1415174 tn?1453243103 Hi and thanks for your reply. It seems like more people are telling me that they are getting hypothyroid in middleage or near menopause. Are you on thyroid meds now? As for the antihistamine, I'm not on it for allergies it is to lessen the number of migraines. I am taking a generic med called cyproheptadine that my neurologist gave me. It lowers serotonin. I have been skin tested for a lot of allergies and they all came up negative except the mold came up later.
Avatar m tn As a side note we did find mold growing behind the walls in our bedroom. Anyway the following year we moved to Florida and about two months after moving I was diagnosed with COPD. I was a smoker for about 20 years and quit, but after quitting I started having a constant need to clear my throat and it feels like I am clearing from deep in my liungs not my actual throat or at least that is the way it feels. This has been going on now for 2 years and I have again been to Dr. after Dr. after Dr.
Avatar f tn There are many natural antihistamines. They're not guaranteed to work, and they might work sometimes and not others, but when you combine them you can see improvement. Freeze dried nettle root is the only form that really works as an antihistamine. Chinese skullcap, or scutellaria, is a good antihistamine. Quercitin doesn't really work well by itself, but does when combined with bromelain and Vitamin C. There are many formulas with this combination at your local health food store.
Avatar m tn It would be cheaper to test for mold at home than go for allergy tests unless you look at mold allergy only. Also only those susceptible to mold can catch the symptoms and others not. Yes, it can also be the detergent and if you leave the windows open and air the room well, with time its effect will go. Take care!
428185 tn?1203741789 Hi back - I think I'm allergic to dust/pollen/mold. Tried antihistamines and they work but screw up urination - having prostate cancer surgery soon so that may fix the antihistamine problem, but they also kind of sedate me, which I don't like, and make my private parts shrivel up. Decongestants rattle me and raise my BP.
Avatar m tn For 4-5 years now, I've been having dry, unproductive coughs that last from September all the way to March. Due to the timing of the coughs, I came to the conclusion that it's an allergy of some sort. I've been to doctors and they would all tell me different things and prescribe cough medicine and give me inhalers. They never worked. All I really did was wait until March until it naturally ended.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it

Avatar m tn mold allergy of 1313 for the IgE levels in my blood....the regular max range is up to 170....I am on flonase and an antihistamine and a yeast mold powder for my stomach......the burning still comes and goes and feels more permanent now.....will the burning and swelling go down through time from an undiagnosed mold allergy? I wonder if there are still trigeminal nerve damage from this? If it was left undiagnosed for so long...what do you think? Mold allergies usually happen in late summer....
Avatar f tn The antihistamine I take is Reactine, I cannot tolerate many either, but this one seems to work for me and it doesn't make my symptoms worse. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that gets affected by weather changes but too bad we do go through this!
Avatar m tn If you are living in a hot and humid climate check for mold in your house and work environment. Often mold spores are the culprit. Yes, moving to a Mediterranean island may help if the allergens are not found in that area. If you benefit by going there for a month, then definitely there is something in your area that’s not suiting you—pollen, spores, animal dander etc are common causes. Consult an allergy specialist. Take care!
Avatar f tn See a pulmonologist and explain exactly what happened. He could test you for different types of mold to determine which if any is affecting you. There are so many different types of lung diseases (histoplasmosis, valley fever, etc. ) that can cause lung problems.
Avatar f tn Then I had noticed there were mold spores on the shelves in the bathroom by the millions and with a lot more research I now had an explanation for ALL of the symptoms including my irritability. Yes, the mold spores can wreak havoc on the central nervous system and cause the unpleasant sensation of stinging and crawling on skin. Seach 'How Mold affects the body' on YouTube if the following link doesnt appear. This is your brain on MOLD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?
Avatar m tn what are the best antihistamines (dust allergy) for somone with an enlarged prostate?
Avatar f tn The liquid gels worked great as a boost to my normal antihistamine for the itching. They were very portable and still and liquid for faster effectiveness. See a dr.
Avatar m tn They worked the best for me! Takes a few months. See my post for allergy shots. Meds were so so, but the shots did wonders. You sound like me just before my allergies got really bad. The shots should prevent it from at least getting worst. The first month or so probably will get worst with shots. I wish I had started them sooner. Your levels definitely indicate an allergic reaction. Anything over 40 can cause breathing problems my doctor told me.
Avatar f tn Since then I have avoided taking any antihistmaines except for Benadryl. I did take an occasional Claritin but it seems like every time I did anything I break out more. My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl.
Avatar n tn Your Vet will have the best choices for congestion relief.....You don't state how old your pug is, but the excess fluids can related to many other diseases/ailments.....For example: If you use an antihistamine thinking it's an allergy when indeed it's really a heart problem, the antihistamine can make the heart worse, so you must get a diagnoses before you treat..... Licking air is usually Nausea or acid reflux....Post nasal drip normally causes a cough...
