My question - are there any other alternative drugs or treatments, other than estrogen, to help with the side effects of stopping the Prempro. Thank you for taking my question and for any help.

I am age 66. At age 50 my GYN put me on Prempro. I had no symptoms of menopause. He said that it will happen and I can prevent the discomfort of it by starting estrogen therapy. He was right, I have never had any of the things people talk about. What I am wondering, would I maybe not even had the symptoms anyway? I have been on it for 16 years now. My GYN has now prescribed a low dose, but how do I know if I even need it? I am basically healthy.

I heartily requested I be able to go on Prempro to my GYN. He had me do the standard hormone therapy first, then allowed the Prempro. I was on it for over ten years and I felt it was very positive for my MS not to have periods! Then came the big Prempro crash and controversy. Have a serious discussion with your Oncologist and weigh the benefits against the side effects and risks. You may not have much of a problem at all but you would have to try them to know this for sure. Kindest regards ....

I am not certain that I want to continue with this course of treatment. My question is, how dangerous is prempro when I have a family history of ovarian cancer? My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in her mid 60's and had surgery along with chemo and radiation - she is now cancer free. Should this be a major concern for me if I continue to take the Prempro? Also, are ovarian cysts related to ovarian cancer?

Recently the doctor changed my Prempro dosage from .45/1.5 mg per day to double that amount. Do you think the change in Prempro could change my thyroid levels? Should I request new thyroid blood tests or wait for my annual testing which comes up in 6 months?
