Avatar f tn Hi there. I was just diagnosed with hep c about a month ago. Thank god my husband and kids are negative. I'm thinking that I contracted it about 12 to 15 years ago, when I was a IV drug user (been clen for about 11 years). Anyway I don't know what stage I am, go to see the specialist on 9/01. But I have this rash...little red bumps that were on my right arm. Went to my doc and he gave me a cream.
521646 tn?1212064069 Sounds like he also has PCT. I had this disorder and was given a series of phlebotomies prior to treatment for HCV. Your friend is in denial regarding his alcohol problem. If he would recognize at all he has a drinking problem then he would have to come to terms with the affects it is having on the liver as well. Very sad because smart people just don't respond with answers like "I didn't get told the results of my biopsy". I don't believe that for one minute.
Avatar m tn My husband has had hep c for over 6 years and we have been together for 10 years. he has never started medication. we are trying to get somesort of low income medical insurance in colorado and it is just difficult for us. he has a body rash that wont let him relax. he scratches so much that he cant sleep. i dont know if this is in relation to hep c but, i really need to find out if this is linked to it. please help.
Avatar n tn Thanks for replying. Steroids is the worst thing for the PCT and they kept giving me that in the emergency room with all the misdiagnosis. Im waiting to get to a liver special but right now in limbo only treating the PCT with blood draws.
Avatar f tn Sun exposure and alchohol cause the condition to become worse as well. The best form of treatment for PCT is phlebotomy (blood letting - 500 cc per session) I had a total of 13 prior to starting tx in March. My ferritin level started out at 783 and was reduced to 17 which is a good thing for those of us with hepc. Cholorquine is not the best solution because it can cause the iron levels to drop too quickly and you can become severely anemic. Blood levels must be checked frequently as well.
Avatar m tn Hi all, been worrying about this lately although i forgot about it and it caused me no issues till late. 7 months ago I recklessly used testosterone ethanate in higher doses thinking it was trt-dose, it was actually a cycle. good job i got in contact with folks on reddit who told me about this! i pct'ed off with natural maca pct and the like only thing i could get my hands on.
Avatar f tn hey guys i was about to start treatment but ive put it off for a month due to personal reasons, about a month ago i got my hep a and b shot first one and since then ive had a ras on my chest that has spead to my arms and back it is so itchy ive also started antidepressants and i was just wondering has anyone heard of lichen planus?
Avatar m tn PCT is difficult to treat while the patient is also being treated for hepatitis C with interferon and ribavirin. Therefore, PCT is generally treated first in cases where the two diseases occur together. Patients with marked iron overload should be treated by phlebotomy rather than hydroxychloroquine. PCT is often more severe and difficult to treat in patients with end-stage renal disease.
Avatar f tn I had similar experiences with the incivek tx(48 wks) everything except the pct (se below) this was my 3rd go around with interferon, I definitely am not the same 1.5 yrs post,I am svr ,I don't regret doing as I waited 10 yrs for something new but with the new tx's around the corner I do not recommend the risks. The fact that you cleared one disease and picked up another is an example of the toxicities these drugs have, they screw up the immune system and some never achieve balance again.
799705 tn?1238115168 If you have PCT your ferritin level is high and phlebotomy reduces the ferritin and is the recommended treatment for controlling PCT regardless if you plan on treating the HCV anytime soon or not. It's very important you get the PCT under control. I did three months of phlebotomy treatment prior to starting tx and have been treating almost a year and the PCT has not returned.
Avatar n tn This type of treatment is one of the appropriate hormone (anti-estrogen) treatments of estrogen receptive breast cancer in post-menopausal women.
Avatar m tn Great advise Bill. That was my thoughts also. Baddog, has her ferritin been checked recently if it needs checked along with iron. My blisters just kept filling up with clear liquid, and they hurt and they did get worse. Hers sounds infected. Her damaged liver cannot process the porphyrins so they come out through the skin. Has she been in the sun recently? The sun brings it out (wish I knew that then) If that is your problem it can be brought under control.
1225178 tn?1318980604 If HCV infection is found, it may not change the treatment of PCT (by phlebotomy or low-dose chloroquine). Treatment for PCT is highly successful even in patients with HCV. Therefore, it is reasonable to treat the PCT first and then look into treatment for HCV later. There are reasons not to treat the HCV infection before treating the PCT. HCV treatment with alpha-interferon and ribavirin is available but is often not effective.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am not Trin but I also have / had PCT. There are specific tests to diagnose PCT which my dermatologist did. AS far as myself and Trin the manifestations were large liquid filled blisters that made a mess nof our hands. The blisters were like a burn that filled with a clear liquid. In my case it did not start with a rash but only the blisters. The blisters hurt so bad, almost to the bone hurt. Trin will chime in here I am sure of that and she is better able to put into words tham me.

Avatar m tn Thanks to everyone for their greetings and input. This forum is great. I've never been much of a forum or blog guy but once this started, I knew that I wasn't alone after finding this community. Many times things get lost in translation even with the ones you love and are closest to. It is good to know that there are folks just like me facing such a huge challenge. To answer some of the questions and concerns. I do not have Hemo. You are right, my dermatologist is the best.
Avatar f tn Should I get treated for the estrogen or should they level out once my thyroid is fixed? I am taking natural supplements for my adrenals and might want to try HC but I have heard not so good stories about it. Are there natural adrenal meds or how should I go abouts treating it? I finally feel abit better but I don't want to move cause moving equals hot flashes/sweating.
Avatar f tn Well, the whole endocrine system is interrelated. However, with the elevated antibodies, this is definitely a thyroid disease. You might start shopping for a new doctor who treats more by symptoms. Because of the antibodies, I would consider this a separate issue. I'd see an endo and ask some questions before making an appointment, like if he has experience and expertise in dealing with both thyroid and estrogen issues together.
Avatar f tn The researchers surmise that estrogen may have a protective benefit for younger women with HCV. They recommend the use of estrogen replacement therapy for menopausal women. Another interesting discovery appeared in this study. In general, viral loads dropped with age except in the group of post-menopausal women. There was no explanation for this. The second study examined similar issues.
3184673 tn?1347154895 The treatment of PCT involves dietary restriction of foods rich in iron, and avoidance of alcohol and estrogen use. Phlebotomy to remove iron is the first treatment for most patients with PCT. In patients with PCT, we recommend iron depletion by phlebotomy before initiating antiviral therapy with interferon and ribavirin." http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hcsp/articles/Bonkovsky-2.html We do have at least one member with PCT and Hemochromatosis. Hopefully she will respond as well.
Avatar m tn ve been going through menopause for about 15 years, still get hot flashes....will the anti-estrogen therapy get rid of them, or make them worse?
6680297 tn?1384290508 From your earlier post it did not say if you actually had the PCT confirmed with a 24 hour urine quarantine. I have PCT and had separate labs for that as well as to check for hemo. If this is the case the standard is to treat the PCT first usually with phlebotomies. Jules has posted a good link. Probably need step back, ask questions, and definitely see a liver specialist. My tx didn't start that quickly after the PCT dx. Seems awfully rushed.
