Avatar f tn Low carb / ketogenic diet combined with metformin can be a great help in managing diabetes. How is your Hba1c? Normal is ideally close to 5.0, but at least try to get lower than 6.0. If your hba1c is high then there can be many complications. Thus getting your blood sugar to normal levels should be first priority. Telmisaran is a drug for high blood pressure. is your BP high? Losing weight and exercise (again low carb / keto diet), may help with this.

Lastly, didn't your doctor provide you with a home glucose test meter? You will need to test b4 each meal and 2-3 hours after each meal. This will tell you how the foods you consumed affected your glucose levels.
Avatar f tn Lyrica has been known to put weight on women -- it's one of the side effects. Lowering the dose will lose the effectiveness. Switching to an antiseizure med may help but may not. There are a few available. Lyrica is effective, as you've proven. I feel it is more important to treat your pain, and to find other means to keep the weight off, then live in pain and 'float like a butterfly.' That's my opinion, but I deal with pain.

Support him by cooking him healthy meals and eating them with him. Remove the temptations and avoid things that can spike his sugar levels. Not all of us eat ourselves into a diabetic frenzy. If he hates to exercise, even the smallest amount like a 30 min walk a day makes a big difference. I hate being a diabetic.

Avatar f tn In a way, this condition ends up in a vicious circle, because in summer you should have the best chances to treat it because of the open footwear but being so ashamed of it you sometimes try to hide it (which is actualy much worse). I will surely will keep you posted on the progress.

Yes, losing all that extra weight is crucial to controlling your diabetes. But crash dieting is not healthy for anyone and in the case of a diabetic can be dangerous.

Avatar f tn I agree, take care of the cancer first, let your cancer docs know you have hepc, but it shouldn't make any difference in treatment. The hepc treatment can wait. Do treat the diabetes asap also, if you have that under control it will help you recover better from the other two. Good luck!

I had fasting labs done a few months ago because of hypothyroid. My blood glucose at that time was 102mg/dl. Is that high enough for a diagnosis of diabetes? I already have another appointment for fasting labs next month. I thought I would get a jump start on changing my eating habits but I can't figure out what I can eat.
