I have a staph infection the starts on the corners of my mouth. I went to see a Dermatologist and we took a culture. He informed that is was Staph. I don't remember which version. I was given Bactroban and some oral, I think Moxcecilin (sp?) as I pehnotically spell it.
It cleared up. A few days later it came back. I took the oral and the bactroban did nothing. It spread to my ear, genitals, and my nose. I got another prescrption for the oral. It cleared up.
Anyways it would go away and come back again over and over every time getting worse and worse. I would get soars in my nose and on my top and bottom lip. It itches and burns and stings all at the same time. I now believe that my staph infection turned into perioral dermatitis. Is this possible? I have been prescribed bactroban 2% and cephalexin 500mg 3x's a day but they were for the staph infection. Is it going to help with the perioral dermititis?
It turned up negative for herpes and positive for staph. I was placed on antibiotics and eventually the sores healed. Well recently, the sores have been reappearing. Just to be certain, I got a blood test for herpes type 1 and 2 which were both negative. My derm put me on another round of antibiotics which helped some but the sores keep sprouting, on my legs, arms and back. I'm also using bactroban which also helps a little bit but not much? What could this be?
I have been to 3 different ENTs, one tested me for staph - came back moderate staph (not MRSA) and took Keflex for 10 days-no improvement. Tested again 5 days after last culture and came back negative. Said I should use Bacitracin for a year as Bactroban burned.
(I am allergic to all antibiotics but 2 and most other drugs-happens over time)
2nd ENT said Bacitracin irritates and easy to get allergic to it. Already allergic to Neosporin.
Now, I am left scared about my children being infected by me, concerns for my eyes which after 9 days on Bactrim 4 per day for 10 days and a 5 day round of bactroban are really red and feel dry. I am scared the infection is in my eyes. Also, my blood pressure and pulse rate are great.. Sounds good but not what is customary for me. It was 115/65 - and 55 pulse. Normally I am around 125/80 and 80.. It is just scary that the change is occuring now. Can you please advise.

This could be a bacterial skin infection like Impetigo or an allergic reaction. Impetigo is a superficial skin infection, caused by staphylococcus ("staph") and streptococcus ("strep") bacteria. Though it is more common in children it can be seen in adults.
The non-bullous variety is the common form, caused by both staph and strep. It appears as small blisters or scabs, which then form yellow or honey-colored crusts. These often start around the nose and on the face.
But I know Bacitracin Ointment should NEVER be used on wounds with staph in them, as that is the type of stuff the staph is resisting and learning how to resist. I am pretty sure thats what happened to me, I think I had empetigo (another form of staph infection) and I used bacitracin on them sometimes, they NEVER seemed to heal. I used a lot of old MAKE UP and COVER UPs that probably contained bacteria as well, so my outbreaks were on-going. I just leaned that.

It sounds like a resistant staph to me. Staph aureus cause boils, furuncles, and folliculitis and other problems. Do you see any scabs or sores on your skin that have a hair growing out of them? So I wonder if you have folliculitis, which is infection of the hair follicle? It is good if you can get to the source of the infection. Yes one thing is to try to keep your body dry once you do exercise and finish sweating and cool down then shower and then dry yourself very well.
Use hot compresses to bring it to a head. Go online and check staph infections and you can see what they look like. Some say it is contagious, some say it isn't. My husband never got it. Hope you get it cleared up. Let me know what happens. I am curious as to what your dr does. They leave scars, too. Go while you have the infection before it drains so he can test it. There is one MRSA. Staph can be life threatening, as you will see when you read information on it.
ENT said I had some colonies in nose soUsed Bacrtoban for 3 days and slight pain in my nose went away per ENT. I stopped the bactroban after 3 days because I was not sleeping but I was also using Nasocort and maybe that was the culprit.
Cold gone sinus not infected but having some pain that feels like a tooth ache and slight tickle or sting in nostrils when breathing. Left septum is a little enlarged.
I noticed a sore on each side of my inner thighs a day or two after i went to the water park the next day they were scabbed over and looked a little bit like staph infection. It sounds like a staph infection. You need to get her into doctor as it could be MRSA but in any case it is highly contagious and she will need antibiotics for it. Try to not share towels and wash anything in contact with it in hot soapy water. Wash hands frequently. Try to keep her hands off of it.

this all time i was having really bad burning,etching,tingling in my mouth and on face.he give me bactroban cream and he was sure ,that is not herpes,then no much heap from him to,i got really seek coughing,red blisters with white top around my mouth.2 weeks after that i went to see infarction specialist .he ran blood test for all std.this time hsv 1 was poz,i spoke with him about my weakness.he told me im good its just i afraid,he told me hsv1 is not big dial go home and get buck to ur life.
Pediatrician diagnosed as a staph infection, and treated with oral anti-biotics (cephalexin). This seemed to clear up the infection, but the spots on his head remained.
6/15/2009 - Spots on his head started oozing again, again diagnosed as a staph infection, also an ear infection, treated with oral anti-biotics (amoxicillin/clavulanate) plus topical anti-biotic (bactroban), plus hydrocortisone 2.5%. Cleared up the infection, but the head spots remained.
This is 15 years later and now its back, I have chapped skin under my nose and all around my mouth and lips and also under my eye, it almost looks like I have a black eye because of the redness and swelling. It is now on my hands and fingers. My symptoms are, itchiness, chapping, red and inflamed, cracked.
I decided to make a dermatologist appointment, and she prescribed Nystatin and Mupirocin for the time being, and took two cultures, one of the corners of my mouth and one in my nose to check for bacteria. I had to mix the two prescriptions together 2-3 times a day for 5 days. The condition definitely got better, but was still somewhat visible. The results of the cultures came back last week and I apparently had a minor staph infection in my nose, so she prescribed Bactroban Nasal.
