m a 60 year old female taking Lotrel 5/20 and 25 mg Spironolactone for hypertension. (I started on HCTZ, however, after 3 months I developed a vascular rash on my arms which my doctor said was a reaction to the HCTZ and the sun so he switched me to Spironolactone). My BP has come down too low....I was getting readings of 98/58...so my doctor told me to take the Spironolactone only 2X per week. Would it be more effective for me to take 1/2 tablet everyday rather than a whole pill twice a week?
s when they found the pressure was high behind the leak. I am now on my third medicine Isorsorbide and HCTZ. I have stopped taking the medicine. What would happen to my heart. My doctor said my pressure will go back up again, is that true and will that cause my heart to fail. The medicine does not work, I still have the chest pains, the heart palpations,fatigued, weak, and swelling in my left foot. What do I do.

While living in the US I was using Benazepril 40 mg, but now I'm living in Ecuador and that med is not available here not as lotensin on benazepril.
What can I sustitute it with?
These beta blockers caused me so much problem that I requested him to give other medications like HCTZ. Now I am on HCTZ 25 mg. BP stays around 140/77-pulse around 60 but I feel chest pain two hours after taking and bp shoots up in the night off and on. Please help me with your comments and suggestions. Thanks.
I've successfully taken Ziac 10/6.25 Bisoprolol/HCTZ for several years. Due to Sythroid/thyroid meds I now need larger bp doses due to escalating pulse and blood pressure from it. The doctor said I had to switch from Ziac brand since 10 mg is the maximum Ziac pill size. The doc put me on 40 mg Propranolol and it didn't stop the high bp issue and I ended up in the hospital ER with 171/125 and 123 pulse readings.
I was on benazapril for hbp for quite a while, developed a slight dry scratchy cough my doctor described as benazepril cough. He changed me to valsartan last week and thats where the real fun began :-( 3 days on valsartan and I was having horrible side effects of dizziness, rapid heart rate, general feeling of crappiness, even slight shortness of breath with the slightest exertion None of which I experienced with the benazepril.
It really depends on why your vet put her on Benazepril? Is it for diagnosed high blood pressure - or is it to help the kidneys function better through increased blood flow?
Benazepril is a good drug for either, but if it is merely to help the kidneys (in other words, if your dog does not already have high blood pressure), then extreme caution is needed.
I've just been prescribed 25 mg Toprol xl for hypertension after giving 20mg liprinosil & 12.5 mg HCTZ a try for a month with not quite optimal results. I'm in my late 30s and in pretty good shape otherwise, been a runner for years, but my BP has been high for a while, especially in the Dr.'s office, up around 150/100, and I seem to have a very high adrenaline response. So I have been curious about beta blockers for that reason.
I am taking HCTZ for about 16 days but after 12 days it is causing me chest pain off and on. It starts after 2 hours of taking the tablet and prolongs for another six hours. Can somebody help me on this. My doctor says it doesn't happen with HCTZ. Thanks.
I have been on cozaar for 15 years. 4 years ago I was also placed on HCTZ, due to increasing BP. 7 weeks ago, after getting quarterly labs done, my PCP said my calcium was too high and took me off the HCTZ. She also said my TSH levels were high and placed me on synthroid. Last week I had office visit and my BP was 150/90. My doctor then put me on metaprolol. I started getting headaches every day. My BP remained at 150 to 160 over 90 to 100.
I've been lactating and wasn't sure if I was pregnant. My doctor did a blood test to see if I was and also did a hormone test to see why I was lactating if by chance I wasn't pregnant. Also at that visit she put me on hctz because I've been retaining water and wanted me to take it every other day. I had a problem before with Potassium loss from HCTZ. I was taken off of it when I went to the emergency ward, for certain symptons. My pressure is fine now unless Im in a Dr.s office. .... Now I take Fosinopril 40 and Verapamil 80 twice a day which is working perfectly.. The last docter wanted to try me on HCTZ once more telling me to drink alot of orange juice. After a month of taking it he realized I dont need them. My pressure goes up with anxiety of docters.
From my own experience: I have been taking 10mg Lisinopril/HCTZ for quite some time, a much higher dosage than yours - no headaches ever, so my vote is on Coreg.
For quite a few years I have been taking Antenolol (100mg) and HCTZ (25)mg. For quite a while now my pressure has been very good. My doctor told me this summer to cut the Antenolol in half (50mg) because my feet were swelling so much. Last week she said that I am doing so well, I can stop taking the Antenolol and just take the fluid pill. She told me to take Antenolol every other day for several days and then just stop. I have not had a pill since Tuesday of this week.
They sent me home with a prescription of hctz and propolonal 20 and 25 strength. At 12 noon I took my first prescription and at 3pm it was still high like the original number.
Does it take that long to work? Should I keep running back and forth to the ER? This is the first day..
Went to Doctor on Wednesday. I've been lactating and suspect pregnancy but maybe not. Dr. put me on HCTZ for fluid retention cause I've gained 20 lbs since January and also did lab work to see if pregnant and check my hormones to see if I'm not pregnant why I would be lactating. Got a call Friday- she said I'm pregnant- stop taking HCTZ. I had already made an appointment with my other Dr.
20mg once a day initially for roughly 6 months, now 10mg lisinopril and 12.5 mg hctz. I have had proggresive.extreme.fatigue, headache, blurred vision, palpitations, amxiety and now digestion problems. I have explained these issues to the doc but as you can see he just adjusted my dosage and tells me I'm absolutely healthy. I had none of these issues before I started prescription therapies. However to answer the question. I don't think there is a "break in" period for some.
tony thanks for your response the benazepril is to treat the hypertension and to reduce protein loss through the kidneys the amlodipine also for hypertension and control her plood pressure which was elevated the plavix is to reduce the chance of blood clots i also give her fish oil and give her chopped green cabbage with meals , i have started to wake up and give her a meal at 2;00 am and seems to have stopped the vomiting of bile . when karly was diagnosed in oct of 2015 she weighed 9.
My husband usually sacrifices "his orgasm" because the pain afterwards is very bad. Its not in his genital area. It seems like a bad head rush. He must stand up immediately, tilts head backwards as if looking at the ceiling. Then after about 1-2 min of this, he must lie down because he gets sharp pains in arm,shoulder & neck area. I am a 43 year old hypopara patient. I used HCTZ for 10 years to control my blood calcium. Last year, I got one morning and my heart rate when up to 128. My endo took me off HCTZ and my internal put me on Lopressor. I contued having a high heart rate after HCTZ was out of my system. This year, I was put back on HCTZ due to high urine calcium content but I could not tolerate the drug at all.
I've never had a history of high blood pressure until recently after a sudden death in the family. I've been put in Lisinopril 10 mg for one week and now on Lisinopril 10mg with Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) 12.5 because it wasn't dropping as low as the PCM wanted (128/90s). I've read a lot of horror stories of HCTZ causing severe visual problems such as closed-angle glaucoma and other vision losses. So back in November of 2008, I all of a sudden experienced strong palpitations from my heart everytime I ate solid food. Coupled by the fact that I could actually feel the sensation of my heart all of a sudden, my BP was around 160/100. Years later my BP is more or less controlled with Atenolol, HCTZ, and I'm taking Tricor for high triglycerides--not high cholesterol mind you, because my total, LDL and HDL are perfectly normal.
On May 12, I stopped taking HCTZ. I had read that some had had problems with HCTZ and sweating. Gradually, I seemed to have less sweating. Also, the feeling of being hot most of the time seemed to lessen. It is summer, and I do get hot, but others are hot, also. When I do sweat, it seems like a more normal sweat. I don't have sweat pouring down my face and into my eyes as much as I did, and my clothes don't become as wet.
