even if the polish was still there I'd reapply. This way I never got to the actual nail. I would bite/pick at the polish but not the nail til the nail got long and strong enough.
Avatar f tn I really have a problem with nail biting and REALLY REALLY REALLY want to stop anybody else have this problem or has conquered this?
564710 tn?1217719711 Okay, so I wasn't sure where to post this so.. And I saw one past that was here and I figured this wasas good a place as any. So, I'm 14 years old and my parents yell at me any time I start biting my nails. I've been biting them all my life. But when I bring up the fact that they can buy me things on the market to help control my bad habit, they refuse and say I need to use my will power. Only problem is I'm not a very willful girl.
Avatar f tn You Should get some nail envy. . It's a strengthing clear nail polish that helps nails not break. I Used it when I had gels forever and my nails were so thin and breaking off and it helped lots!

Avatar n tn i am 21 years old and have been biting my nails practically all my life...About 3 months ago(1 month before i started college again...).i had gel nails put on for 1 month(every 2 weeks costed me R600+-).then they were growing so nice for 1 month and what do you know ? start biting them again at the moment both my index fingers are horribly chewed.i dont know what the possible cause may be? i havent been to a doctor to see whether i suffer from depression or something???
Avatar n tn Interestingly, when I was pregnant I stopped biting my nails. However, when I was no longer pregnant I began again. The nails come in stronger during pregnancy and I think hormones are involved in this somehow. I also find that if I cut out caffiene the biting can lessen a lot. Too bad I love coffee. I find that if I get a ragged edge on my nail, I am completely unable to combat biting and of course that just makes it worse.
Avatar f tn ve been getting my nails done with acrylics and gels for numerous years but now have what appears to be an infection in many of my nails and they are separaed from the nail bed. Nothing I've tried seems to work. Should I have the nails cut down? See a dermatologist? Kindly advise.
Avatar f tn Not only the white part, but the whole nail! Both of the pink and white part of my nails grow upwards.... Idk what to do, is it because I used to be a nail biter? I used to have really small nails cause I used to bite them a lot, but stopped biting them 5 years ago! The pink part has grown a lot since last year but it is growing upwards! It is really annoying and I have already low self esteem and this makes things even worse! Please tell me what to do, I really need help!
Avatar f tn I remember being in kindergarten and learning about how it was unsanitary to bite your nails and feeling ashamed. I also remember my mom putting bitter nail polish on my nails to try to keep me from biting them because I was biting them every day. I was doing it at the earliest point I can remember.
Avatar f tn I was cutting my cat's nails, and I saw that his nail bed was black. This is the case for half of his claws on his front, left paw and for most of his nails on his rear, left paw. Is it an infection and should I take him to the vet? Is it serious? He is 8 years old now and I'm really worried.
Avatar f tn I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.
Avatar f tn That means you can no longer go into nail or hair salons anymore too. I have a habit of biting my nails so I used to get the acrylics put on to keep me from doing that. Had to let them fall off because the fumes are so strong. Hair salons are worse if they've been dying hair all day.
Avatar f tn You can get worms from biting your nails. All the bacteria underneath them.....
Avatar f tn I bite them CONSTANTLY and have tried everything to quit. (Fake nails, bad tasting nail solution, gloves, bandaids, nail polish... You name it) On top of that, I also pick the skin of my lips, bite the inside of my mouth, crack my fingers and toes and more! I was reading online that constant nail biting and such bad habits could be classified as OCD. However, I do not want to jump to conclusions, so I wanted to know your input based on my description of the situation! Thanks!
Avatar f tn I've bitten my fingernails my whole life since i was a little girl until they bleed and hurt and i pick at my skin as well. It's awful. Nail polish and stuff to paint on nails specifically to stop biting didn't help... Nothing helped until i started seeing a psychiatrist who prescribed me OCD drugs, but i was already well into my 20s so I'm not sure what a pediatrician can prescribe... But ask your doc about obsessive compulsive disorder.
Avatar f tn I have a horrible habit of biting my nails, and I ended up having tiny pieces of nail circulating in my mouth. At the same time, I started getting a pain between two of my teeth. Therefore, I thought I'd gotten a piece of nail stuck, and attempted to remove it with floss and even thin cotton. After no show from a piece of nail, I started to see blood on the floss and cotton, and stopped, fearing further injury. The only other possibility was that I'd cut myself between my teeth slightly.
436973 tn?1217947089 Hi!! It's been a long time!! Glad you haven't forgotten us! =) Gosh, I hope your cat is okay now! Did she fall from a tree? Poor kitty! Anyway, I think that if you don't cut her nails they'll just grow super long and sharp as he!! I honestly think that you'd be alright trimming her nails a little bit. I have hardwood floors, too and I love them!!! When my cats nails grow, I can hear the nails clicking on the floor when they walk.
Avatar f tn ve been chewing my nails for years and finally managed to stop, but it has now occured to me that in front of my thumb nails, the skin in front of them is too high up. My nail is starting to grow into this skin. Is there anyway to fix this. I tried clipping the skin down so it wasn't so tall but it is very painful because skin is perfectly live and health, not dead or dry at all.
Avatar f tn Not sure why biting one's nails would "damage" them. It can annoy onlookers, but all you're doing is cutting your nails with your teeth instead of a tool. How wide the pink is I'm guessing is more dependent on who you are than anything else. Health and length of nails is dependent on your diet. I bit my nails for years as well, and when I stopped, they just grow now and I have to take the time to cut them. I preferred biting them, frankly.
