Common Questions and Answers about Avonex biogen idec

avonex

Avatar m tn m unable to explain, I sadly have lost mine and am looking to find a replacement. Biogen Idec has not been any help, and I recently discovered the groups like MSWorld disallow postings along these lines. It's just a little bit of plastic, and it helps me quite a lot! Seems more than silly that it would be so difficult! Thanks for your help!!!

Avatar n tn You will definitely need to contact the company for financial help, because unless you are quite wealthy- you can't afford to pay cash. You also can't purchase just one u=injection. My pharmacy paperwork said that one month cost $4300 this time. I've seen it as low as $3800. With insurance, I paid $35.00- at least until they change the insurance coverage. There are programs available out there. One place to look is www.needymeds.com.
4461995 tn?1357955108 There is a program at Biogen Idec, the makers of ysabri, call ActiveAccess. It is the $$ help program. I would suggest you contact them directly. More information on the program is here: http://www.tysabri.com/tysabri-cost-and-support.
Avatar f tn I would call my neuro pronto and/or biogen/idec, the makers of Avonex. I think they have someone on call to answer questions. Even the place where you get your Rx should have someone who can answer your question. Best wishes! I sure hope it clears up soon! That must be miserable!
1831849 tn?1383228392 First is some good news for Avonex and Rebif users. It looks like Biogen-Idec is going to be seeking marketing approval for monthly dosing later this year. http://www.medpagetoday.com/Neurology/MultipleSclerosis/36993?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=medpage%2Biphone%20app Second is kind of a double edged sword. The FDA has approved over the counter sale of Oxytrol, a drug aimed at overactive bladder. They have approved it for sale to women bu not men.
Avatar f tn I had forgotten that Plegridy even exists, so I looked it up for more info. Turns out it is made by Biogen Idec, who also make and market Avonex and Tysabri. It is a kind of interferon, and is administered via injection every two weeks. The doses are stepped up, with full levels reached after several weeks.
1831849 tn?1383228392 I saw this today. Biogen-Idec has submitted BG-12 for FDA approval. They are requesting a 4 month, rather than 10 month, approval process. http://www.masshightech.com/stories/2012/02/27/daily10-Biogen-sends-oral-MS-drug-to-FDA.
Avatar f tn ) Also, Avonex is only once a week. Biogen Idec, maker of Avonex, is also offering Plegridy, which sounds exactly like Avonex but maybe shallower shot, and I believe only once every 2 weeks. You might read up on this. My neuro is not big on Gilenya, because of possible cardio effects, though for me that could be age-related, as I'm now about 500 :-) I don't know much about Aubagio, and it isn't often discussed here.
1831849 tn?1383228392 Plegridy, Biogen IDEC's new version of Avonex, has been delayed by the FDA. They have extended the review period without asking for additional studies. Plegridy is Avonex on a less frequent dosing schedule. http://www.reuters.
Avatar f tn ve not had any personal experience with it, but Biogen-Idec has a preety good track record with things like co-pay assistance. THere program is called MS Actuve SOurce and you can get more info here. http://www.msactivesource.com/ms-support-and-community/ms-patient-support/cost-and-insurance.
739070 tn?1338603402 Conclusions Positive status with respect to anti–JC virus antibodies, prior use of immunosuppressants, and increased duration of natalizumab treatment, alone or in combination, were associated with distinct levels of PML risk in natalizumab-treated patients with multiple sclerosis. 333672 tn?1273792789 And yes, Biogen Idec obviously had their ducks in a row. Considering they had hoped to have this approved last year and it was delayed until now - I imagine they had lots going on in the background.
572651 tn?1530999357 An overview of what Biogen Idec will be unveiling this week I have copied from this source: http://www.pharmiweb.com/pressreleases/pressrel.asp?ROW_ID=57399 "Key study results to be presented include: BG-12: Detailed results from CONFIRM (Comparator and an Oral Fumarate in RRMS), the second pivotal Phase 3 study evaluating the investigational oral compound in people with relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS), will be presented for the first time.

"BG-12 met the CONFIRM study's primary endpoint by significantly reducing annualized relapse rate (ARR) by 44 percent for BID (p< 0.0001) and by 51 percent for TID (p< 0.0001) versus placebo at two years. The CONFIRM study's reference comparator, glatiramer acetate (GA; 20 mg subcutaneous daily injection), reduced the ARR by 29 percent (p< 0.
572651 tn?1530999357 ) By Thomas Gryta Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- A European panel has started a review of the controversial Multiple Sclerosis drug Tysabri, sold by Biogen Idec Inc. (BIIB) and Elan Corp. PLC (ELN), citing a much higher number of rare brain infections than previously disclosed.
Avatar m tn Biogen, the makers of Avonex, offers financial aid for those who cannot afford the drug. Call them at 800-456-2255. The other DMD drug makers offer aid as well. So a site with discount coupons shouldn't even be necessary for a DMD, and I would be wary of it for anything else. I'm curious what the site is, and why they wouldn't answer your questions.
Avatar m tn I just heard a story on National Public Radio that there are now clinical trials for MS drugs being conducted in India (China, too) by Biogen Idec, one of the drug manufacturers. You might ask around or check the clinicaltrials.gov website. If you read the headlines you know what a mess we are in here with healthcare costs - it would be very expensive to pay for yourself. I hope the link Deb gave you will have some positive news for your situation.
572651 tn?1530999357 The Biogen Idec lunch talk I went to today was very interesting and quite a different approach than the usual tons of slides about Tysabri. It focused on what those numbers in clinical trials really mean. Of course it was directed at explaining why the Avonex number and Tysabri numbers are what they appear to be, but it really got me thinking.
488198 tn?1493875092 No big surprise there. The message also said that Biogen would be bringing the Avonex Pen into the market about May 1, and that of course their www.avonex.com website would be updated as things progress.
2015036 tn?1332997788 Some of you probably received the same email I did. Biogen sent me an email saying they could now help people get financing, even if you're on a Medicare plan. So far, only Biogen is working with Medicare patients. There's a lot of paperwork involved, but it look like I'm finally going to start a DMD again. All of Biogen's MS meds are available for the program: Avonex Plegridy Tysabri Tecfidera It's worth calling about.
1475492 tn?1332884167 Torikat, are you taking Avonex or Rebif? Avonex is injected into muscle and (I believe) only approved for self-injection using the thigh. Sidesteps, I do think you should (at a minimum) call the nurse who does your injection teaching. A review of technique and sites never hurts. With an exam and live review the nurse might be able to discover the reason you have had problems since starting to use the auto-injecting technique.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have been taking Avonex for 6 yrs on and off. I stopped for 2 yrs when I had my third child and have been back on it for the past 2 1/2 yrs straight. I was diagnosed in 2005 and have been fortunate to have little to no changes in my MRIs. That is until I recently experienced vertigo which triggered an order for some MRIs. I have a new active lesion in my brain and one in my spine. My doctor thinks tysabri would be a great next choice.
