After trying Doxy, Azithromycin, and Flagyl, the only antibiotic that finally worked was Avelox. The question now is what I should treat my partner with. I know from my experience that my NGU was passed sexually, and she needs to get treated before we can have sex again. The problem, is that she said she is allergic to Avelox. Another problem, is that since it is NGU, we cannot test to confirm if the bacteria is cured, and she is also asymptomatic.

I recently engaged in unprotected vaginal sex with a woman of unknown status and in the following week developed symptoms of mild dysuria, penile itching, and a clear mucus-like discharge that became cloudy briefly. I went for an STD panel where I was diagnosed with a chlamydial infection (all other tests were negative). I was prescribed 1g azithromycin single dose, however after 2 weeks the symptoms didn't resolve.
Levaquin (probably) would have cured gonorrhea.
But Dallas is right, it's not recommended because of resistance. It's a not a cephalosporin, it's a flourquinolone, and those are not currently a drug of choice for gonorrhea.
It is interesting too that the Avelox failed, as it's an even stronger antibiotic than Levaquin. However, it is also a flourquinolone.
If I were you, I'd get a gonorrhea test just to rule that out.
I have had a round of Avelox a few weeks ago and recently Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days and still have discharge. Question,
wouldn't these antibiotics be affective against NGU, Chlamydia or Gonnorrhea? Thanks for the help.
I have tendonitis as a result of taking Avelox. Is this a condition that can be treated like other tendonitis and what is the prognisis?

made mouth swab and found Staph Aureus 4th levevel of growth or smth like that and E.coli 2. Was prescribed antibiotics named Avelox. Went through five day course of the Avelox. Noticed strange muscle twitching all over body and flu like symptoms, no increased temperature, basically weakness as the main symptom.
Went to ENT month after taking Avelox for another mouth swab, no Staph, no E.
Ciprofloxacin, Avelox, Levaquin, norefloxacin, etc) cause, instead of choosing to diagnose each symptom individually?
Avelox... I went yesterday and saw a lung specialist, he calmed me down and told me that i only have a little pneumonia in my lower left side it's nothing to be worried about. It's the bronchitis that's causing a lot of pain in my chest and back that I did not have prior to the antibiotics.
All seemed like it took care of the gonorrea but couple days after still had thick white discharge do back to std clinic and prescribed flagyl and doxycycline ran the course for a week meanwhile no sex has been done. Still then had clear discharge coming out with occasional cloudy discharge so went to see a urologist and got prescribed ciprofloxin and Zithromax. Once again after running the course same symptoms appeared again .
I recently developed an upper respitory infection and bronchitis and one of the medications was AVELOX. Within 3 days the severe pain in my shoulders was GONE. How is this possible? Was it a viral infection causing my pains and if so could it be a form of Lyme Disease?
The problem persisted and it seem to show a lack of flow when i was peeing and it also took alot of push to get the pee even when i knew i had to go. coinsidentally, I was given Avelox for my ear infection a day later. I have been on avelox for 5 days now it still burns when i pee, the tip of the penis is swollen and the hole is red and swollen. 2 days ago i went to the urgent care and got tested for my urine sample and that showed up clear and I called today and they stated the std of gon.
Welcome back to the Forum. Performance of cunnilingus on an infected partner rarely leads to transmission of infection and even if it did, cough is not a typical sign of any STD. Further, having been treated with azithromycin, if your cough was due to a bacterial cause (STD or otherwise,), the azithromycin should have cured it. I suspect that your persistent cough is more likely to be a coincidence rather than directly related to your performance of cunnilingus on your partner.

treated with doxycycline by end of june for 1 wk. started on avelox end of july for 1 wk. then given levaquin for a wk. by last wk doc said she didn't think was infection cause levaquin shoudl have killed anything, even though I was still having gobs of green phlegm coming down the back of my throat and out of my lungs. she sent me to the asthma and allergy clinic where i was tested for 27 diff allergies all negative for.

Go to Dr. the day after i'm done with amox, tested G/C..(Res=NEG) Get 1g of ceftriaxone IM and 1.5g zithromx 500mg/3days. sympt go away. @that point(6/4) wife(asymptomatic) gets same treatment.
-5.5 weeks go by(no sex) feeling fine except anal feels weird. Around 7/14 finally have sex w/wife.
~ 3-3.5 weeks later,start feeling same testicular pain.
i did have some antibiotics left over in my bad from step throat(amoxicillan) and i do have some avelox..... i took all the amoxicillan over the past 2 1/2 days... but im out... i still feel a slight sting in the tip of my penis...
do you have any advice for me... it would be greatly appretiated....
Went to see a couple of doctors and they think it is sinus infection - so went on two anti-biotic treatments (Augmentin 10 days - which did not work, then Avelox 14 days). Just finished the Avelox course, but still having some post nasal drip and sore throat. But generally feeling better. Question: How would you assess the risk of this encounter for STD's and HIV in particular? Does female ejaculate fluid contain the HIV virus? What about other STD's?
I had pneumonia after contracting the flu in July. Was treated with Avelox and, when symptoms came back, Azithromycin.
I still have a cough, which seems, at times, to improve and then recur. The cough is not severe, though there is a sensation of irritation, of needing to expel something in my chest, left side. I have wheezing upon forceful exhalation.
A chest x-ray on 7/19/09 showed "Prominent interstitial markings left midlung anteriorly.
I took them but the itching and hair pulling sensations persisted. On March 17, he prescribed Avelox 400 mg to taken 1x/day for five days. It was ineffective as to these symptoms.
It would seem that the antibiotics have killed off any bacterial diseases, and based on the lack of visual manifestations of the itching on my skin, I wonder if I don't have a fungal infection.
