Common Questions and Answers about Azithromycin and pregnancy category

zithromax

Avatar f tn s answer Azithromycin (Zithromax®) is considered a pregnancy Category B medicine by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which means that it has not been studied in pregnant women. However, when studied in pregnant animals, azithromycin showed no negative effects on unborn babies. and i'm assuming that your dr knows you are pregnant or nursing?
Avatar f tn I picked up a food borne illness while in MX in September & my doctor put menon an antibiotic.. it was azithromycin & it was a pregnancy category B (no evidence of risk).I don't know if it treats typhoid though & what I had was not typhoid. Avatar f tn Pregnancy Category D is a stronger warning than a pregnancy Category C classification. However, a pregnancy Category D medicine may still be given to a pregnant woman if the health care provider believes that the benefits to the woman outweigh the possible risks to the unborn child. Klonopin was given a pregnancy Category D rating due to the problems it caused in animal studies.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your stress and anxiety is probably a mixture of hormones and just the whole experience of pregnancy and anxiety that comes with it. Please stay away from medication until you have your baby. And remember anything you have in your body, will transmit through breast milk. If you have post pardum depression, then definitely take medication (and therapy) if you need it.
1144050 tn?1261292610 Ask your doctor for sure. I just did a search on it and turns out someone had a similar question on this site in 2007: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Addiction-Substance-Abuse/Can-Oxycodone-be-taken-during-pregnancy/show/52784 and this was one of the responses: Actually, it's a category C, not B. It is unknown if it is safe or not.
Avatar n tn You really need to consult your dr or even your pharmacist to get accurate information on what meds are safe for you and your baby ahead of time. Some anxiety meds (i.e. Klonopin and Xanax) are category 'D' - not recommended for pregnant women. Good luck!
849762 tn?1288184748 The temps will generally stay in the higher post-o category throughout pregnancy. Other than a few random highs and lows, I don't think it will start to drop at any certain time.
Avatar f tn The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses a pregnancy category system to classify the possible risks to a fetus when a specific medicine is taken during pregnancy. Pregnancy Category C is given to medicines that show side effects to the fetus in animal studies, but no human studies in pregnant women have been done.

Avatar f tn I just had a few positive pregnancy tests and I haven't seen a doctor yet. I have awful allergies and i usually take allegra. What allergy meds are safe to use during pregnancy?
454221 tn?1259445739 My understanding is that Prilosec had not been assigned a category for pregnancy by the FDA because its effects during pregnancy are unknown. Not taking the Prilosec until you have spoken about this with your doctor on Thursday as a wise idea - in the meantime, you can take tums (or a generic equivalent) to help w/ the heartburn. I hope you feel a little better soon.

Avatar f tn The unisom is a category A and benedryl is a category b. Both considered safe but A is safest and down to D is unsafe. Zofran is also a category b and phenegren which I have had too is a category c. So i quit taking it unless I really can't stop throwing up.
Avatar n tn 35 and over puts us in a different category as we are monitored more closely. Since you are carrying multiples they will monitor even closer. CONGRATS!!

338416 tn?1420045702 Hi, I'm sure you have done your research, and I just wanted to say I wish you the very best....to both you and your Husband. I was 38 when I had my youngest, and the best was I never even knew I was pregnant until I was 7 months (thought I had fibroids .......LOL) Went to the Dr's as my stomach was so big, I hadn't changed my diet at all and I was still taking all my meds etc.
Avatar f tn I used to work for a biotech company (and one of our drugs was rated Pregnancy Category X). This category applies to pregnancy specifically, and means the risks outweigh the benefits and should NOT be given to pregnant women. Please see links below. I also have been freaking out because my dr. has me on estradiol and I've begged him to take me off them because of these concerns. I've considered going off of them on my own.
Avatar f tn I took doxycycline also, but she wants me to take azithromycin also. She wants me to take it for a week on and a week off for a month.
