I took azithromycin single dose of 1g yesterday for diagnosed Chlamydia. Would it hurt me to take a 2g does the following day to cover the possibility of gonnorhea? It wasnt diagnosed but since I have the medicine here, I wanted to take it to really cover my bases but didnt want to overdose or anything. I wish I would have just taken a single 2g dose the first day.

As chance would have it, I have lead most of the research that has been done on azithromycin for syphilis therapy. A number of studies have shown that azithromycin in a dose or 2.0 grams (4 500 mg pills) taken at one time is just as effective as penicillin for syphilis treatment however, there are some cases of treatment failures with azithromycin for syphilis treatment and many of the treatment failures have come from San Francisco where you apparently live.
It has no effect against chlamydia or the other bacteria that cause cervicitis in women and NGU in men, and borderline efficacy at best against gonorrhea and syphilis. The alternative to doxycycline is azithromycin 1.0 g orally in a single dose, which is safe and effective in pregnancy. If gonorrhea is a concern, then it's azithromycin plus a cephalosporin antibiotic, such cefixime or cefpodoxime; or a 2.0 g dose of azithromycin.
The azithromycin you took was a lower dose than what is recommended for NGU. The recommended dose is 2.0 grams once. To be honest, I suspect that the azithromycin you took would cure NGU but it is appropriate to comment that you took less than the recommended dose. There are no data on what the outcome of a lower dose might be.

I have recently been diagnosed with mild NGU although I am still waiting for my Chlamydia and Gonorrhea results. I have been given one single dose of azithromycin (1 g) . It has been four days now, and when i urinate there is still a burning sensation. I have not had any discharge at all. Before (Hours before) I have the burning feeling when I urinate, I also have a feeling of pressure/pain at my pelvis.

I know that the standard treatment for chlamydia is one dose of 1g of azithromycin. However, how effective would two separate doses of 750mg of azithromycin, each 24 hours apart, be? That is a total of 1500mg of azithromycin within a 24 hour period. Thank you!
Thanks Aj, my concern was that a 500mg dose twice a day wouldn't be as strong as a single 1g dose. Does your advice mean that the dosage I was prescribed should be sufficient, i.e. 2 x 500mg doses per day for 3 days, rather than 1 x 1g dose?

yes, have been reading up on this and the 1.0gram dose of azithromycin recommended in one single dose. I actually did take this myself on Friday, but my partner who did not listen to the instructions on dosage, took the above mentioned dosage.
So basically, 1.0grams in a 8hr window, followed by 250mg 24 hrs later and 250mg 24 hrs later to that.
I still feel a tiny bit tingling feeling and can see a slight discharge.
0 g is recommended if azithromycin is used for treatment, the 1.0 g dose would cure at least 90% of infections. Combining the low chance you had gonorrhea plus the effectiveness of the 1 g dose, all is well and you don't need additional therapy. (But if you decide to do it anywya, just take another 1 g dose. You still have lots of azithromycin in your system; a single dose gives a week of drug in the body.

Still freaking out on Tuesday, I googled more and saw where recommened dose was 2 grams in a single dose. I took 2, 1000 mg pills immediately. The chancre seems to be fading, but Im still freaking out. Will the amount of Azitromycin ive taken cure or stop any progression of any STDs? Im married and hope i have not unknowingly given anything to my spouse. This will cause a divorce for sure!
I was also just taking a 5 day dose pack of azithromycin for a sinus infection. I started having heart palpatations as well. I have tachycardia anyways so I didn't really associate it with the medicine. It really started worrying me when my left arm started feeling weak and tingling. This usually also happens when I have an SVT attack but it goes away quickly. This tingling lasted all day. My heart palpatations were more frequent as well.

For months and months I've had trouble with my water works, I've had numerous urine samples, an ultrasound on my kidneys, x rays and I am now waiting on a cystoscopy. We we both prescribed 1000mg of azithromycin, 4 bills at 250mg. After 7 days of taking the medication we engaged in protected vaginal sex (condom). About 2 weeks later we performed unprotected oral sex (both of us giving and receiving) and continued with protected vaginal sex.
4 weeks after taking azithromycin I got re-tested for chlamydia which my results came back as negative. Her's came back as positive.
How common is it for 1000mg azithromycin not to be effective for clamydia?

Treatment with cefixime 400 mg (you did get the dose correct) plus 1.0 gram of azithromycin as a single dose is the CDC recommended therapy for gonorrhea and would reliable cure chlamydia as well. To my knowledge there are no 1.0 gram azithromycin pills and if there were it would be like swallowing a large marble (ugh!!!). All four of the azithromycin pills should be taken at about the same time.

I was very concerned. came home and took 2g dose of azithromycin. 3 days later I have some sensation on the tip of my penis. So I took another 1g of azithromycin along with 1000 mg of dose of cefuroxime. not hurt when I urinate just feels funny. No yellow or funny discharge. This am I have some testicular pain. Can I be over thinking this? Can I go get tested since I took the antiobitics? I did masturbate several times maybe I just overworked the area?
