Interestingly, when I was pregnant I stopped biting my nails. However, when I was no longer pregnant I began again. The nails come in stronger during pregnancy and I think hormones are involved in this somehow. I also find that if I cut out caffiene the biting can lessen a lot.
Too bad I love coffee.
I find that if I get a ragged edge on my nail, I am completely unable to combat biting and of course that just makes it worse.
Is it bad or dangerous to eat your finger nails during pregnancy????? It's a bad habit I've always had. I'm only 17 weeks. Help.!
I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.
I'm a 14 yr old girl with a great life most of the time, not much drama and i do well at school with stress only during the really big tests so i dont understand why i bite my nails and do so till they bleed. i am 21 years old and have been biting my nails practically all my life...About 3 months ago(1 month before i started college again...).i had gel nails put on for 1 month(every 2 weeks costed me R600+-).then they were growing so nice for 1 month and what do you know ? start biting them again at the moment both my index fingers are horribly chewed.i dont know what the possible cause may be? i havent been to a doctor to see whether i suffer from depression or something???

My nails are chewed down past my fingertips. My ring fingernails are shortest, at about an eight of an inch long. The skin where my nails used to be is scarred and ugly. Despite the intense pain and bleeding, I can't stop biting my nails. When I can't get a grip on the nail with my teeth, I find myself picking at them with a knife, nail clippers, pencil, or whatever's on hand.
I've tried nail polish.
I have never had nails. I cant peel an orange or pick up a quarter, biting is something I've always done. Whenever I see white it just has to go! ill bite my toes even. Whenever I had a professional job interview or college interview, my dad would always tell me "Make sure you sit on your hands!" even as hard as I would try I would always somehow subconsciously find my hand in my mouth.

My son age 15 year got squeezing in chest heart side & pain like some one biting with nails & squeezing . it happen in month 5 to 6 time . during his child hood he was having brochaties. I am worried what this please advise. how to proceed .
Ever since I was little I have been biting my nails. When I finally stopped doing that I began to pick at the skin around my fingers and bite the inside of my mouth. I cant seem to ever relax. When I try not to pick at my fingers I get a really anxious feeling as if Im about to jump out of my skin. Even just sitting in school or watching tv I am not able to sit still and relax. What is wrong with me? Why cant I relax?
ever since i was little ive biten my nails. in the past year ive gone from biting them when im nervous or bored to hacking at the nail and the skin around them with nail clippers and even scaples. whats wrong with me. i often cant stop until it hurts and there bleeding... what could this be caused by?
Not sure why biting one's nails would "damage" them. It can annoy onlookers, but all you're doing is cutting your nails with your teeth instead of a tool. How wide the pink is I'm guessing is more dependent on who you are than anything else. Health and length of nails is dependent on your diet. I bit my nails for years as well, and when I stopped, they just grow now and I have to take the time to cut them. I preferred biting them, frankly.
At hand i have 2 cuts near nails from my bad habit ( biting my fingers and took the skin near nails sometimes). The cuts were not deep , not bleeding at that moment i think were created by me 2 hours before sex..i think that condom had fluids on it and i touched with my finger which had a cut . Is this a reason to worry or to act in some case ?
Drink plenty of water and get lots and lots of exercise. To quit biting your nails, get that kid stuff that tastes awful and put them on your fingers, plus make a concentrated effort not to do that. Instead, you can get into puzzles, like Soduku, it helps to release that pent-up energy in a similar way as chewing on your nails, it's a tiny goofing thing and much more adult.

I'm sure he's not biting - I've never seen him bite his nails (he's 8.5 yrs. old), his nails are even and have no bite/tear ridges, and his toes don't grow either, and he's not flexible enough to get to all his toes. I've asked him if he bites or picks at them and he says no. So def. no biting, they simply don't grow. It's weird.
