Azithromycin dosing pneumonia

Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin dosing pneumonia

zithromax

Avatar m tn This is a good question and the answer is that this is almost certainly effective therapy for chlamydial infection, HOWEVER, treatment of chlamydia with azithromycin has not been formally studied using this dosing schedule. Soon after azithromycin was released, it was shown that taking a Z-pack, consisting of 500 mg on day one, followed by several days of 250 mg per day was slightly less effective than a single 1.0 gram dose.
Avatar m tn I have taken antibiotic medication for pneumonia, 7 days of 500 mg azemax (Azithromycin). Could that also clear any std specially syphillis if i had one?
446049 tn?1649005835 Last week, I went to my primary care doctor last week after 3 weeks of cough/congestion. She sent me for chest xrays and started me on Albuterol inhaler, ZPak antibiotic (Azithromycin) for 5 days and mucinex. The xrays came back negative for pneumonia but indicated lungs were minimally hyperinflated. I've never smoked. I feel a bit better but still have the cough.(4 weeks now). Would Erythromycin be a better antibiotic to stop this cough?

Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with pneumonia on 6/2. He was prescribed azithromycin and prednisone, which he has since finished. He was seen earlier in the week by our primary care physician and given a chest xray. Xray came back clear except for pneumonia. He has asthma as well. He now has sharp and constant neck and arm pain. Pain has been going on for two days and is concentrated mostly in the neck, but also on the left side of his forearm; both on his left side.
1692704 tn?1307211780 Azithromycin (except Zmax) can be taken with or without food, but food reduces stomach upset. Avatar f tn When an antibiotic is deemed necessary, Zithromax (azithromycin) is commonly used. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that is effective against M pneumonia. But, if the sinusitis is caused by a fungus or virus azithromycin will not help. In some cases, sinusitis can last for several weeks before it resolves. If the symptoms persist for longer than a few weeks your physician may refer you to an ear, nose, and throat specialist.
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
Avatar m tn So about a week and a half ago I was diagnosed with bronchitis/ walking pneumonia. He said that it was bronchitis but then he found a specific spot and said it was pneumonia in its beginning stages. He gave me the blue inhaler, azithromycin (I'm allergic to penicillin), and told me to take tylenol four times a day. My symptoms leading up to this were dry cough, wheezing, and coughing fits so violent it set off my gag reflex and it has hard to breath.
Avatar f tn she had a chest xray done on thursday and showed pneumonia. She started on amoxicillin on thursday and azithromycin on friday. She had a fever again on monday night after her shower. today she felt warm to the touch but normal rectal and tympanic temp. shouldn't the fevers be gone by now because of the antibiotics? We live near phoenix az and she got tested for valley fever the results are still pending. I'm just worried. I really don't know what to do at this point.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed azithromycin and told to continue with my xopenex and prednisone. I also took cough syrup, sudafed and motrin. Saturday I was significantly worse and over the weekend it esciladed. My temperature would go from 96.2 to 100.5 and back down over a 30min period. Monday I went back to the doctor and she heard "crackling" and a lack of air movement in my lower left lung. She diagnosed me with community acquired pneumonia.
Avatar f tn I had texted with my physician and after being sick for 11 days, he had put me on mild Antibiotics Azithromycin 250mg for 5 days (first day 500mg) saying I probably have walking pneumonia. I had Mycoplasma walking pneumonia 2x before in 2009 already. It slowly improved after taking it and I'm better, but still not healthy and feel it is getting worse again. Every inbreath I feel a cold tickling in the mid chest area and feel I need to suppress a dry cough.
Avatar n tn My doctor thought it was a sinus infection and put him on cefdinir he was having terrible stomach pains so the doctor switched him to azithromycin for the remainder of his perscription. He now complaines of headaches, stomachaches, back pain thoughout the day on and off. Went back to doctor he thinks it's not sinus because of the two antibiotics. He asked me to give him Zyrtec (allergy med.) for two weeks to see if he has allergies.
Avatar f tn m not sure the antibiotic she chose will do the job. He was prescribed Azatril (Azithromycin) for only 4 days. It is shown to be susceptible to that antibiotic, but will only 4 days do for something as serious as MRSA?? I hope someone can help with this, and if anyone could tell me a better antibiotic choice, as well as length of prescription/dosage, it would be greatly appreciated. I want him to go to an infectious disease specialist, but it is hard to find a good doctor where he lives.
Avatar m tn Back in May 2007, I had protected sex with CSW. Next day, I had pink eye and one week later 2 canker sores on soft palate followed by swollen armpits. One month later I had thrush. Six week HIV test negative. Went to Dr. who said I have a upper respiratory infection. Three months later, swollen armpits became pneumonia. Took azithromycin, cleared my lungs & pneumonia, but upper body caught on fire. Developed small bumps on forearms. Got tested for Syphillis, Gono, Chlymadia, HSV 1 & 2.
Avatar n tn I might have worded that funny about "asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around". Pneumonia can also antagonize asthma if the person already has asthma, but pneumonia doesn't actually cause asthma.
354236 tn?1196902187 My husband was diagnosed with bronchitis in the airways on Sunday. Today he's worse. He's coughing harder, severe chest pain, feverish, and the part that scares me is that he has this sharp, stabbing pain in the middle of his lower back, he say's it feels like his kidneys but we are not sure. He's seen 3 different Docs since this started about 3 and a half weeks ago, and none of them has done a chest X Ray.
Avatar n tn drink plenty of fluids, if you feel worse go to the doc I just got over it and they gave me Azithromycin and codeine cough med..
Avatar f tn Day after i felt discomfort, frequent urinating and top of my penis (entrance) is swallen and red sometimes. Avatar f tn I took one cipro 500 pill and then decided I needed to see my doctor. I took that at 5PM. My doctor prescribed prednisone and azithromycin. I have checked and seen that there are interactions in taking these drugs together. How long until the cipro 500 is out of my system so I can begin the other antibiotics and prednizone? Thank you.

Avatar m tn You may also have a secondary bacterial infection which is a very common occurrence or Bacterial Pneumonia. Your Doctors office is probably closed for the weekend. Do you have a walk in clinic or something similar near by? It would be wise to try another round of antibiotics. Ciprofloxicin or Azithromycin both seem to work well when others won't. You should also ask for some cough medication if you are not coughing up anything, preferably with codeine.
Avatar n tn Yes, your son could have a pneumonia. IF you are not content with what your physician has recommended go to the ER. Pneumonia can be viral or bacteria. If it is viral then the antibiotic will not do anything for the virus. However, having a fever this high and long deserves more investigation like blood cultures or sputum sample. I would continue to call family doctor or go to ER. Good luck. Thank you for your question.
Avatar m tn I am concerned about possible drug interactions between the antibiotic azithromycin and the two heart medications warfarin and amiodarone. My relative has brief history of heart problems span one and a half years (though the underlying heart condition itself appears to be congenital). Rhythm problems resulted in CHF, hospitalization, and later diagnosis and heart surgery. Subsequent dysrhythmia and CHF has been prevented adequately with medication.
