Common Questions and Answers about Avelox side effects moxifloxacin

avelox

Avatar m tn It would be helpful to know how this all started? Unprotected vaginal or oral sex? Have they tried culturing the discharge or urine? There are a couple other antibiotics that can be prescribed if NGU is persistent, Erythromycine or Moxifloxacin. However, I would only use Moxifloxacin as a last resort, as it can have some very harsh and lasting side effects. In addition, if it's fungal related (Trich) they can also treat you with an alternative regimen of metronizadole.
Avatar n tn A recent study was done to show that Myco was only erradicated by 85% of those on the Azithro regiment described, however Avelox ( Moxifloxacin) killed Myco in all cases. Routine is to try described Azithro regimen first and if symtoms still exist Moxifloxacin. Why? I guess so that Myco doesn't become Moxifloxacin resistant. Save the bugs, kill the patient kind of thing. I say take the 400mg a day X 10 day regiment of Moxifloxacin and help yourself.
Avatar m tn But the doctor mentioned that my white blood cell count is slightly higher than normal ( WBC count taken from the swabs, not from my blood work) and mentioned that there might be an infection so she prescribed Avelox (Moxifloxacin), 4 x 400mg once daily. The background is, I am Chinese male, been with my girlfriend for about a year and both of us have been loyal and we were both asymptomatic before this event.
Avatar m tn I also had extremely painful urination and discharge. There were also major side effects from the anti-biotics I took trying to get rid of it. Much of the current research on NGU, Prostatiis and PID is actually pointing at m. genitalium as a cause when patients tests negative for other traditional infections and m.genitalium is quickly gaining attention for it's ability to mutate and form resistance to all anti-biotics.
1373852 tn?1307843048 I wake up at night wheezy, coughing up white or clear phlem . I also have chest heaviness and itchiness in the chest area. I feel like there is phlem stuck in my throat and my nose feels stuffed. When it is hot out I get these same symptoms.could this be asthmatic bronchitis or something else. I took antibiotics and they didn't help so the doctor gave me avelox(a stronger antibiotic)I am afraid to take it because there are so many dangerous side effects.
Avatar f tn Avelox... I went yesterday and saw a lung specialist, he calmed me down and told me that i only have a little pneumonia in my lower left side it's nothing to be worried about. It's the bronchitis that's causing a lot of pain in my chest and back that I did not have prior to the antibiotics.
Avatar m tn the other drugs no they wont work, there are resistant strains in the population now, avelox is the next drug as a treatment it works very well but dont self medicateuse a good urologist
Avatar m tn Welcome to the HIV forum. I'll try to help. Bottom line: You were not at significant risk of HIV from this exposure. Don't worry about it. The notion of female "ejaculation" is somewhat controversial, but my understanding is that most sex experts believe there is no such thing. Most "ejaculations" probably are urine, which is not infectious for HIV.
Avatar m tn MG is only treatable (with eradication results) by Avelox (Moxifloxacin) or Arthiromyacin. It's a "no cell wall" bacterial infection and VERY difficult to catch without a DNA test with it. Most other antibiotics work by attacking the cell walls which is worse than useless against MG.
Avatar f tn m curious as to what happened with your side effects from Avelox. Did they eventually go away.
Avatar n tn Sure, there are lots of antibiotics. If you're allergic to azithromycin, you also probably can't take clarithromycin and erythromycin. And if doxycycline doesn't work, there's probably no used in taking tetracycline. So that does eliminate a lot of them. If the doxycycline isn't working, either your tests are consistently false positives, or you have a resistant strain. It's not typical, but it does happen.
Avatar m tn Subsequent efforts could include moxifloxacin (trade name Avelox), to cover Mycoplasma genitalium, which is a possible cause in this situation. However, you may find that no antibiotics are helpful, if the problem is noninfectious. But the good news is that this sort of problem is not believed to be harmful in the long run, either to you or your sex partner(s). I think those comments answer all three of your questions. Good luck with it.
Avatar m tn Hello doctor, Just wanted to let you know that I sent my sputum for analysis and the culture came back positive for Staphylococcus Aureus. It is resistant to erythromycin so I suppose that's the reason why the azythromycin did nothing. Yesterday my doctor gave me Avelox (moxifloxacin) so hopefully this will help me recover. It's been a month already and I'm still sick.
Avatar m tn In addition, it is now recommended that metronidazole or tinidazole also be given, to cover the possibility of trichomonas, which can be difficult to diagnose, especially in men. For continued persistence or recurrence thereafter, the drug moxifloxacin (Avelox) is sometimes used, to cover the possibility of an infection with Mycoplasma genitalium, which can be resistant to both doxy and azithromycin.
Avatar f tn they put me on a 2 wk regimen of avelox. i am not having any side effects from it, but infection continues to get worse. at this point i feel no end in sight for this infection. it is feeding off the antibiotics and in my mind i will never get well. and i am sure with being on 4 sets of antibiotics, this bug has just grown resistant to anything and will kill me. i don not relish a long suffocating phegmy death. any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I am freaking out and i can not sleep at all... do you know how long the drug will be in my body..? the side effects are pretty bad and i had nightmares when i fell asleep..
Avatar n tn I am having the same issue with NGU. tested for everything- negative. did the same- azitro, doxy, shot of rocephin, flagyl. don't know what else to do. thinking of trying moxi but heard it has side effects. i want to get diagnosed with a pcr test for any mycoplasma but my doctor doesn't offer it. i've been feeling sick for months, im sure its something to do with a bacteria because it happened immediately after unprotected oral sex. let me know what happens with you.

Avatar f tn I was reading about Avelox and it mentioned serious heart rhythm side effects - a rare heart called prolongation of QT interval. I am scared to death to take this. I did disclose to the doctor that I suffer from SVT but she didn't mention side effects or warnings. My question is.....has anyone had any reactions to this antibiotic? Are there any "heart friendly" antibiotics out there that I could ask to substitute?
