Belly button discharge after laparoscopic surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Belly button discharge after laparoscopic surgery

discharge

I had laparoscopic surgery one week ago today and about an hour ago I was looking at my belly button in the mirror cause I keep having bad pains in my belly button and there is a dark brown gooey discharge coming out from the incision. Does anyone know if this is normal? Thanks in advance.
(it is usually more than one) Sometimes a person goes in for laparoscopic surgery and ends up getting a laparotomy (open surgery) when the small incisions are just too small for them to work. That requires an at-home recovery of about six weeks and a longer hospital stay. I had a laparotomy, but from what I've seen, the majority of the ladies here that had laparoscopic surgery required more than 3-4 days at home. Hopefully more will respond to you soon.
I was used to this because a month piror to this surgery i had another surgery to drain a cyst and after that surgery i had very little bleeding. So to see blood after this surgery didn't worry me, but after i had gotten home and had been moving around alot i started to bleed ALOT!! I freaked out and called my doctor and he said that everything was normal that if i hadn't stopped bleeding by the end of my pack of birth control pills to inform him.
Also I got a call from the surgeon's office to follow up, mentioned a problem that I thought was trivial, and they thought was significant and fixable. So, it can truly help to ask. I felt down after the surgery and I think it was hormones (it was out of character for me), so you think that's happening for you too, especially with all the physical discomfort, it's probably very standard too.
When it comes, it's a few inches below my belly button, extending down into vagina. It's not a burning feeling--it's more of an ache or stabbing/pulling pain. It's gotten so bad at times that I can't walk or stand up straight, no position makes it go away. I feel pressure and pain when I need to tinkle, and while I am, and after. Sometimes before the pain in the center starts, I feel what kind of feels like cramps on the left side... it kind of migrates down.
My urologist said I have a prolapsed bladder, he is waiting to do surgery on that until after this next surgery. I'am discouraged thinking of going through another surgery!
The pain is in the lower left pelvic area and spreads up the abs to just above my belly button. When I press low it hurts high- when I press high it hurts low. When I have sex it hurts all over and I have twinges of pain after. The vagina feels fine it is everywhere else that disturbs me. Any suggestions??? Please help.

I walked hunched over for a bout two weeks after surgery. My belly button ended up getting infected even with the amt. of antibiotics I was on, leaking out yellow liquid. Now 5 1/2 months later I have been on Lupron every since. I suggest to everyone not to use Lupron, it puts in into menopause and gives your severe hot flashes and mood swings. They have also pinched my sciatic nerve while injecting one of the shots. TO STACE327: I find it very unusual that your Dr.
It is a little red, but there is a foul smelling discharge coming from my belly button. I guess it's slightly infected? Is this normal, this long after surgery? Any suggestions what I should do to clean it? I'm thinking alcohol or polysporin? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Nowadays, you don't have to make an incision but rather remove the uterus, cervix and ovaries through the belly button or delivery them vaginal. When these organs are removed through the belly button, a biopsy is impossible because the organs have been chopped (well not the best word) up into small pieces for removal. With a vaginal delivery, a biopsy can be proformed because these cervix, uterus and even ovaries can be removed pretty much intack..
i have like a irritating headache everyday, i have the heartburn every night, i am having to urinate alot more than normally and i have a discharge. Has anyone had these symptoms after TL and been pregnant? I really appreciate the info.....
I think they have a surgery now called vaginal reguvination (sp?). I 1st heard about it on Dr Drew on the discovery channel. I think after all my babies, I'll be checking into that.
After my laproscopy, I spotted/light bleeding for nearly two weeks after surgery. Not really enough to need a full size maxi pad, but enough that I needed the thin ones. I went through maybe 2-3 per day, and towards the end maybe 2 a day, sometimes only one. They told me it was fairly normal, especially because of the weird little machine they put in there (did they tell you about that one? Did you SEE it? I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that thing and realized where it had to go!
I am 26 and have this same problem for probably two years, extreme cramping instantly and bowel movement. I too have asked doctors and they tell me nothing. Its not just normal cramping like some people say above. It is so extreme I try to avoid all sex. I cannot avoid it however when it happens in dreams and I wake up in so much pain. The only thing I have seen that helps the pain is an herbal wrap that you heat up(you can get them @ walmart), and I lay that on my stomach.
I usually have a monthly period every 1st day of the month. Now my belly hurts so bad it felts like after I had my surgery 8-9 in a scale of 1-10. My period just start yesterday but I dont know if I can call this a period cause its very light seems like it a stain only. I usually have heavy period. This raise some concern to me. Is this normal?
I have no insurance now, so its just a waiting game. I am going to have to wait 2 weeks this time before I test again. Can't afford a test until after payday.
After an examination, she referred me to a Women's hospital here in Vancouver to see if I was a candidate for cryo-surgery. After an exam with a camera the doctor determined that it was not my uterus bleeding, but my cervix was VERY sensitive and would bleed to the touch, and like many of you here during bowel movements, sex, even sitting too long.
I can also feel a pulling on my belly button at times. My main thing is I don't usually spot before and after my period. Plus, my periods don't last 8 days either.
Hi I had a laparoscopic appendectomy last Tuesday, 9/9. Almost a week post-op, I'm feeling pretty much back to normal. As part of my discharge instructions, I was told that if I ran a fever of 101 or greater or redness and swelling at the incision site, I should go to the emergency room immediately. Were I in your situation, I would get myself to the emergency room ASAP. That does not sound right to me, and it seems that you are very worried. Good luck!!!!
I have 8 days to my 1st beta test after my ET on Aug 12. Out of 11 mature eggs only 4 fert after icsi and only 1 viable embryo. I too had OHSS after egg retrieval and am really hoping that this works. So far no signs of period coming so keeping fingers crossed. Does anyone know how many days after ET a period will come if it didn't work?
I've been recently buying more pjs and nice big comfy jogging pants to lay around the house in after surgery- I've also been making and freezing food as my hubby is not the best of cooks and I'm sure I wont be able to much after the surgery for a while! Try not to stress about it too much- just think about how much better you will feel once its all over. Would love to hear how you get on as I think our stories are pretty similiar- best of luck.
Only hours after my surgery, I had a pushy nurse insisting that I get up (for the second time in one hour) to go to the bathroom. I was asking for a bed pan b/c I was in pain and exhausted from my prior trip. I was in the hospital a total of 31 hours (including the time they operated on me) before I was made to leave (they wanted me to leave at the 24-hour mark). So I felt as if the faster and more activity that I performed, the better.
I haven't had that pain since surgery (except now my belly button is infected 4 months later.. crazy,. my RE said it was probably just a hair follicle) When I push on it I no longer get that shooting pain. I think what complexsimplicity said sounds pretty correct. If the naval connects to other points in the body, it could be lots of things. In my case it was endometriosis but it could be a number of things. Best of luck!
If you read it right after surgery read on an empty bladder and on fresh medication so you don't hurt so bad when you are laughing!
HCG usually becomes detectable in the urine about 10 days after conception, or about 4-5 days before the missed menstrual period. Because it can be difficult to know exactly when conception occurred, or when exactly the period is supposed to start, most experts recommend waiting 5-10 days after the period is late to ensure that the test is accurate. Most pregnancy tests on the market will show a positive result by 7-10 days after the missed menstrual period.
So he made 3 incisions, belly button, left lower abdomen and pubic area. They sort of rushed me out of the hospital which was very upsetting. One nurse I hadnt seen all day came in and i told her i didnt have ot pee yet - i was getting more to drink, she said too bad im ur gonna go and ur getting up now, took the side rail down and caught my IV in it, then grabbed me up so bad i couldnt even get tears out i was crying silently. Then my reg nurse came in and helped.
I have 2 4 inch incisions. One goes around my belly button. This incision starts below the belly button, curves around the right side of it, and then continues up. The top and bottom of this incision is in line with the middle of my belly button. This incision was where my surgeon removed the large intestine. The final incision is a bikini line incision. My surgeon was able to make this incision through the scar from the 6 inch incision I had from my bowel resection in September.
I had a laparoscopy, have a cut in my belly button and 2 small ones below that. I didn't do anything the day after surgery. By Friday I was at least up and showered and feeling much better. It's now Sunday and doing really good. Went to church and grocery store. Just be careful as you tire really easy. About 8 years ago I had a cyst on my left overy. My doctor removed the cyst back then and within a month I was back in surgery again to have the ovary removed as another cyst formed.
She had a little trouble with her remaining bowel waking up, so wound up back in the hospital the week after her surgery. Now, she is doing pretty well. It seems like some foods pass through her very quickly, so she is learning what she can tolerate best. She is active again and played 27 holes of golf this past weekend. From what I have read, she should be able to return to a normal diet over time. Good luck with your surgery. I am sure you will be fine.
