Avatar n tn No connection between the smell of cigarettes and SIDS that I know of. However there is a definite connection between smoking around your baby and SIDS. Also, if you are a smoker, the dust from the cigarette smoke will rest in your furniture and can cause SIDS. THis is because the dust will be breathed into the lungs and rest there.

Please let me know if you or anyone you know have regained their sense of smell and taste when it has been lost for a year or more ? I need a little hope !!!
Avatar f tn One cup a day is fine. Before I got pregnant I used to drink like 6-8 cups of coffee a day, one morning I woke up and it knocked me sick, couldn't stand the taste or smell. Now I haven't had a cup since November lol - you might go off it.

755829 tn?1246919225 It depends on the method of decafination. Some methods of producing decaf coffee use extremely toxic solvents known to be neurological toxins, as well as being carcinogenic. This was the case until the mid 1990's when a new non-toxic processing system was introduced. You want decaf coffee that is processed with the harmless super-critical carbon dioxide process.
755829 tn?1246919225 I recommend cutting out all coffee. But if you must drink coffee then yes, I would say that decaff is better than regular coffee. Decaff contains little to no caffeine while regular coffee contains high amounts of caffeine. Caffeine can cause MANY problems. I would name them all but it would take me a very long time. Look at this website for further information on caffeine and the side effects it has. Some you have probably already had and didn't even notice.

Avatar f tn I was just wondering if any of you have had/or heard of someone suddenly being incredibly sensitive to the smell(s) of tobacco?? I swear it's as though I'm smelling the very chemicals themselves!! It has aggravated my nose and upper palate. It is sickly sweet and is becoming more and more over-powering. F.Y.I., I am not pregnant - although that never made me hate tobacco before. I have never had an experience to this extent - except for an anxiety attack once ...

Avatar n tn I craved coffee in a bad bad way with my first pregnancy. I was drinking up to 6-9 cups a day, until my mum found out and told me off!! From then on I was limited to 3 cups a day.... I drank it all the way through my pregnancy and had a healthy baby boy (he is now 6). Yet with this pregnancy I love the smell of coffee, but can't stand the taste of it! Just check the recommended intake of coffee for pregnant women, but I am pretty sure one cup a day should be all good.

Avatar f tn For instance, studies evaluating the effect of green tea – popularly considered a “healthier” source of caffeine – have not shown the benefits associated with filtered, caffeinated coffee. This lack of benefit appears to be true for sources of caffeine other than green tea as well. Lastly, coffee should ideally be prepared by filtration because filtering removes cafestol and kahweol, two substances found in coffee that may increase serum cholesterol.
