Avatar m tn I'm 21 years old man.I have a strange habit of biting my fingernails and playing with them in my mouth and finally i used to bite them to pieces and chew them. I have been doing these for years. I'm weighing 52 kg. Many say that 52 is very less for my age. I haven't seen any improvement in my weight for 5 years. Is my underweight is due to chewing fingernails. I used to skip breakfast for nearly 8 years.
Avatar f tn Not sure where this question fits in - I have an 8 year old whose fingernails and toenails don't grow. I think I've had to cut them maybe three times his whole life. Everything else grows normally - his hair, his body (he's tall for his age)...Not sure if this is something to worry about. Thanks for any input.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar m tn I have a bad habit of chewing on the sides of my fingers around my fingernails, and now it has produced the gross monsters I call my hands. Each finger on my right hand (and two fingers on my left hand) have these moderate sized calluses that have been present for two or three years of picking at them with knives, chewing them, and abusing them in general. Now, I file them down to be smooth and pink'ish color. They also are tender to pressing...

1941185 tn?1323871800 Hi, just wondering how easy would it be to get a Herpes infection from a handshake where the person was just biting his fingernails, had this bad experience yesterday where I went to purchase some things at a store, I knew one of the clerks and noticed he was biting his nails, as soon as he sees me he smiles at me and stretches his hand for a handshake, I automatically react to this and reach out as its the polite thing to do, then it hit me, he had saliva in his hands and it was wet...
Avatar n tn The same thing happened to my daughter tonight. I called the doc and she asked if my daughter bites her fingernails. I said yes, so she said to check her for worms. She said kids get the eggs under their fingernails when they play outside, and if they put their hands in their mouths...two weeks later you get worms. Sure enough, a tiny, white/clear colored worm was right down there by her anus.
Avatar m tn t think I would visit one ever again. I had a few lap dances and this is why I am concerned. I have a habit of biting my fingernails and one day before visiting the strip club I had bitten one of my fingernails quite deeply - it bled a little, you could see some redness after the nail was bitten and it hurt. A few hours before visiting the strip club I also had two small cuts on one of my fingers.

1345088 tn?1276382527 When i woke up in morning I realized that it could have caused an HIV infection because he may be having blood on fingernails from nail-biting . I do not know the the other guy and i have absolutely no idea about his HIV status. But I am too worried about getting an infection like this. What do you think, is it possible to get HIV like this ?
Avatar m tn Second, even if she did have HIV, condom protected sex is safe sex and HIV is not spread though biting in the context of sex or scratching with fingernails. As for your concerns that the condom did not work, do not worry. when condoms fail, they break wide open- they do not leak a little. From a medical perspective, there is no reason to worry and not even a reason to test. There is no logical reason to consider PEP. Please do not worry.
Avatar m tn Probably my fingers when contact with blood in his rectum! My fingers and no obvious bleeding wounds or phenomenon, but was biting my nails is very short, I don't know if I have the risk even though some people say that refers to the risk free, but I'm not in contact with the blood rectum airtight environment? Ask you to help me to answer, I was going to be crazy, thank you for understanding my mood!
Avatar m tn ZERO. The only risk you had was getting a crappy taste in your mouth from biting your fingernails.
Avatar f tn Are you saying you bite your cheeks like someone bites their fingernails, or are you saying you bite your cheeks accidentally? You say you do it when they get itchy -- do you notice when this happens there are already sores on them? Just wondering if this is canker sores, which are often caused by ingredients in synthetic toothpastes, or you're just doing this for no reason at all.
Avatar f tn My daughter used to do that (picking at her face, biting fingers etc) and upon lengthy investigation we discovered that she has Aspergers syndrome, we now have strategies in place to help her cope with situations and stimuli that are too much for her to cope with. This is not to say that what you and your daughter are experiencing is exactly the same but to illustrate that things can be done to help our little ones when they can't articulate what's going on. Good luck with everything.
Avatar n tn biting is very normal for toddlers. i assume he's a toddler. they do not have the vocabulary or ability to express themselves. they feel frustration and don't know how to express it appropriately. the teachers need to be proactive. chances are they have dealt with a "biter" before because it is very common. you anticipate when the child will bite and help them learn appropriate ways to handle the situation.
Avatar f tn I got nervous because I am always biting my fingernails til they bleed and thought I may had had a relatively fresh one (as in same day) around one of the nails. Part of my brain said no risk and other questioned just how sure I was that I had not come in contact with some secretions. Anyway, I went ahead and got rapid oral test at 27 days and was negative. Was after this I learned about incidence of false positives.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had fingernails split down middle? What does 9,430,000 iu - 6.
997730 tn?1254278376 I know that while I was on TX that I was very concerned about some of the side effects becoming permanent, or not going away for months and months. I had foggy brain, aches and pains, skin problems, ringing in my ears, fatigue, loss of sleep, loss of appetite (that one was a good one though, in my case), depression (had to take anti-depressants), irritability, among others. Well, I'm happy to report that 1 month post TX, most of my side effects have diminished.

About 3 weeks later I got an cold sore on my mouth but I’ve been getting cold sores all my life so I didn’t think anything of it. Then about 2 weeks later I started to google symptoms of HIV & I started to get them. The symptoms were, 1. Night sweats 2. Mild Sore throat/ fever 3. Muscle aches 4. Diarrhea 5. Rash’s. But I never got flu like symptoms.

Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
