The doctor may have other reasons concomitant to a heart issue...you should ask! The best method for determining the best hospitals and medical is from a health professional in your country. You could contact the Cleveland Clinic by email for more information and may be they could help you.
Avatar n tn what would be surgery risk for re-operation for avr replacement for a healthy 62 year old, with no major (liver, kidney, lung) disease in which a Bentall procedure was done in the first operation done 8 years earlier? also, what would the complications risks be for each related, possible complication?
Avatar m tn I had a heart bypass op 11 days ago. Instead of laying on my back to sleep I have been mainly lying on either side and was wondering if this is detrimental as I should be on my back more than sides? There are no more than the usual pains associated with the operation I guess by doing this but am I being a little premature sleeping in these positions if so should I revert to sleeping mainly on my back?

Our quandary is, should we chance the operation, as he still has fevers from the MRSA, goes up and down. Would he be able to sustain an operation of this magnitude. Avatar f tn The study is indicated to investigate the cause, location of origin, and best treatment for various abnormal heart rhythms. This type of study is performed by a specialist (an electrophysiologist) and is performed using a single or multiple catheters situated within the heart through a vein or artery. It may have a 70% success rate for a diagnosis. For some insight and it is not as serious as you may have misunderstood if it SVT: Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT).

Avatar f tn Floating aroung the board and this thread caught my attention... I had no idea what was happening, I was still flying high on morphine and just said "yes" to what ever was asked of me. It was well after the fact that I found out I was put on a machine and by then it didn't bother me. Since heart surgery is so overly common, I wouldn't worry about it.

He knows he will have to change into a hospital gown. He is wondering if they will examine him first, want to see him naked etc. Any help for my worried mate would be appreciated. Thanks.

Avatar m tn Having a past detachment increases your risk greatly of having another one in either eye. Intraocular surgery like cataract surgery also increases your risk in that eye. Have a "heart to heart" with your surgeon about the risks. If you need the cataract op to see, do it. I have done many such cases and have rarely had a problem. Also, have the retina checked. If there are any suspicious areas which may result in a hole, you might have them lasered in advance of the surgery.
Avatar n tn I do not know what the policies are at different hospitals in different countries, but it seems unlikely that anyone other than doctors and nurses are in the recovery area with patients. The recovery area is where the medical professionals watch and wait for you to awaken, then when they are confident you are coming out of anesthesia properly, they take you to your room. After that you can be visited by friends and family. Trust me, you will not be alone in recovery.
Avatar m tn My dad had surgery yesterday for aortic valve replacement and 1 coronary artery bypass. Surgery lasted between 5 and six hours and afterwards NO ONE came out to speak with the family. By phone we were told the procedure was over and the surgeon was on his way but he never showed up in the waiting room. After one hour we tracked my dad down in the ICU, and were told the surgeon left the hospital and a resident would fill us in with details.
Avatar n tn she is now 9 months and the cardiologist and surgeons in Sydney, Australia have decided to do the double witch operation? I am still concerned whether this is the best treatment option? According to them its the best option to prevent heart failure in the long run. She is asymptamatic and has no other issues other than the ventricles being switched. any medical advice on this.
Avatar f tn Many individuals following open heart surgery have a memory problem for about 6 months post operation. Open heart surgery puts the individual on heart and lung machine so the fibrosis is probably not an issue during the operation. The main problem with the heart is the valve orifice and that can be corrected without open heart surgery (sometimes). The aorta regurgitation can be the cause of shortness of breath as well as the pulmonary issue. What is the operation expectation.
Avatar n tn I was informed 4 years ago that my lab nissan operation has fail and I have a tear in my stomach...I was told it is dangerous to do this operation again. Since then I have lost insurance and eat a small amount and feel full and very uncomforable. At times I get servere pain and reflux and it causes my throat to close up and I have a hard time breathing. I have no money or insurance and my mother died of stomach cancer and i am very worried. Is the full feeling and pain a warning sign?
Avatar n tn He was subsequently diagnosed with colonised MRSA after having a nasal swob. Firstly he was told that the operation would still be carried out with antibiotic cover then his surgeon said that it would be too risky to operate as if the MRSA got in to his bloodstream he would be very poorly. He is currently in Hospital in isolation, using nasal antibiotics and daily medicated showers. Nursing staff and visitors are gowning up and wearing gloves.

Avatar f tn I've had heart palpitations for 10 months, they started right after a hiatus hernia operation. I get them everyday. I get them at different times, while watching tv or just relaxing in bed, doing normal everyday things. I had blood work done and was told I was low on B12 and was told to take 1000 mcg of a supplement daily. While taking it the palpitations got stronger so I stopped taking it and they eased up.
Avatar n tn In my understanding after operation he can consider about one year as a healing time. I did not have operation, but was recovering from my heart failure. 1 YEAR I needed to feel well and no pain or very occasional pain. He must be sure NOT lifting heavy things. When I had lift or was letting stress in my life, all turned out of some sort of pain. Those are the 2 mayor things he should watch for. Change all stress for love,(easier to say, but must try :)) and …do the heavy lifting for him!!
