Synercid is the only medicine in the US that is close to Pristinamycin but is not allowed for use for anything but strep and staph infections, plus it has to be injected daily by IV, which makes it impossible to get legally.
ve ever had in my life. I took Avelox for 10 days which finally got be past it BUT once I stopped taking the Avelox I developed wheezing and a cough and pain when I tried to take a deep breath. This lasted for, oh, six weeks or so. Long enough to have me VERY concerned that I might have a chronic condition. Six weeks, at least to me, is a LONG time to go and not get any better. But then, three days ago, I had probably my worst day of coughing yet. And the next day...I was better.
I don't think the doxycycline is working either. I'm 5 days into it and still feel awful. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have this forever. I"m allergic to the family of drugs that include Leviquin and Avelox so I can't take anything else but Zithromax and Doxycycline. I still feel as crummy today as the day I started the Doxy.
1) In your medical view is there any reason for concern, i.e. could mycoplasma genitalium still be an issue after the original medication & if so at what stage would it have been eliminated?
2) After the initial medication (1g zithromax) I had unprotected oral sex with my partner but this was after the GUM clinic said there was nothing to worry about (even though i wasn't called back by them). Would there be any danger to my partner from this? All sex since then was protected.
But the doctor mentioned that my white blood cell count is slightly higher than normal ( WBC count taken from the swabs, not from my blood work) and mentioned that there might be an infection so she prescribed Avelox (Moxifloxacin), 4 x 400mg once daily.
The background is, I am Chinese male, been with my girlfriend for about a year and both of us have been loyal and we were both asymptomatic before this event.
I have had a round of Avelox a few weeks ago and recently Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days and still have discharge. Question,
wouldn't these antibiotics be affective against NGU, Chlamydia or Gonnorrhea? Thanks for the help.
After trying Doxy, Azithromycin, and Flagyl, the only antibiotic that finally worked was Avelox. The question now is what I should treat my partner with. I know from my experience that my NGU was passed sexually, and she needs to get treated before we can have sex again. The problem, is that she said she is allergic to Avelox. Another problem, is that since it is NGU, we cannot test to confirm if the bacteria is cured, and she is also asymptomatic.
I have tendonitis as a result of taking Avelox. Is this a condition that can be treated like other tendonitis and what is the prognisis?

Avelox... I went yesterday and saw a lung specialist, he calmed me down and told me that i only have a little pneumonia in my lower left side it's nothing to be worried about. It's the bronchitis that's causing a lot of pain in my chest and back that I did not have prior to the antibiotics.
I recently developed an upper respitory infection and bronchitis and one of the medications was AVELOX. Within 3 days the severe pain in my shoulders was GONE. How is this possible? Was it a viral infection causing my pains and if so could it be a form of Lyme Disease?
Subsequent efforts could include moxifloxacin (trade name Avelox), to cover Mycoplasma genitalium, which is a possible cause in this situation.
However, you may find that no antibiotics are helpful, if the problem is noninfectious. But the good news is that this sort of problem is not believed to be harmful in the long run, either to you or your sex partner(s).

treated with doxycycline by end of june for 1 wk. started on avelox end of july for 1 wk. then given levaquin for a wk. by last wk doc said she didn't think was infection cause levaquin shoudl have killed anything, even though I was still having gobs of green phlegm coming down the back of my throat and out of my lungs. she sent me to the asthma and allergy clinic where i was tested for 27 diff allergies all negative for.

Currently I have 6 days remaining on the doxycycline and 9 days remaining on the avelox. For continued persistence or recurrence thereafter, the drug moxifloxacin (Avelox) is sometimes used, to cover the possibility of an infection with Mycoplasma genitalium, which can be resistant to both doxy and azithromycin.
So if doxy is the only treatment you have had, you should now be treated with azithromycin (1.0 g, single dose) and tinidazole (Tindamax, 2.0 g single dose) (or metronidazole, but it's probably less reliable than tinidazole).
The doctor just called me to inform me that I tested positive for Mycoplasma, but negative for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis.
I've since noticed that my urine is sometimes cloudy and if I pee into a glass there seem to be small particles floating around. Also, I don't know whether it's because I'm paranoid now, but I feel like my groin area and lower abdomen are a little bit swollen.
