Avatar f tn Well, A1C relates to the average sugar level over 3ish months, not actual calories. You really need to take a look at your average blood sugar readings over that time. How many finger sticks are you doing a day? My history - been a Type 1 for 37ish years - as a teen had an A1c around 15 (Yikes) but have managed to get that down to a 7.5-8 lately. And my doctor gets peeved because I'm higher than 7! Why can't they be happy for long term progress?
1348086 tn?1370783185 What test does your doctor use? If it is a random blood sugar it is virtually useless. Fasting blood sugar is better but still wouldn't catch it if you were spiking after food. The best is to get an A1C which is an average of 3 months worth of blood sugars. You can also get these at a pharmacy and do them at home.
Avatar f tn I had to go to the emergency room again last month and again, they did blood work. My glucose level was only 88. I am just wondering if I should be looking into this. Could I be diabetic? They never said anything about the high level. I found out when I went to pick up my medical records from the hospital. Also, both visits were in the morning so I hadn't eaten anything since the night before. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Avatar n tn Here is some more information on blood glucose ranges and blood sugar testing for you from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Be-Blood-Sugar-Savvy/1777 If you enter enough data over enough days, our app gives you an average A1C -- this is your 3 month average amount of glucose in your blood. It's likely a better measure than the daily averages from your meter, as Mindmaster points out. Here's a little more about the A1C: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn Could he be running high at night for his average to be up? I also know that at times he does check his sugar before bedtime and it's in the 60's. Is there anything he can do to avoid going on oral agents and insulin? Also, what do you think about cinnamon and other herbs?
Avatar n tn Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
Avatar m tn Your doctor should test your HbA1c. This test gives an average blood sugar over the past approximately 3 months. Normal HBA1C is 4.3 - 4.6, with < 5.0 still being acceptable. If your HBA1C is 6 - 7 your blood sugars are too high. If it is above 7 you will be officially diagnosed as diabetic. Diet, exercise and weight loss are all a critical part of management of diabetes.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to have diabetes without having high blood sugar? I've never had a glucose level over 90 on any blood test. I've had to have labs done several times throughout the last couple of years. It's usually 70-80. Once 90. Never anything else. I have to go in tomorrow for testing because my urine has had a strange odor. I don't want to say it's sweet but it's kinda similar. I've never been overweight and have never had a recorded high glucose level.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER not long ago and I was told I had very high blood sugar, I had not eaten anything for more than 8 hours other than toast.

Avatar f tn Hello, fasting blood sugar in the range of 120 - 130 puts you firmly in diabetic territory, as does your hba1c of 7.4 which corresponds to an average blood sugar level of about 180. These levels would already require medications. Consider that normal fasting should be below 90 and normal hba1c is < 5.0. Given your height and weight, you are not overweight. Further you have no family history of diabetes. Therefore, I believe you should be evaluated for adult onset type 1 diabetes.

Avatar f tn I've been monitoring my blood sugar because my Hgba1c has been creeping up over the last couple of years from 5.6 to 5.8 and the last reading was 5.9. Yesterday I ate a salad and some brown rice for dinner at 7:30 and checked my blood sugar at 10:00 and it was 76. This morning at 6:00 it was 91. I'm trying to keep fasting levels, especially first morning, in the low 80's and don't understand what happened overnight to bring my blood sugar up to 91.
