Avatar f tn I probably had a moderate problem (bit my nails where they were always halfway down the nail bed but def more than a sliver of nail left). All I did was paint my nails with a nail strengthening clear coat EVERYDAY. Even if the polish was still there I'd reapply. This way I never got to the actual nail. I would bite/pick at the polish but not the nail til the nail got long and strong enough.
Avatar f tn My mom tried everything the horrible tasting nail polish the chili on fingers and still I managed to bite my way through lol. Thankfully my prenantals helped out sooo much! Arylic nails never did any good because my nails came out horrible looking and thin. I noticed the only thing that kept me from biting them was painting them..

Avatar f tn ve been getting my nails done with acrylics and gels for numerous years but now have what appears to be an infection in many of my nails and they are separaed from the nail bed. Nothing I've tried seems to work. Should I have the nails cut down? See a dermatologist? Kindly advise.
Avatar f tn I suggest you contact your doctor and if he is not available to see you, go to the ER. Blue nails is a sign of low oxygen in the blood and several things can cause this not just lung problems. Regardless it is dangerous to leave it unattended, even at your age. keep us posted as to what you find out.
Avatar m tn Personally a lot of bad things have happened in my past and every time I am bored and daydream ie while watching tele or driving or in class etc i will bite and bite until my feelings are once again suppressed. The fingers which i mainly bite are my thumbs. I personally going to find a solution and then come back on here and let you all know. If anyone tells me that i clearly dont want to stop biting my nails thats why i havent already....
Avatar f tn I remember being in kindergarten and learning about how it was unsanitary to bite your nails and feeling ashamed. I also remember my mom putting bitter nail polish on my nails to try to keep me from biting them because I was biting them every day. I was doing it at the earliest point I can remember.
Avatar f tn I was cutting my cat's nails, and I saw that his nail bed was black. This is the case for half of his claws on his front, left paw and for most of his nails on his rear, left paw. Is it an infection and should I take him to the vet? Is it serious? He is 8 years old now and I'm really worried.
Avatar m tn get someone to hold her gently but firmly, and VERY still, in a good light, and you must be able to see what you are doing properly. If you're not good at seeing small things close up wear reading glasses. I use human large toenail nail clippers for my dog, but you can buy special clippers for dogs.
Avatar f tn Hello, One possibility for your symptoms can be Terry’s nails in which the nails turn white with ground glass appearance. The other possibilities are iron deficiency anemia, hepatic failure, cirrhosis, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure and hyperthyroidism. If the nail is crumbling then a fungal nail infection caused by onychomycosis needs to be ruled out.
Avatar n tn I use to bite my nails untill I started to get what I guess was puss pocket under my nails and I stopped biting my nails but contineud to bite around my finger nails. Avatar f tn I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your reply! I'm sure he's not biting - I've never seen him bite his nails (he's 8.5 yrs. old), his nails are even and have no bite/tear ridges, and his toes don't grow either, and he's not flexible enough to get to all his toes. I've asked him if he bites or picks at them and he says no. So def. no biting, they simply don't grow. It's weird.
