For instance, studies evaluating the effect of green tea – popularly considered a “healthier” source of caffeine – have not shown the benefits associated with filtered, caffeinated coffee. This lack of benefit appears to be true for sources of caffeine other than green tea as well. Lastly, coffee should ideally be prepared by filtration because filtering removes cafestol and kahweol, two substances found in coffee that may increase serum cholesterol. So, What Do We Tell Our Patients?
There are reports that people who drink 4cups of coffee have less fibrosis. Than there are those that say because of the roasting it has carcinogens. Than again it is a stimulant and might make liver work harder. I like my organic peruvian light roast in the morning and an espresso or 2 in the afternoon as a pick me up.
I just started taking Yaz and have noticed a 10 lb weight gain in 3 weeks time. I know that some of this could be from Thanksgiving, but not all of it because I haven't eaten any more than usual. I don't eat much at all, so I'm thinking most of it is the Yaz. I was previously on Yasmin and was able to lose 45 lbs while on it. I don't think it will do this to everyone, but this is just my experience with it so far. I think I'm gonna go back to the doc and switch back to Yasmin. Good luck!
Four cups of coffee a day prevented a study group of derelict alcoholics from developing Cirrhosis. They were in a clinical trial of hard core alcoholics with and without coffee. http://www.news-medical.net/news/2006/06/12/18412.
Compared with lifetime abstainers of coffee, those participants drinking 1 cup of coffee per day had an adjusted odds ratio of 0.47 for cirrhosis, whereas drinking at least 4 cups of coffee per day reduced the odds ratio for cirrhosis to 0.16. Cirrhosis is associated with an increased risk for HCC, and previous research has suggested that coffee consumption can also reduce the risk for incident HCC. The current meta-analysis provides a summary of this research.
The researchers found that women were the real beneficiaries of coffee consumption. The patients had as much as a 25 percent lower risk of death from heart disease compared to non-coffee drinkers, and an 18 percent lower rate of death from causes other than heart disease or cancer. Curiously, the men in the study showed no significant change in their risk factor. And for all you true coffee drinkers out there who are wondering … we're talking about REGULAR coffee here, NOT decaffeinated.
The news follows a growing number of reports touting the potential health benefits of drinking coffee. It also comes at an appropriate time: Coffee consumption is on the rise in the United States and over half of Americans drink it everyday, according to the National Coffee Association. Antioxidants in general have been linked to a number of potential health benefits, including protection against heart disease and cancer.

What no one wants to talk about but those of us with cancer surely think about… I have always been a planner. When I began recurring, I panicked but once we had a treatment plan, I was fine. Also, I’ve had good times and I’ve had bad times, and I know you don’t always get warnings about the bad times. Things can change so fast.
Ever since then its been an ongoing struggle. I feel as if i have no control of my life, and im constantly thinking of my breathing. I feel hopeless and feel as if no one understands what im going through or that i have this disease that doctors cant detect. My doctor has put me on xanax for anxiety and it seemed to cut the edge off a lil but its still there. Its not as bad as when i first got it but it still disrupts my life.
My diet consists of a couple of cups of coffee a day, no soda, minimal breakfast, usually left-overs for lunch and a healthy dinner, no vitamins, a couple of glasses of wine at night in front of the TV. I just had a check up and there are no red flags in blood pressure, heart beat, EKG, weight. Waiting back on the blood work. Sounds like a waste of time for MRIs, etc. I guess I will at least start taking vitamins, reduce the coffee and exercise more.
It has been said to me a number of times over the past two years that many of the things I say are suspiciously…well…Democratic in view point. I’ve argued and fought with those who expressed this evaluation of what I say. I point out that just because I’m an advent follower of Jeffersonian Policy (Separation of Church and State, a strong Constitution that represents ALL Americans)… this doesn’t make me a Liberal Democrat! But lately I’ve begun to wonder.

It's important to think carefully about what we put in out body, especially when dealing with a chronic disease. 3 cups of coffee a day maybe okay if you don't have high blood pressure, 10 cups of coffee a day probably not good for anyone. Just jumping on the antifibrotic band wagon blindly is not a wise idea.

And Like Nancy in my crazy red shoulder padded double breasted BLAZER, I JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS!!! ... and now I'll rest, try and let some of the bad energy of the pain and this last week go so I can work all weekend and next week too. One day at a time. I was pretty sure last night when I got home and was so tired and disoriented that today might be like this. It is worth it.No matter what. Getting off this stuff will save me a HUGE amount of pain in the future. I liked waking up happy!
They don't want to hear that your sobriety actually requires time and effort AFTER you go thru the detox. Well, that's one of the reasons I am posting today. I want people to know that all of THIS, day one, day three, day twelve, will all be repeated again without a good plan for what you will do after you are clean. That is a FACT! So don't get annoyed when someone says to you "what are your plans for after-care?
I have an agency which is supposed to be the coordination of benefits but no one ever seems to want to take responsibility! Now I am paying 2 premiums and getting less benifits with much more paperwork, phone calls and emails. :( I am going to stick with Gilenya which is covered 100% by Novartis and luckily working great for me. I hope things work out for you and others in the same dilemma. Pleas keep us posted on how things are progressing.
I buy an ounce of each [2 ozs of licorice and milk this] and sprinkle on food, or put in tea or coffee, a total of about a 1/3 of a cup per day. Yesterday, before i got my tooth pulled, i was informed my blood pressure was high. Could be the licorice?
