Common Questions and Answers about Benicar hct medicine

benicar

1260320 tn?1270394906 I'm on Benicar HCT, have been for many years. Benicar is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!
Avatar m tn I am going in for gallbladder removal in 4 days and no one has told me to stop taking Benicar HCT beforehand. I'm on a 20/12.5 dose once daily, so it's pretty low, but won't it possibly cause problems with the anaesthesia/barbituates or if they have to give me morphine afterwards (not likely, but possible)?
Avatar n tn My dr put me on Benicar 20mg and Toprol XL 25mg to lower my blood pressure. I have a fast pulse too (always over 100). Will these meds lower my pulse also?
Avatar n tn m 43 and my pressure generally ran around 185 over 120 (range). My doctor put me on a medicine called Micardis HCT which is a combination medication with the common diuretic hydrochlorothiazide and the drug telmisartan. This is the first time I have been on blood pressure medicine, and the drug has worked very well in terms of my blood pressure itself. I take my pressure at home with an electric blood pressure monitor and I now average about 130 over 72 to 75.
Avatar n tn Stopped taking Dyazide a few days ago, headache eased the next day, and was gone by the 2nd day without meds. She started taking Benicar HCT a over a year ago. From the start she felt rotten every day. Said she felt like she had to "make my legs" walk - always felt tired. Also had soreness in between her shoulder blades. Dr. said it was muscle soreness from exercise. She stopped taking Benicar HCT a month ago and felt great the following day.
Avatar f tn The chest pain has returned and the diastolic pressure is 53.I am currently on benicar hct 40/25 and my bp has been 126/53. Should I stop taking the benicar? Not sure what to make of the chest pain.I am a 48 yr. old female other wise in good health.
Avatar m tn pressure was a little high 150/90 so increased bp medicine to benicar 40mgs with hct of 12.5. pressure came down to 115/75 - thought it was reaction to medicine - stopped it for a week - and symptoms stayed. thought it was stress - started exercising 30 minutes a day - running - some help but symptoms come back - at times when look down get dizzy or lie in bed. have been playing alot of golf and swinging differently - but no back pain - some neck stiffness from new swing.
478554 tn?1208034407 You are correct, Benicar is an expensive drug, I am on 40 mg per day with 12.5 of HCT (Benicar HCT). Since there is no generic, my insurance also tries to block it's use, but they have to give it to you if your doctor provides the additional documentation, but it won't help the price. TGL's are easy to control, usually cutting back on empty carbs like those found in breads, pastas, sugars and processed foods will have a huge impact.
Avatar f tn I've been on Benicar HCT 40/12.5 for 3 years, it's the only BP med I've been on and it has worked wonders with no side effects. My BP is down to 110/70 from 150/90 and as I said, I have had absolutely no side effects to date. For me, it's a great med, but maybe not for you. There are many to choose from, just keep working with your doctor to find the one that works best for your situation.
159619 tn?1707018272 Just curious, I was started on Benicar HCT 40/12.5 about 3 or 4 years ago at a time when I was at my peak weight, well over 300 pounds, not taking very good care of myself and not exercising. My blood pressure was running around 140/85 at the time. I underwent some cardiac work ups due to some chest pain over that time period including a couple of Nuclear Stress Tests and Echos along with all the blood work that is usually done, all tests were always normal.
Avatar f tn Although I am not cynical when it comes to the medical profession, I know there are drugs of preference from doctor to doctor. I was on Benicar HCT for 4 years before moving and finding a new doctor. One of the first things he did was pull me off Benicar and put me on Lisinopril, a beta blocker. I had a terrible reaction to this drug, I couldn't workout and my heart rate stayed at 50 - 55 BPM.
Avatar m tn Teh meds I am taking is Benicar HCT 20mg, take them daily. I am the nervous type, and think I am starting to suffer from anxiety, because during a stressful period I developed skin burning sensation in my upper back that still to this day I feel sometimes. Hope this info helps you a bit more.
Avatar m tn I've recently been having terrible anxiety and one of the changes in my life is that I've started taking Benicar 40mg for high blood pressure. I saw on a post somewhere that benicar can cause this. Has anyone else heard of this?
Avatar n tn Cardiobill, Thank you! I appreciate you responding to my post. You have definately answered some dire questions that I have been agonizing over. I do have another question about getting a second opinion. My doctor showed me the images from the CT scan and I could clearly see the aorta was larger then the other one. Would a second opinion be a waste of time? Thanks again.
Avatar n tn I am on Benicar HCT for my blood pressure and my doctor has told me to take it twice a day on occasion. If you are concerned or feeling light headed or weak you should call you doctor's after hours service to see if they have any input. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I have being training for several running races for 5 months. Before going into a preparation for a half marathon training, I went to the cardiologist to do a check up, as I know my BP always was borderline to be considered high. I did Echo, Stress tests and 24h BP measurements. Echo and stress went all right, but BP was slightly high, my mean systolic pressure was 133 and mean diastolic was 83, with the maximum during the test being 148 an 100.
Avatar f tn My ef is 35% and I take coreg 3.125 mg 2 x a day, benicar 10 mg daily, hct 25 mg daily and lexapro 20 mg daily.
Avatar n tn My mother had a triple bypass June 23rd and was sick (vomiting) for a month until I figured out the Amiodorone medicine they had her on was making her sick. I asked the surgeon and he took her off the Amiodorone around July 20th, so she was on the medicine approximately 1 month. I understand Amiodorone has a long life span and it can take up to 6 months for the body to eliminate it from it's system. My mother vomits every 1 1/2 weeks on average.
Avatar f tn However I did have numerous incidents of bronchitis over the years. I do take HTN meds (cardizem and Benicar HCT) My last pulmonologist visit (Sept 5th) he wanted to try discontinuing the Benicar even know it’s not an ACE inhibitor. That was 48 hrs ago. I am hoping he stumbled onto a needle in the haystack and the coughing will subside or at least be more controlled. How does one get further evaluated for asthma? Are there specialists outside the New England area you are aware of?
Avatar m tn The prescription would be Benicar HCT as opposed to just Benicar. If you are on the HCT type then you are also on a water pill that may be affecting things. If you are becoming too dehydrated from a water pill it could be contributing to the erratic beats. If so would firstly say try and drink plenty of water. Being on a water pill means we need to be mindful of taking in water so we don't dehydrate.
