Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin side effects zithromax

zithromax

5268376 tn?1406179712 I looked at Zithromax side effects, they vary by the dosage, single or multiple doses, doses in combination with another drug, and are listed as pre-marketing trials and post-marketing reports. Rhythm issues were reported less than 1% of the time in pre-marketing trials, and also in post-marketing reports. Post marketing reports are apparently voluntary and often include things clearly not related to the drug.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the forum. Azithromycin in a single dose of 2 g is one of the back-up recommendations for gonorrhea treatment, if the treatments of choice (e.g. ceftriaxone, cefixime) are not available or if the infected person may be allergic to them. It is very reliable and has the advantage of also being effective against chlamydia -- which actually requires only a 1 g dose. Except for rare allergic reactions, the only side effect of azithromycin is gastrointestinal intolerance.
Avatar f tn -- azithromycin (Zithromax) and atovaquone (Mepron) for 4 months -- clindamycin (Biaxin) and cefdinir (Omnicef) for 5 months -- stopped due to edema -- metronidazole (Flagyl) and azithromycin (Zithromax) for 4 months + 1 week -- stopped (dr's orders) due to severe intestinal inflammation from Flagyl Now 3 days after stopping the meds, I can feel the disease symptoms creeping slowly back, and want to figure out (before seeing my dr again) what tricks there are to tolerate these meds aga
Avatar m tn Be sure that you are not allergic to either drug and look up the product characteristics on the net so you fully understand the side effects etc before you take them. As I say, this is plan B. Plan A would be see an experienced STD doctor. I would not take any more zithromax. Zithromax, whilst not a first line treatment for gonorrhoea does have pretty good efficacy against it.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had the unfortunate side effects form Zithromax that causes heart racing and palpitations and did they go away on their own or require treatment.
Avatar m tn 2) On Day 7 I felt an urge to examine my genitals and I think I noticed (now everything is confused in my mind) a slightly bumpy follicle and to its side some sort of discontinuous spot. I started to mess with it using a sterilized needle to see if it was ingrown hair. Basically I created two small wounds, and later I couldn't tell to what extent my skin had been "normal" before acting on it and I started to panic about syphilis.
Avatar m tn t recommend blind treatment of this sort. However, a single dose of azithromycin (Zithromax) is not likely to be harmful. It effectively treats or prevents syphilis and chlamydia, and probably gonorrhea -- 1 gram is on the low side for reliable activity against gonorrhea, but is still at least 90% effective. My only other advice is that you keep those condoms happy for the next time! I hope those comments are helpful.
4451049 tn?1387153437 Drugs ******* says this (and other things) about azithromycin: "Cardiovascular side effects have rarely included arrhythmias (including ventricular tachycardia), prolongation of the QT interval, torsades de pointes, palpitations, hypotension, and chest pain in postmarketing experience. A causal relationship has not been established.
Avatar m tn At some point (and you may well be there at this time), it is appropriate to accept recurrent, previously treated NGU as the nuisance it is and to not pursue further evaluation and therapy which is costly and creates the risk of complications due to medication side effects and additional costs. In most cases the process gradually goes away on its own.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with mild NGU although I am still waiting for my Chlamydia and Gonorrhea results. I have been given one single dose of azithromycin (1 g) . It has been four days now, and when i urinate there is still a burning sensation. I have not had any discharge at all. Before (Hours before) I have the burning feeling when I urinate, I also have a feeling of pressure/pain at my pelvis. 1.
Avatar f tn Zithromax All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Zithromax: Diarrhea or loose stools; headache; mild stomach pain; nausea; upset stomach; vomiting.
Avatar m tn Yes, azithromycin (Zithromax) could well give negative resutls even if you had gonorrhea or chlamydia. Had you asked ahead of time, I would have advised not spending money on those tests once you had been treated. Azithromycin also would abort syphilis if you had been exposed.
Avatar m tn Five days of doxycycline would probably have cured the infection and 1.5g of azithromycin of 50% more azithromycin than is required for chlamydial therapy. Wither way you would be cured. 1) Would 5 days of doxycycline and on day 6 the 1.5 g zithromax cure chlamydia if present? Yes 2) I used zithromax back in july for an ear infections. Would this build up resistance against chlamydia due to overuse of zithromax? Probably not. I hope these comments are helpful. Enjoy your holiday.
Avatar m tn I was with someone exposed to both. I am taking one dose of 1.5g of zithromax to stop or cure myself from catcing of having either one. Will this work and or do the job?
Avatar m tn I received zithromax (azithromycin) for 5 days. (500 mg the first day and 250 mg day 2-5). The symptoms have improved, for example I no longer have the morning discharge that I had before and the stains in my underwear have almost disappeared. It is now 5 days since I took the last dose of zithromax. I still have some mucus strings and mucus debris in my urine. I did not have this before the STD so I know it is not normal for me.
Avatar f tn So, you were diagnosed with serotonin syndrome due to the Zithromax being taken concurrently with the Zoloft? I had never heard of Zithromax being a medication that could place a person at risk for that.
Avatar m tn I'll try to help. The bottom line is that the STD risk was very low and you probably reduced it still further by taking azithromycin (Zithromax). Such self-treatment really wan't necessary and isn't recommended as a general principle, but undoubtedly caused no harm.
1692704 tn?1307211780 Azithromycin is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are diarrhea or loose stools, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting which may occur in fewer than one in twenty persons who receive azithromycin. Rare side effects include abnormal liver tests, allergic reactions, and nervousness." Hope it gets tolerable soon.
Avatar n tn t know where to turn and the wait is so intense. Also what are the long term side effects of being on so many antibiotics for the last two months? Could that attribute to my healthy symptoms? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
1394684 tn?1280252985 After treatment my doctor called me saying that my test results for chlamydia came back positive. She gave me zithromax(azithromycin) to take, two red pills I took in one single dose,After I lefted the office I experienced the worst diarrhea of my life hours later. Is zithroma 100% effective? Is my chlamydia gone?
Avatar f tn In certain situations your physician may decide that antibiotic therapy is appropriate. When an antibiotic is deemed necessary, Zithromax (azithromycin) is commonly used. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that is effective against M pneumonia. But, if the sinusitis is caused by a fungus or virus azithromycin will not help. In some cases, sinusitis can last for several weeks before it resolves.
Avatar f tn Not an answer buts that 1gram dose of Zithromax taken at once by a 100 lb 35 year old female.
