Avatar f tn My question - are there any other alternative drugs or treatments, other than estrogen, to help with the side effects of stopping the Prempro. Thank you for taking my question and for any help.
Avatar n tn I am age 66. At age 50 my GYN put me on Prempro. I had no symptoms of menopause. He said that it will happen and I can prevent the discomfort of it by starting estrogen therapy. He was right, I have never had any of the things people talk about. What I am wondering, would I maybe not even had the symptoms anyway? I have been on it for 16 years now. My GYN has now prescribed a low dose, but how do I know if I even need it? I am basically healthy.
Avatar f tn Hot flashes and osteopenia (pre-osteoporosis). Awaiting biopsy results for microcalcifications around or in ducts. Can prempro increase risk of BC, in particular, DCIS?
237053 tn?1258828426 I heartily requested I be able to go on Prempro to my GYN. He had me do the standard hormone therapy first, then allowed the Prempro. I was on it for over ten years and I felt it was very positive for my MS not to have periods! Then came the big Prempro crash and controversy. I stayed on it anyway for several more years without insidence then the pedulum swung back and some people have resumed its use again.
Avatar f tn Have a serious discussion with your Oncologist and weigh the benefits against the side effects and risks. You may not have much of a problem at all but you would have to try them to know this for sure. Kindest regards ....
Avatar f tn I am not certain that I want to continue with this course of treatment. My question is, how dangerous is prempro when I have a family history of ovarian cancer? My mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in her mid 60's and had surgery along with chemo and radiation - she is now cancer free. Should this be a major concern for me if I continue to take the Prempro? Also, are ovarian cysts related to ovarian cancer?
Avatar f tn Recently the doctor changed my Prempro dosage from .45/1.5 mg per day to double that amount. Do you think the change in Prempro could change my thyroid levels? Should I request new thyroid blood tests or wait for my annual testing which comes up in 6 months?
Avatar f tn what percentage of increased range of motion in arthritic/painful joints does your average patient have?
Avatar m tn ve tried different methods to dealing with them from biofeedback to exposure therapy, but have had very little progress. I am very against taking medications as I've heard about so many awful things that come with psychiatric medications. I'm not able to function normally right now, and I'm pretty sure that having Panic attacks on a daily basis can't possibly be good for your body. So I'm thinking about giving just giving it a try.
Avatar n tn i am 55 and i had been on birth control pills for 25 years to keep my periods regular now i went to a different Dr she told me i would not start menopause while i was taking the birth control pills so she put me on angeliq a hormone pill i started taking them and after 2 months my periods and after not having 1 for 6 months i started my period again which lasted almost a month i went back to Dr and she wants to put me on prempro i don't know if i should take the prempro or start taking my bi
Avatar f tn ENDOMETRIAL CANCER, CARDIOVASCULAR DISORDERS AND PROBABLE DEMENTIA FOR ESTROGEN- ALONE THERAPY ENDOMETRIAL CANCER There is an increased risk of endometrial cancer in a woman with a uterus who uses unopposed estrogens. Adding a progestin to estrogen therapy has been shown to reduce the risk of endometrial hyperplasia, which may be a precursor to endometrial cancer.
Avatar f tn It seems more common to prescribe birth control pills than hormone replacement (Prempro) during perimenopause. And a course of progestin seems to be more commonly prescribed to stop prolonged and/or heavy bleeding.
Avatar n tn I thought the jury was out once again on whether Prempro (HRT) actually does increase the risk of breast cancer beause the study is believed by some to be flawed. The study was composed of mostly older women, who are at a higher risk. Also, I thought over the counter natural hormone remedies are not regulated by the FDA, thus they dont know if linked to breast cancer. This information might become outdated as I am writing this.
Avatar n tn My maternal grandmother died with breast cancer. I have a history of seizure disorder and on Dilantin. After 2 days of taking Prempro I decided not for me. I think I need Progesterone and would like to know if others use the cream and what brand. Or any advice appreciated. Thank- you.
Avatar f tn I am 57 years old, and my question is, would the new Vertex telaprivir therapy be worth my while. Most of the time I feel ok, but I often wonder if I would feel better if I was able to get rid of the virus.
Avatar f tn 40 is a little young to start Menopause, but not unheard of, it can happen. I started @ 49, for 1 year, I would bleed for 7 weeks, then it stop, started, did that for a year. I have not had a period for 2 yrs now. I started gaining weight a little weight in my mid section, I also got very depressed. I'm not a depressed type, always happy, not moody. I had to go on Prempro, it took 2 weeks, I was better.
Avatar n tn The most recent studies are showing continued benefits of low LDL in reducing atherosclerosis formation as well as reversal of plaque build up after 18 months of having a LDL less than 70. There are may be other reasons why patients can develop cardiovascular disease. The fractionated lipid panel may help understand what type of LDL particles you have. The bigger particle sizes of LDL are associated with less build up than smaller LDL.
Avatar f tn I am 54 yrs. of age and have been period free for 8 yrs. Within the last year and a half I have been seeking treatment for horrible burning inside and out of the vaginal area. My doctor has done many tests and has said that I have vaginal atrophy (sp) and told me to use replens. She also recommended Prempro as I still have a uterus. I no longer have health insurance and can't afford the prempro and the replens DOESN"T work.
Avatar n tn It could be the prempro. Ask your doctor about going off of it for a few month and see if that helps. I heard that estrogen can cause congestion along with other medications. I too have non allergic rhinitis but mine is considered Vasomotor rhinitis.k I had this for 6 yrs. but I do not take any medication, just nasal steroid sprays and nasal rinses and it does not do anything. I even had sinus surgery - total ethmoidectomy, opening the ostia of the maxillary sinuses and partial turbinectomy.
Avatar f tn Hi RainSpirit, I recommend you check into bioidentical hormone pellets. These are small pellets of either estrogen or testosterone that get placed under the skin of your hip by a doctor that specializes in them. They don't have the highs and lows of creams, patches and pills. They bypass the liver when metabolized. I've had them 4 years and have never been happier. I started getting them every three months, now I go about every 4-5 months.
Avatar f tn I recently had a mammogram which showed findings of a cyst. I needed additional views, so I returned three days later for a second mammogram of the left breast only, and it showed a nodule. I had an ultrasound the same day which showed an 8 mm benign cyst and several other subcentimeter benign cysts, some with low internal echoes (what are internal echoes?) I've been on Prempro over 10 years and understand this could be the cause of the benign cysts.

1154462 tn?1327434379 I have bipolar disorder I and am considering talking to my psychiatrist about Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment. this is because I feel that the current combination of anticonvulsants and antipsychotics I'm on isn't working and honestly I'm tired of the rapid cycling. I have read about the success rate of this treatment and how it's the most effective treatment for manic depression. Would you recommend having this discussion? Currently I am on 300 mg Lamictal, 0.
Avatar n tn I am not aware of any side-effects of this supplement. Certainly, if you think that there is a temporal relationship between your starting the hoodia and poor blood pressure control you should you could probably assume that the two are somehow related.
Avatar f tn Interpersonal Social Rhythm Therapy is the only therapy that has been shown to have some benefits in terms of reducing number of hypomanic or manic episodes.
Avatar m tn HI, just was wondering about an increase dosage of Lexapro. I started at 10 mg and my doctor increased it to 20 mg. I've been taking it for 2 1/2 weeks and have noticed an improvement over the 10 mg. I've been having more good days then bad which is great. Will it take 4 to 6 weeks to receive the full benefit from the Lexapro from the increased dosage? Thanks for the help.
