I impulsively bite my nails. Once i start, i cannot stop. If i have nailpolish on, i still bite them.... I also pick at my cuticles. This is bad. I usually pick both untill the bleed, or untill it hurts me to touch the tips of my fingers. I want pretty nails, and need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do the same thing mon. I don't ever bite my nails, but I bite the cuticles. I have tried to stop a countless number of times. I came to the conclusion after analyzing what reward the habit gave me (since our brain probably does things to its benefits) that its a security habit. The pain given keeps my mind occupied, and provides comfort (much like kids who carry around a blanket with them all the time). The only real way to stop is to be conscious of what you're doing.

Does most pregnant women bite their nails... I use to bite my nails when i was around 6 or 7 years old. No w that im 6 weeks pregnant, i started biting them again. I just dont understand why all of a sudden?

You yourself can clip her nails or you can bite them off. It's easiest to do when she is sleeping or feeding.

I had a bad habit of biting my nails to but when i became pregnant they were way to thick to bite and hurt my teeth when i bite them, so now they have a chance to grow lol

Just one side of my thumb is now swollen, warm to the touche, and hurts to even move it. My arm and my hand is starting to hurt as well. What is the problem?

I remember being in kindergarten and learning about how it was unsanitary to bite your nails and feeling ashamed. I also remember my mom putting bitter nail polish on my nails to try to keep me from biting them because I was biting them every day. I was doing it at the earliest point I can remember.

ll just chew my fingers instead-terribly attractive! i think some cats just bite their nails as maintenance-Bob only does the back ones. my cats are 100% indoor and we don't clip their nails-is Oreo (great name!!) in indoor cat as well and does he only bite the back ones? Do you clip them for him? I'm not a pro, probably Jade or Opus can address the stress issue better than I-I don't want to give you wrong info and can only go by personal experience. I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.

I'm sure he's not biting - I've never seen him bite his nails (he's 8.5 yrs. old), his nails are even and have no bite/tear ridges, and his toes don't grow either, and he's not flexible enough to get to all his toes. I've asked him if he bites or picks at them and he says no. So def. no biting, they simply don't grow. It's weird.

I do it because of stress or boredom, just like when people grab a cigarette. Its just a habit, one you could break if you want, and if you dont, thats cool too, so long as your not biting so often that your tearing your fingers to shreds.
