Bactroban for staph infection

Common Questions and Answers about Bactroban for staph infection

bactroban

i have a history of facial staph infections, and was recently rediagnosed with it - two small boils on my cheek. i was prescribed 500 mg keflex b.i.d. for five days (i asked for bactroban, as well, but the doctor said 'no'). at the time of diagnosis, i had already removed the hair follicle from each pustule (bad idea, i know) but the doctor didn't think it looked bad, thinking (i presume) that my early intervention with hydrogen peroxide had contained the infection.
If this ends up being a MRSA infection, what do they do for it? My choices of antibiotics are limited as I've already been on penicillin and a cephlasporin and it did not clear up + I am allergic to Levaquin and that class of antibiotics (fluroquinolones). I'm starting to get nervous about this infection. 4. Finally, my doctor suggests soaking the wound in warm water. What does this do? I'd appreciate your comments on this, I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to these things.
I have had a nasal staph infection for 3 months..it is now confined to each side of the septum. Have done courses of Bactrim, Augmentin, dicloxacillin along with bactroban cream. The initial course of bactrim and bactroban cleared it up in 8 days. Was told to stop taking medication...infection returned in 5 days. Am now on another round of Bactrim (completed 10 of 14 days) & it does not seem to be working. Have had CT scan and sinuses ok. What do you suggest I try next? Thanks!
I was diagnosed on 6/9/07 with a staph infection of both sides of my nasal septum. No cultures were taken. I am taking Bactrim 800/160 TID and Mupirocin 2% ointment TID to nasal septum.I have a headache and pain at the bridge of my nose, It was pain and bleeding that caused me to see the doctor. I have a slightly elevated temperature 99.6. I have been sweaty and clammy off and on. My doctor did not prescribe the nasal form of the Mupirocin 2% ointment.
After running some tests, he told me there was traces of staph infection. He gave me bactroban and ciclopirox creams to put on it 2-3 times a day. I did that for the full amount of time and it got a little better but then it just stopped getting better about halfway through the treatment. It's been about 6 months since that treatment but now it's almost summer and I'd just like to get rid of it. Anyone know what I can do?
The sample should be sent for culture sensitivity and then specific antibiotics need to be started which are sensitive for the infection. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Now, I am left scared about my children being infected by me, concerns for my eyes which after 9 days on Bactrim 4 per day for 10 days and a 5 day round of bactroban are really red and feel dry. I am scared the infection is in my eyes. Also, my blood pressure and pulse rate are great.. Sounds good but not what is customary for me. It was 115/65 - and 55 pulse. Normally I am around 125/80 and 80.. It is just scary that the change is occuring now. Can you please advise.
It turned up negative for herpes and positive for staph. I was placed on antibiotics and eventually the sores healed. Well recently, the sores have been reappearing. Just to be certain, I got a blood test for herpes type 1 and 2 which were both negative. My derm put me on another round of antibiotics which helped some but the sores keep sprouting, on my legs, arms and back. I'm also using bactroban which also helps a little bit but not much? What could this be?
I am dealing with some health issues at the moment, and one of those issues is an infection I believe I got from shaving my body hair. I have had an augmentin resistant staph infection since Sept last year. I let it go till last May or June when I took 5 and a half days of Sulphamethoxazole before I had to stop from a bad reaction. It was killing the infection, but then the infection returned because I couldn't complete the course.
I just got out of the hospital for the same thing... Mine was a serious staph infection in my nose.... This is nothing to play with it is serious you need to go see your doctor right away...
I now, just had another boil pop up in the surrounding area. Could it still be from the staph infection? I've found websites detailing HS and am now really anxious that it could be that! What are your thoughts? I have an upcoming appt with my derm, but I'll have to wait a few wks.
Or should I get oral antibiotics for staph...and who should I go to for that? A normal doctor or a dermatologist?
My world was rocked on December 24, 2007 when I was told that I had a staph infection called MRSA. Since then I have been trying to get rid of this skin infection by taking two antibiotics, taking bleach bathes, getting lots of rest, eating right, drinking lots of water.
My husband has been prescribed Bactroban to help treat recurring staph infections, which usually manifest as folliculitis on his legs. The RX was written for Bactroban Cream, but in checking the Glaxo-Kline website, noted that the cream is not formulated for use on mucosal areas. The prescribing PA directed us to use the cream in the nasal passage.
I went to my nurse practioner and she prescribed bactroban and also swabbed it. The bactroban was effective and the rash cleared by at least 50% within two to three days. Then my nurse practioner called and said the culture showed e. coli. She then prescribed cipro. She said that e. coli is normally present in urine and maybe it got in through a nick in my skin or something. NOW, I have the same rash (I believe) on the back of my leg! I know I didn't urinate on the back of my leg.
Went to Dr to see PA to test its for staph. She said she didn't need to type it and gave me a script for Bactrim generic. Started my new meds at 4:00 this afternoon and that rave on my face looks really angry and a little larger. Has any other warrior had a problem with cellulitis or staph? Hope not. Thanx and keep up the great work.
I am sexually active, but no unprotected sex at all. Is this an STD or some other infection? Should I see a Doctor?
I noticed a sore on each side of my inner thighs a day or two after i went to the water park the next day they were scabbed over and looked a little bit like staph infection. That same day I went swimming in a hotel pool and the scabs fell off. The next day a few more sores appeared on my inner thighs close to my buttocks. I was concerned and went to my doctor on Monday and she told me it could be a bacterial infection or herpes.
The regimen I followed was a daily shower with hibiclens (be sure to use moisturizer, since hibiclens is irritating), and twice a day putting the mupirocen in both nostrils and wiping it on my butt (just put some on toilet paper and wipe) for two weeks. Take my advice for what it's worth as I am not a doctor. Finally, you should probably see a free clinic. Trust me, they've seen worse, and they'll be professional about it.
Your respiratory and sweathing symptoms are not at all suggestive of HIV, and clearly there is nothing here to suggest high risk for HIV, despite your partner's chlamydial infection. You can judge the truthfulness of your partner's assertion of no other recent sex partners, and your own truthfulness in that; I cannot.
The doctors definitely said the original source of the infection was staph. She sees an allergist and receive 4 injections per month. We went to ENT yesterday and she said the CT scan done on 9/9 did "not look good" but she did not elaborate. She placed her on Ocean Spray with Bactroban, Augmentin 800 mg x 3 weeks, Prevacid and a Medrol Dose Pack. I am concerned that the doctor feels Sam may have another staph infection but did not tell me.
I'm concerned too as I have been around people that have Merca Staph Infection - and are being treated for that. So, do I try to see an ENT or my general practioner? Any suggestions? What is the treatment if it is Merca or another Staph Infection?
Today I decided to get a second opinion and went to Doctors Care and they took one look in my nose and without hesitation diagnosed me with cellulitis (staph infection). I was prescribed Doxycycline Hyclate 100MG tablets and also they administered a shot of antibiotics and gave me a prescription for Bactroban nasal ointment. Seems this is a really serious infection that can spread to your brain if not treated and thanks to my own gut feeling I got a second opinion.
I have a staph infection the starts on the corners of my mouth. I went to see a Dermatologist and we took a culture. He informed that is was Staph. I don't remember which version. I was given Bactroban and some oral, I think Moxcecilin (sp?) as I pehnotically spell it. It cleared up. A few days later it came back. I took the oral and the bactroban did nothing. It spread to my ear, genitals, and my nose. I got another prescrption for the oral. It cleared up.
Now the doctors say that a positive swab for staph doesn't necessarily mean that I have a staph infection. My big concern is that my girlfriend has developed similar itchy bumps on her body and the medication above doesn't seem to be helping her either. Any thoughts? Should I continue applying the bactroban and taking keflex? If this is an allergic reaction (since the bumps kind of look like hives) to something then why would my girlfriend develop the same condition at the same time as me?
Hello, It can be due to boils, folliculitis or erythema induratum (less likely). Boils are caused by infection of the hair follicle by staph aureus. Hair follicles that are blocked by greasy creams, petroleum jelly, or similar products are more vulnerable to infection. Bacterial skin infections can be spread by shared cosmetics or washcloths, close human contact, or by contact with pus from a boil or carbuncle. Treatment includes antibiotics and do not touch or pick them up.
My husband gets ingrowns hairs sometimes on his inner upper thighs, well this one he has had for about a month, it feels like a marble under the skin, he says its painful he has tried popping it with a pin a few times blood & puss comes out for a min but it just hardens back up. We don't have health insurance right now so he is trying to avoid going to the Doc. any tips?
Hi, This could be a bacterial skin infection like Impetigo or an allergic reaction. Impetigo is a superficial skin infection, caused by staphylococcus ("staph") and streptococcus ("strep") bacteria. Though it is more common in children it can be seen in adults. The non-bullous variety is the common form, caused by both staph and strep. It appears as small blisters or scabs, which then form yellow or honey-colored crusts. These often start around the nose and on the face.
