Avatar n tn Both subject medications is recommended for heart failure patients ACE raises blood pressure by constricting blood vessels. ACE inhibitors like enalapril prevent this effect. Enalapril has been shown to lower the death rate in systolic heart failure as does Lisinopril. It is difficult to distinquish what medicaation is better than another without knowing what other medications ae taken, any side effects, etc.
Avatar f tn She switched her from Enalapril to Benazepril, and continued the Lasix. Have been back a couple of times, and I keep asking if there's anything that can help her breathe better. She does not cough yet, but breathing is relatively rapid, and sometimes with some effort. Not panting, or open mouthed, just rapid and heavier than a normal dog. I know that the enlarged heart will affect her breathing, but I just wonder if there isn't some other med that might help ease that.
Avatar n tn In addition, there are all these other supplements and symptomatic relief providers that you should start, if you havent already, including carnitine, CoQ10, enalapril/benazepril etc... Malnutrition is a worry, but I would advice you to tacle everything else we can so that her appetite improves, rather than feeding her anything that increases the burden on the kidneys. Feed her as much of starchy stuff- rice, sweet potatoes etc...as possible...
Avatar n tn I have been on Enalapril 5mg twice a day for over a year now... and since March 2011 I have been experiencing skipped beats as well and have been experiencing a lot of chest discomfort and pain.. I have been to the cardiologist several times for this and everything has checked out all right.. I am planning on seeing my doctor sometime within the next couple of weeks to see if he can figure out what is going on...
996946 tn?1503249112 My vet recently put our dog, Barney on Enalapril for treatment of having had a history of heartworms. He is 11 yrs old and was diagnosed by another vet with heartworms at age 8 or 9 and we were told to keep him on a monthly dose of Heartguard, which we have done. The heartworms are gone but Barney, over the last few months has developed a hacking cough. The vet put him on Enalapril about 2 mo. ago. It has not seemed to help....does this mean his heart is failing and if so, what can we do?
Avatar m tn While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril. What can I sustitute it with?
Avatar f tn He was started on Enalapril 2.5 mg twice a day. He was taken off it in August becasue he had feeling that his heart was slowing down,, felt dizzy and short of breath. Since he has been off the medication he has been feeling better. He does complain of feeling a little tired and Short of breath.
Avatar f tn If the blood pressure is abnormally high, medication to treat it is important. Ideally, this should be either Benazepril or Enalapril. Diet restriction of sodium and phosphorous is also important. At stage 3, there is also some advantage to minimizing protein to some degree (about 15% of total food intake daily). Nausea is very common (due to the toxins in the blood and stomach), so anti-nausea medication is advised. Cerenia is a good one.
1842659 tn?1318763960 They both have been on Salix (Lasix) and Enalapril. Would it be okay to switch them to Vetmedin? How does it work differently from Enalapril? I hear Vetmedin is a better med.
Avatar n tn I was on benazapril for hbp for quite a while, developed a slight dry scratchy cough my doctor described as benazepril cough. He changed me to valsartan last week and thats where the real fun began :-( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril.
Avatar f tn It really depends on why your vet put her on Benazepril? Is it for diagnosed high blood pressure - or is it to help the kidneys function better through increased blood flow? Benazepril is a good drug for either, but if it is merely to help the kidneys (in other words, if your dog does not already have high blood pressure), then extreme caution is needed.
1466631 tn?1286340024 My beloved 14-year-old Jack Russell was diagnosed with congestive heart failure last week. I hadn't noticed anything unusual about her behavior recently except for a very mild, occasional cough. Then, suddenly, last Wednesday, she refused to eat and had very low energy. On Thursday, after being examined by the vet, I was told she has congestive heart failure. The vet put her on 12.5 mg. of Lasix and 2.5 mg. of Enalapril twice a day.
Avatar m tn tony thanks for your response the benazepril is to treat the hypertension and to reduce protein loss through the kidneys the amlodipine also for hypertension and control her plood pressure which was elevated the plavix is to reduce the chance of blood clots i also give her fish oil and give her chopped green cabbage with meals , i have started to wake up and give her a meal at 2;00 am and seems to have stopped the vomiting of bile . when karly was diagnosed in oct of 2015 she weighed 9.
Avatar n tn The same doctor prescribe Enalapril Maleate and Metformin? Treatment with both enalapril and metformin may result in a serious condition that may cause extreme weakness and heavy breathing. Call your doctor and let him/her know of your side effects.
Avatar m tn Two years ago I had a Retriever that had Lymphoma Cancer. Near the end of her life, the Vet put her on larger doses of Prednisone as well as put her on Enalapril to control heaving "heaving" episodes she had every time she got up from laying down, etc. These worked for a while but she eventually had to be Euthanized due to the severity of her Cancer and how far it spread. My other dog is now ill.
Avatar n tn im 70 year old man with ed----i am on 40mg 0f enalapril can i safely take cialis???
Avatar n tn I am 75. I take 75 mg of atenolol and 40 mg of benazepril hcl every day. I had an echo stress test (speed increases every two minutes) and at 6 minutes my blood pressure starting falling so the test was stopped and the doctor said sometimes with blood pressure medicine that happens. He said my heart was fine. I had a by-pass 12 years ago. So do I have to worry?
Avatar f tn His cardiologist sent his echo to the board of surgeons who thought it would be best to do a repair of this valve but then decided to put him on enalapril for 6 month and then do another echo to see if the enalapril is helping. Is it likely that these changes will continue to increase or will the enalapril keep his heart functioning well enough that he will not need surgery?
Avatar n tn Until late August my BP was generally140/75 but since then it is higher and despite 2 months of titration ( enalapril in several dosages) and adding 2mg Cardura to twice daily enalapril and 50 mg Toprol XL, it just fluctuates wildly during the day, and day to day, seemingly without regard to enalapril dosages being doubled, tripled, quadrupled or reduced.
Avatar f tn Hi My son is 9 years old and we saw the cardiologist in April 2010 for a 6 month follow-up. He was on Enalapril 2.5 mg bid but was taken off of it after complaining of symptoms of shortness of breath, and dizziness and his B/P was stable. This is his height 142 cm and weight 36 kg HR 70 and B/P 90/52. Avatar m tn I am also giving him Vetmedin, spironolactoneI and enalapril. Is there anyway to get him to eat anything? I know his condition is dire, but if he has no nutrition how can he regain strength? The vet won't give him hydration because of the fluid build up. Is CHF that much different than the cardiomyopathy? I feel so helpless.
Avatar n tn Hello, I have a 12 year old male himilayan that was diagnosed with hcm in February of 07. He is on enalapril every day. The vet is suggesting I have a follow up ultrasound done on his heart. I have absolutely no problem spending the money, but will this test show them anything that may cure him. Are there better treatments than the enalapril? I am so afraid of what they may find. They also thing he is beginning to have hyperthyroidism. Thank you for any advice.
13602926 tn?1458503960 He started taking 1.25 mg a day of Enalapril for the past week - a very LOW dosage - so I was hoping they would not go up. In one week he went from Creatinine 1.6 to 2.7 and BUN 95 to 127. They did not know if the values went up from normal progression of his kidney disease or from the Enalapril. I was told to keep the low dosage for two more weeks and have another kidney value blood test. His energy is up most of the time and he usually acts his old self. But from hour to hour he changes.
