Azithromycin single dose

Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin single dose

zithromax

I took azithromycin single dose of 1g yesterday for diagnosed Chlamydia. Would it hurt me to take a 2g does the following day to cover the possibility of gonnorhea? It wasnt diagnosed but since I have the medicine here, I wanted to take it to really cover my bases but didnt want to overdose or anything. I wish I would have just taken a single 2g dose the first day.
I was recently diagnosed with chlamydia..and was prescribed a single dose of azithromycin. I took it yesterday, and was wondering how soon should I be noticing symptoms going away? I did some research and it says that azithromycin can last in your system for up to 3 days or so. I still have a mild fever here and there and swollen lymph nodes in the groin area. Other symptoms such as body aches and burning sensation during urinating are absent.
8 am and then whn 8pm roll around take it again? Also do u think it's a good idea for my partna get check as well for chlamydia Being tht they diagnosed me with it.
The doctor prescribed a single 2 gram oral dose of Azithromcin. My question is this... How effective is this treatment for these two STDs?
Hi I was treated with a single dose of Azithromycin on the 10th of Dec so exactly three weeks ago, I also had thrush that I was treated for. Three weeks on I am experiencing some discharge, minor vaginal soreness and itching, but I also have an itchy anus which bled last week. Are these just lingering symptoms that will go away or do I still have it? Also, the night I took the antibiotics I had sex with my partner, could this have stopped them working? Thank you!
Hello and hope you are doing well. The adult azithromycin dose is 500-2000 mg in multiple or single doses. For most infections, azithromycin is taken once daily for a relatively short course of treatment (usually five days). The first dose is often a "double dose," twice as much as the remainder of the doses given. For acute bacterial sinusitis, azithromycin way be taken once daily for three days. So, you may not need any refills for Azithromycin.
Thanks Aj, my concern was that a 500mg dose twice a day wouldn't be as strong as a single 1g dose. Does your advice mean that the dosage I was prescribed should be sufficient, i.e. 2 x 500mg doses per day for 3 days, rather than 1 x 1g dose?
I just started treatment of chlamydia with a 1g single dose of azithromycin orally 2 days ago and now i realized that i probably should have also tried treating gonorrhea as well with the same drug. Since i've read that curing gonorrhea requires a 2g single dose of azithromycin, i probably should retreat for gonorrhea at some point in the future. How long should i wait until i attempt to retreat? Im handling the 1g dose ok...just some painful tenderness in my lower stomach.
5 Grams of Azithromycin taken in a single dose, 12 hours after unprotected oral would most likely take care of incubating Chlamydia, Syphilis, or Gonorrhea (of any other incubating bacterial infection).
i ate a cup of yoplait light and then took my single dose of 4 pills of azithromycin is that ok?
Recommended Regimens Ceftriaxone 125 mg IM in a single dose OR Cefixime 400 mg orally in a single dose or 400 mg by suspension (200 mg/5ml)
I was recently given a 250 mg z pack of azithromycin, I took the 500 mg today like the box said. But now looking online it says i should have taken 1000mg. the box has 4 more doses of 250 mg. Should i take another 2 today since i took the first two about 6 hours ago, or should I take 1000mg tomorrow or just keep taking 250 mg for the next 4 days like the box says?
500 mg the first day and 250 mg for the next four days. I'm curious as to if this will work in treating it the same as the single 1g dose would?
I am male 31 years no heart problems or heart history problems in my family(this meaning my parents). I have a serious problem . 3 days ago I took a single dose of Azythromycine of 1000 mg( 2 pills of 5oo mg taken all at once). Now I am experiencing palpitations ,chest pain ...and tachycardia.I never had tachycardia before so I am guessing that all of the symptoms that I am experiencing are due to Azithromycin .What should I do?How long will these symptoms last?
I have some left over ciprofloxacin 500 mg. would I need to take another 1g of azithromycin + cipro 500 mg single dose, or just cipro. I have not had sex since taking original dosage of azithromycin. I know I should go see a doctor. I already know that. I'm choosing not too.
As chance would have it, I have lead most of the research that has been done on azithromycin for syphilis therapy. A number of studies have shown that azithromycin in a dose or 2.0 grams (4 500 mg pills) taken at one time is just as effective as penicillin for syphilis treatment however, there are some cases of treatment failures with azithromycin for syphilis treatment and many of the treatment failures have come from San Francisco where you apparently live.
They gave me 2x 500mg of Azithromycin to be taken as a single dose. They told me to abstain from sex for 7 days and then sent me on my way. I did find it a bit odd that they did not test me but they seemed convinced it was Chlamydia. I took the medication as directed 5 days ago and I have yet to see relief from these symptoms. I have not engaged in any sexual activity other than masturbation. Here are my questions... 1) Do you agree with the health clinic that this is likely Chlamydia?
The azithromycin regimen you describe has not bee studied against chlamydia, but almost certainly it would be just as effective as single dose treatment, probably even more effective. The treatment is effective in eradicating chlamydia within a few days. There is no drug in the world that alters the effectiveness of azithromycin against chlamydia. Your minor symptoms do not suggest chlamydia or any STD. Many things can cause vaginal area itch and discharge.
1) Will it be effective against gonnorhea and syphilis? 2) I have read online that syphilis strains have become resistant against azithromycin, how do you judge that for Germany and my situation in particula? 3) Is HIV even a concern 4) Can you calculate my risk in numbers (especially syphilis)? 5) My wife and kids will be back in 12 days and I have to function by then again. Any hints how I may manage this (Iknow that is somewhat beyond the scope of that forum)?
Even where resistance is most common, 80-90% of strains remain susceptible to it. Further, although azithromycin in the dose you received isn't reliable by itself, it also would be effective against 80-90% of strains. It is entirely safe to take the two drugs together. That's done all the time, i.e. one drug for gonorrhea (formerly cipro, nowadays ceftriaxone or cefixime) and another for chlamydia (azithromycin or doxycycline). They don't interfere with each other in any way.
But they say antibiotics is best, ceftriaxone single dose, azithromyein 3 or 5 day pack, and last doxycycline ywice daily for 10 days. Now is this the kind of info you want.
Many cases of NGU probably are due to normal oral bacteria, which cause inflammation in the urethra. Azithromycin in a single dose of 2.0 g--that is, the dose you took--is the treatment of choice, so your doctor was right: it would have taken care of anything you caught. If your symptoms persist or return, visit your doctor again; but the odds are they will clear up. You can be confident now that you no longer have anything you can transmit to a sex partner, if you ever did.
Doxycycline (100mg) Azithromycin (250mg) I have this with me but dont know the doses of these
Turns out the 1 time dose of azithromycin most of us are given for chlamydia treatment is also covering syphilis which is very good news since we can't test for syphilis as early as chlamydia and gonorrhea. For those who have a fear of needles this is also good news :) J Infect Dis. 2010 Jun 1;201(11):1729-35. A phase III equivalence trial of azithromycin versus benzathine penicillin for treatment of early syphilis.
As you probably know, we know that a single 1.0 gram dose of azithromycin will cure nearly all chlamydial infections and is the recommended therapy for NGU. For gonorrhea the 2.0 gram dose is recommended. The 2.0 gram dose is also the dose shown to be effective for syphilis. You describe taking 1500 mg (1.5 grams) over about 3 days. This dose would probably cure most chlamydial infection and NGU and some gonorrhea or syphilis but not all.
*Acute bacterial sinusitis 500 mg QD x 3 days *Genital ulcer disease (chancroid) One single 1 gram dose *Non-gonoccocal urethritis and cervicitis One single 1 gram dose *Gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis One single 2 gram dose *********************************8 One gram = 2 of the 500mg Zithromax tablets I did find your explanation about antibiotic resistance interesting and could be right on the mark considering the long replication time of Bb.
I was diagnosed with chlamydia, and I was given 2 500mg of azithromycin to be taken as a single dose. I've read, however, that you're supposed to take 1g at once, which is double what I took. I got tested again and still had chlamydia. Could this be why?
Hi doc, Over a week ago I took a single dose of azithromycin because I tested positive for chlamydia. My boyfriend had the same treatment 5 days ago. Last night he performed oral sex on me and now I am wondering if I could be reinfected??
The CDC recommended dosing of azithromycin for Chlamydia is 1000 mg taken as a one time dose.
