zithromax

Avatar m tn I got infected about 3 weeks ago with Gonorrhea of the throat i had a mild sore throat and just thought it was tonsillitis since i suffer from it a lot i just went to a STD clinic and told me i have Gonorrhea in the throat and since i am extremely allergic to penicillin they gave me 2 gm of Azithromycin to take in a single dose which i did today. Now, since yesterday i have been experiencing some joint discomfort and sever non-stop tingling all over my body. My question is could this be DGI?
Avatar f tn Cephalexin (Keflex) is a good antibiotic as well. The similarity with penicillin is only important for people who are allergic to penicillin (as they will also be allergic to keflex). Personally, I would go with Azithromycin (or Clindamycin) if penicillin isn't working, but Cephalexin is different enough it might work. You can tell if its working if the pain/swelling go away in 4-5 days.
Avatar n tn 2%) on azithromycin and 1/22 (4.5%) on ciprofloxacin. Hence, azithromycin stat dose has proved to be a cost-effective treatment for uncomplicated gonorrhoea supported by the increased prevalence of penicillin-resistant organisms, concomitant chlamydial infection and the high failure rate in keeping review appointments.
Avatar f tn Hi, can anyone advise if the treatment for oral gonorrhoea is the same as vaginal? Also as I'm allergic to penicillin is 400mg of Suprax® / Cefixime and 1000mg Azithromycin ok to treat it. I'm in the uk, what are the chances of a resistant strain?
Avatar f tn i have been diagnosed with syphilis, am about 64kg, can i take azithromycin 1.5g for treatment?
Avatar f tn I tested positive for Gonorrhea of the throat today. I’m allergic to Penicillin and Doxy, so my doctor decided that 2 tablets of Azithromycin 500mg totalling to 1000mg was enough. However, online along with my local lgbt center say that I was not fully treated. Is this correct? I’m really stressed and upset, so I don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve already taken the prescribed Azithromycin, and my Doctor asked for me to return for retesting in 10 days.
Avatar m tn 1)I took some Penicillin,Azithromycin and Cephalosporin discontinuously during the 8 weeks, does it affect the TP-ELISA result for syphilis testing ? 2) i mean, can i preclude the possibility of syphilis infection for the 8 weeks of the TP-ELISA test results ? thanks for helping me !
Avatar n tn In patients allergic to beta-lactams, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Bactrim), clarithromycin (Biaxin), and azithromycin. So, if you are allergic to the penicillin group your doctor could have prescribed Bactrim for you. Regards.
Avatar f tn I’m not allergic to penicillin. I took the Azithromycin on my own without doctor consult after reading that 2g orally in single dose was effective. So erring on the side of caution I took 3g. I’m a part time prepper and have stockpiles of meds, food, water, etc. so I had Azithromycin at my disposal. My question is still if combining the two will have any synergistic effect or if it has a negative effect on one or both. Or if it’s not going to affect one way or the other but still be effective.
Avatar f tn No credible data suggests that syphilis has been able to adapt to penicillin, probably, Lukehart explained, because penicillin attacks a critical site on the bacterium that is so crucial to the bug’s survival that it can’t change it. Still, the loss of azithromycin makes infections tough to treat in people allergic to penicillin since they must be desensitized — often in a hospital — and then treated.
Avatar n tn It is statistically very unlikely that any gonorrhea would be resistant to all 3 antibiotics you have received, i.e. cipro, azithromycin, and penicillin. Gonorrhea is no longer a concern. The penicillin definitely will cure syphilis if you were exposed.
Avatar m tn tested positive for syphillis) therefore a few days after that,i decided to go to another doctor for a second opinion and was given azithromycin 500mg to be taken once daily, he said it is a better choice than doxycycline. I did some further readings, azithromycin seems to be given more for GO & chlamydia rather than syphillis. currently, i am still taking doxycycline twice daily 100mg capsule. Should i change to azithromycin and stop the doxycycline regime, or just stay with doxycycline?
Avatar m tn m guessing the injected antibiotic was ceftriaxone, not penicillin) and that the two other pills were azithromycin. If so, you were treated appropriately and adequately, and within 24 hours you were non-infectious for your partner. We usually recommend waiting a week after treatment to resume sex, but actually 2-3 days is plenty, so you can be confident you did not put your more recent partner at risk.
475555 tn?1469304339 On the Olysio PI it says to avoid taking Erythromycin and derivatives. Azithromycin, which is what I normally take during dental work, is made from Erithromycicn, according to Wikipedia, so I probably shouldn't take it. But I've have trouble (serious gastrointestinal problems) with the alternative antibiotic, Amixicillin. Does anyone here know about this stuff. like what antibiotics it would be safe to take? This is a serious and urgent problem for me.
Avatar f tn So I had chlamydia about a month ago, approximately, and my tonsils were very swollen, so when I got treated for the chlamydia they prescribed me azithromycin, so I took the medication and within a week my symptoms were going away one by one by my tonsils still are very swollen to this day and they don't seem to be going down, ive always had generally large tonsils but never this large. My tonsils have these little holes in them and sometimes the holes with have puss in them.
Avatar n tn Other known pathogens causing infections of the throat are viral and yeast (candida). The antibiotic of choice for a streptococcal infection is penicillin but azithromycin is also effective. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn He has started treatment with doxycycline and azithromycin. A day after starting treatment a few red spots appeared under the skin on his hands (both hands, 3/4 sports clustered together). The skin is not broken, the spots are under the skin. They have also started to fade away after a day. We asume these are a syphilis rash. Since the skin is not broken, are these red spots contagious? Can I get syphilis from shaking his hand? What about from hugging him?
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Azithromycin to syphilis (early stage). I am allergic to penicilin. However, the doctor prescribed 5 doses (one a day) of 500mg (that is, during 5 days). But I have read that for Syphillis the recommendation is 1g dose (instead of 500mg). 1) Is the dose prescribed enough for Syphillis? 2) five days is enough?
Avatar n tn I am guessing you need some that do not prolong the QT interval, as the bradycardia can cause this. There are a variety of websites which list these drugs. But usually most penicillin, cephalosporins are thought to be safe, whereas macrolides, such as erythromycin, azithromycin, are thought not to be. Also the antifungals are also not safe ( all the ones ending in azole). Besides antibiotics there are many other drugs which can also prologue the QT interval which you should be careful with.
Avatar f tn you need to repeat your gonorrhea testing from the sounds of things. You should've both had a shot of penicillin and also a shot of ceftriaxone along with azithromycin pills. what you posted doesn't sound like you had proper treatment for all 3 of these std's. both of you repeat your gonorrhea testing to make sure it's gone.
Avatar n tn discomfort in my penis/ urethra, testicle pain and dysuria. Dr took blood and urine samples (came back negative) & prescribed azthromycin and another antibiotic for UTI. 3 Days later with symptoms still persisting I visited STD clinic. (Chlamydia, gonorrhea, & MG - negative) They said: very low risk event - continue life normally, including sex with my wife. 6 weeks later: symptoms persist. 10-20 mins after urination: mild to moderate burning pain in my urethra. Dysuria persists.
