Barf diet vs kibble

Common Questions and Answers about Barf diet vs kibble

diet

Avatar m tn If you are going to feed a raw diet, you might want to look into the BARF diet, which includes raw, meaty bones. There's a lot of information on the internet about BARF that you can look up. Raw meaty bones will provide calcium and will also help to keep the teeth clean. Whether you end up with the BARF diet or some other type of diet, it needs to be a diet that is balanced for a dog's needs. There are pro's and cons to feeding raw bones.
Avatar f tn I did not know that!! But now that I do, I agree with you, totally cause that is what it was...pure kibble. He's doing fine. He ate rt after my original post then took a nap in my lap and the only reason he is awake is cause I got up so, I interrupted the King. Now he is on tree asleep.
Avatar m tn Friends - I am looking at a new dog tomorrow - eek!! It has been quite a while since I had fed Dais regular dog food since her kidney disease limited what she was allowed to eat. I have NO idea what foods are good vs. bad, best vs. better. Can you please tell me what you'd recommend? Tabby is a beagle girl around 2 years old.
Avatar m tn plus this kitty really would benefit from a canned diet and not being left on its own with a bowl of kibble, kibble is very hard on the kidneys...b/c of its lack of moisture...12% vs 78% with canned, no cat will ever drink enough water to compensate for this...cats by nature don't drink enough as it is.
612551 tn?1450022175 As discussed in other posts, our Westie is suspected to have allergies to some protein so his diet is restricted to an aforementioned Hills Prescription Z/D diet... he liked the kibble to start and really liked the canned version. That has all passed over the three weeks or so he has been on this diet.
Avatar f tn My Tazz has always had a very small amount of "people" food as well as her dry kibble. Veggies. eggs, rice, and meat or chicken. For the past few months after she "washes the plates" she immediatly vomits. If she only has dry kibble, she doesn't vomit. Could this be indicative of a liver or kidney problem? The vet said she is in excellent physical condition, not overweight, and her teeth look good.
6669309 tn?1462648142 Who switched to a grain free diet for their dogs? Why? Which one? Please tell me how you like it? How long have they been on it and finally what benefits have you seen? Thank you so much! I will be switching this month for my Chug, Rusty because of a suspected grain allergy. I am on a limited budget but must get my dog comfortable again. I can't afford more than $60.a month for this but would love it even cheaper if possible and still good quality.
20802456 tn?1513301350 I am not a fan of an exclusive dry kibble diet for dogs. And even when kibble is okay (to give with other food) it should be the topmost 5-star holistic food you can possibly get. It could be there aren't enough nutrients in that food. Forget the happy picture on the pack or the advertising jargon, or the "Country Home style chicken and rice dinner" label (which is designed to make OUR mouths water, but is basically just ad. hype.) Look at the ingredients list....
Avatar f tn ve tried to moisten the kibble with hot water to make it soft.. no luck. I need to stay with this diet for him, any suggestions how to make it more appetizing? I really don't want to have to switch totally over to wet food ( the vet charges an arm and a led for a can) and I have this huge bag of kibble. Any one have success with this food? Can i make anything at home to add to it?
3140169 tn?1342848421 some think that cats should only be on a canned food diet and some go with all dry diet but personally i say go with what work for your cat. if your cat does well on a canned diet then go with that if they do well on dry then go with that i think most people go with a 50/50 diet and feet their cats canned food once a day and have dry for them when they want it.
612551 tn?1450022175 As I live and learn I have concluded he is allergic to beef and I fee no grain kibble as his basic diet.
5769965 tn?1374113938 What does a "BUN of 70" mean? I feed my Westie about 3/4th Kibble and 1/4th canned - both are salmon/potato based. He drinks lots of water, so his Kibble gets water in the stomach.. I also sprinkle a little water on top of the Kibble. He doesn't like the Kibble to be floating in water. In the past I had added chicken broth to the Kibble, but I am now suspicious that he may be allergic to chicken. Both the Kibble and Canned have a 4 star or better rating on the dogfoodadvisor.
1118884 tn?1338592850 So after the trauma of visit, we leave with a 6.6 lb bag of Royal Canin veterinary diet...calorie control. And instructions to give 7/8s a cup per day. Good grief! The fact is....D is looking unhealthy. Really has put on weight in last 6 months. And I am the one furnishing the food now. In the beginning he roamed around complex and I suspected was fed by a couple of tenants. Our progress...he is now getting only the Royal Canin....but I'm not measuring.
1143283 tn?1408903305 I often chop/grind raw vegetables (carrots, cellary, cabbage - not all at the same time) into his dry Kibble, this adds moisture and fiber - I also give some cooked (canned) black beans and water in the Kibble. His bowel movements seem to benefit from this extra effort at providing a fiber rich diet. Most of these vegetable cost less than quality dog food, and often these vegetables are from left overs we'd be throwing away if we didn't feed them to the dog..
612551 tn?1450022175 s because some dogs ONLY have dry kibble as their regular diet and some dogs drink more than others naturally. Whether kibble tubas and a little water is enough, I can't say. My other problem with kibble is it generally has about a third less nutritional value than good quality tinned foods, in addition to the fact that tinned food helps hydrate a dog during the process.
Avatar n tn What you can do to get some weight off her is try the green bean diet. You substitute half green beans for her regular kibble. You can use fresh, low sodium canned (which I use) or frozen. Many of us have done this for years to get a couple if pounds off. Aside from food, you might want to get her thyroid tested.
Avatar m tn I think it fine for me to post what I now feed my dog, it isn't a general endorsement or advertisement, just what works, for now, here. In brief summary, our Westie is far more "discriminating" about what he eats than any other dog I have had association with. He also tires of any dog kibble I've given him in a week or two.
Avatar f tn Can also be from something in his diet, I have had a previous cat and also one I have now that both got very bloody stools from an ingredient in dry kibble....if on kibble try feeding cans for awhile, might save you lots on a vet bill.
Avatar f tn also no dry food, so it may also have been related to the preservatives in the kibble??? a real guessing game at times. he now eats a diet of fancy feast PATE only NO gravy...chicken. along with limited amounts of dry kibble... :( and has stayed lesion free for 5 years... https://www2.vet.cornell.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. My little 1 year and 6 months old dog has been ill on and off for the last year. His symptoms are that he will suddenly become very lethargic and weak, eats and drinks very little, his body will shake occasionally like hes shivering. He vomits and sometimes he has diarhhea and a slightly warm belly. Sometimes he's fine for months and then it will hit him suddenly. We cant see any sign of what might bring this on.
Avatar f tn I am also concerned you have not altered the diet significantly over the last year - and you are feeding kibble, which is the worst food you can give a dog with kidney disease. When were blood tests last undertaken and what were the results of those tests? Has your dog had a urinalysis undertaken? Has your vet performed a blood pressure check? When you say you are giving tripe and yoghurt - what kind of tripe are you feeding and what kind of yoghurt?
Avatar f tn Thanks for replying to my question...I give her kibble so should i try the natural balance from kibble?? No one is giving her scraps i can't even give her bones it is bad on her belly....
