974371 tn?1424653129 Next day the one on my arm was filled up again so called my PCP. He did a culture, prescribed generic Bactrim and generic Bactroban. I did as instructed and just finished the Bactrim. ( good thing I took it! I hate taking meds). Anyway, doctor called me this evening to say it was Staph/MRSA and the Bactrim was the right antibiotic. Scared the hell out of me ( ESP with all the news coverage of that poor girl).
Avatar n tn I have a staph infection the starts on the corners of my mouth. I went to see a Dermatologist and we took a culture. He informed that is was Staph. I don't remember which version. I was given Bactroban and some oral, I think Moxcecilin (sp?) as I pehnotically spell it. It cleared up. A few days later it came back. I took the oral and the bactroban did nothing. It spread to my ear, genitals, and my nose. I got another prescrption for the oral. It cleared up.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with a staph infection in and outside my nose. My nose was so red I could have been Rudolph'sister!! Anyways it would go away and come back again over and over every time getting worse and worse. I would get soars in my nose and on my top and bottom lip. It itches and burns and stings all at the same time. I now believe that my staph infection turned into perioral dermatitis. Is this possible?
Avatar n tn It turned up negative for herpes and positive for staph. I was placed on antibiotics and eventually the sores healed. Well recently, the sores have been reappearing. Just to be certain, I got a blood test for herpes type 1 and 2 which were both negative. My derm put me on another round of antibiotics which helped some but the sores keep sprouting, on my legs, arms and back. I'm also using bactroban which also helps a little bit but not much? What could this be?
Avatar f tn I have been to 3 different ENTs, one tested me for staph - came back moderate staph (not MRSA) and took Keflex for 10 days-no improvement. Tested again 5 days after last culture and came back negative. Said I should use Bacitracin for a year as Bactroban burned. (I am allergic to all antibiotics but 2 and most other drugs-happens over time) 2nd ENT said Bacitracin irritates and easy to get allergic to it. Already allergic to Neosporin.
Avatar n tn Now, I am left scared about my children being infected by me, concerns for my eyes which after 9 days on Bactrim 4 per day for 10 days and a 5 day round of bactroban are really red and feel dry. I am scared the infection is in my eyes. Also, my blood pressure and pulse rate are great.. Sounds good but not what is customary for me. It was 115/65 - and 55 pulse. Normally I am around 125/80 and 80.. It is just scary that the change is occuring now. Can you please advise.
Avatar n tn In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph). Wear cotton underwear and keep the area clean. Also use mild soaps like Dove. Apply Neosporin or Bactroban cream on the red bumps. If they decrease in size then it is folliculitis. If they remain the same then cysts should be ruled out.
Avatar n tn Hi, This could be a bacterial skin infection like Impetigo or an allergic reaction. Impetigo is a superficial skin infection, caused by staphylococcus ("staph") and streptococcus ("strep") bacteria. Though it is more common in children it can be seen in adults. The non-bullous variety is the common form, caused by both staph and strep. It appears as small blisters or scabs, which then form yellow or honey-colored crusts. These often start around the nose and on the face.
Avatar n tn Good face and hand and nail washing evey day will help keep staph bacteria levels low. Staph tends to colonize in the nose, you can get a nasal swab test at Dr.s office to see if you are "colonized" with staph. But most people have it on them in normal amounts as it is a fact of life that that bacteria lives as we do. The variety of strains, and treatments though are what I am not fully sure of. Currently I got a prescrition for Bactroban ointment.
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to boils, folliculitis or erythema induratum (less likely). Boils are caused by infection of the hair follicle by staph aureus. Hair follicles that are blocked by greasy creams, petroleum jelly, or similar products are more vulnerable to infection. Bacterial skin infections can be spread by shared cosmetics or washcloths, close human contact, or by contact with pus from a boil or carbuncle. Treatment includes antibiotics and do not touch or pick them up.

1409346 tn?1284149150 I went to the doc and recieved bactroban . The hole healed up but healed with a blister like look to it, and to me looked like a hair was still in there . I left it alone for awhile but once again messed with it and the blister drained blood and seemed like it was going to heal like a normal scar but it still healed the same with what to me looked like a hair trapped somewhere in the mess.
Avatar m tn Can i get red of a MSRA?
Avatar n tn I had that problem for over a year. It turned out to be staph infection. I was told to clean with peroxide every day and leave open to air as much as possible. Also, you need ant-biotics. The dr needs to do a culture to know which anti-biotic you need to clear it up. They keep coming and you have to get them to drain and continue using perioxide til it heals. It is best to go to the dr because it will go to other parts of the body.
Avatar m tn ENT said I had some colonies in nose soUsed Bacrtoban for 3 days and slight pain in my nose went away per ENT. I stopped the bactroban after 3 days because I was not sleeping but I was also using Nasocort and maybe that was the culprit. Cold gone sinus not infected but having some pain that feels like a tooth ache and slight tickle or sting in nostrils when breathing. Left septum is a little enlarged.
Avatar f tn I noticed a sore on each side of my inner thighs a day or two after i went to the water park the next day they were scabbed over and looked a little bit like staph infection. That same day I went swimming in a hotel pool and the scabs fell off. The next day a few more sores appeared on my inner thighs close to my buttocks. I was concerned and went to my doctor on Monday and she told me it could be a bacterial infection or herpes.

Avatar m tn It is good to look to the reason for the repeated staph infections. Staph aureus is the main cause of boils. But I believe in getting cultures if possible but if the doctor thinks it is not good to lance it due to spreading the bacteria around then you have to see what they say. Sometimes a hot compress with make it open on its own. Kids do get MRSA especially if they are in day care centers.
Avatar n tn He sent a sample to a lab for a culture but it came back negative for herpes (either type) but positive for staph. At the time I was taking valtrex. He then put me on antibiotics. The sores eventually went away but I am not sure which drug was responsible. I had never experienced any cold sore of any type prior to this breakout. Today I seem to be developing similar sores on the back of my knees. I'm wondering if this is indeed a herpes recurrence or another staph infection.

Avatar m tn Pediatrician diagnosed as a staph infection, and treated with oral anti-biotics (cephalexin). This seemed to clear up the infection, but the spots on his head remained. 6/15/2009 - Spots on his head started oozing again, again diagnosed as a staph infection, also an ear infection, treated with oral anti-biotics (amoxicillin/clavulanate) plus topical anti-biotic (bactroban), plus hydrocortisone 2.5%. Cleared up the infection, but the head spots remained.

Avatar m tn The results of the cultures came back last week and I apparently had a minor staph infection in my nose, so she prescribed Bactroban Nasal. I had to squeeze half of a small tube of the ointment into each nostril twice a day for 5 days. I finished the prescription a few days ago but my lips look the same! WHAT IS IT? And why won't it go away?! I am embarrassed and just cannot take it anymore. Please help.
