Hello Drs,
I recently engaged in unprotected vaginal sex with a woman of unknown status and in the following week developed symptoms of mild dysuria, penile itching, and a clear mucus-like discharge that became cloudy briefly. I went for an STD panel where I was diagnosed with a chlamydial infection (all other tests were negative). I was prescribed 1g azithromycin single dose, however after 2 weeks the symptoms didn't resolve.
Ciprofloxacin, Avelox, Levaquin, norefloxacin, etc) cause, instead of choosing to diagnose each symptom individually?
I have had a round of Avelox a few weeks ago and recently Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days and still have discharge. Question,
wouldn't these antibiotics be affective against NGU, Chlamydia or Gonnorrhea? Thanks for the help.
After trying Doxy, Azithromycin, and Flagyl, the only antibiotic that finally worked was Avelox. The question now is what I should treat my partner with. I know from my experience that my NGU was passed sexually, and she needs to get treated before we can have sex again. The problem, is that she said she is allergic to Avelox. Another problem, is that since it is NGU, we cannot test to confirm if the bacteria is cured, and she is also asymptomatic.
I have tendonitis as a result of taking Avelox. Is this a condition that can be treated like other tendonitis and what is the prognisis?
Avelox... I went yesterday and saw a lung specialist, he calmed me down and told me that i only have a little pneumonia in my lower left side it's nothing to be worried about. It's the bronchitis that's causing a lot of pain in my chest and back that I did not have prior to the antibiotics.
I took them but the itching and hair pulling sensations persisted. On March 17, he prescribed Avelox 400 mg to taken 1x/day for five days. It was ineffective as to these symptoms.
It would seem that the antibiotics have killed off any bacterial diseases, and based on the lack of visual manifestations of the itching on my skin, I wonder if I don't have a fungal infection.
I recently developed an upper respitory infection and bronchitis and one of the medications was AVELOX. Within 3 days the severe pain in my shoulders was GONE. How is this possible? Was it a viral infection causing my pains and if so could it be a form of Lyme Disease?
On the 19th I started itching in the urethra and on the tip of my penis so I took 1g of z max on the 19th, another 1g on the 20th and 400mg of avelox on the 19th, 20th, and 21st. The itching subsided but then came back with a vengence in the urethra on the 23rd. On the 24th I started having a crooked stream ( couldnt keep it in the toilet - a spray) and a sharp pain in the urethra on the right side (seemed like 1/2' into in the urethra from the tip ).
treated with doxycycline by end of june for 1 wk. started on avelox end of july for 1 wk. then given levaquin for a wk. by last wk doc said she didn't think was infection cause levaquin shoudl have killed anything, even though I was still having gobs of green phlegm coming down the back of my throat and out of my lungs. she sent me to the asthma and allergy clinic where i was tested for 27 diff allergies all negative for.

After two days of suffering ithcing in my urethra, followed by a frequent urge to urinate, I began to take some left over Avelox (400 mg) that I had on hand. Trust me, I know this was dumb. 36 hours after I began taking the Avelox (one dose on Friday night at 5:30 pm and one on Saturday at 5:00 pm) I had a swab for gonorrhea and chlamydia (1:45 pm on Sunday). The test results just came back negative. Is it possible that the Avelox ruined the test results?
A few weeks ago, after unprotected intercourse, I started having itching and discomfort at head of my penis. Very slight discharge. No real pain, just discomfort. Urine dribbles out after finishing. Had a battery of urine and blood STD tests. All negative.
Doctor thought it might be prosthititis. Took Cipro for 14 days. No change in symptoms. Went on Azythromiacin for 5 day dose. No real change in symptoms.
Went to see a couple of doctors and they think it is sinus infection - so went on two anti-biotic treatments (Augmentin 10 days - which did not work, then Avelox 14 days). Just finished the Avelox course, but still having some post nasal drip and sore throat. But generally feeling better. Question: How would you assess the risk of this encounter for STD's and HIV in particular? Does female ejaculate fluid contain the HIV virus? What about other STD's?
I had pneumonia after contracting the flu in July. Was treated with Avelox and, when symptoms came back, Azithromycin.
I still have a cough, which seems, at times, to improve and then recur. The cough is not severe, though there is a sensation of irritation, of needing to expel something in my chest, left side. I have wheezing upon forceful exhalation.
A chest x-ray on 7/19/09 showed "Prominent interstitial markings left midlung anteriorly.

From then to now I’ve been on Avelox(400mg/ for a total of 4 weeks) w/ only until now seeing min. improvement. Urologist did DRE=soft and bit boggy. Cystoscopy=inflamed prost. CATscan..ok
Wife took 10Avelox. Still have inflamed testes, general pain, very little discomfort after urination, yellowish semen, poking/itchy anus feeling, but no more lowr back pain. Standing aggravates and laying down/sitting eases pain. Ur and Dr. said stop AB and both of us return 3wks for tests.
First i tried using Zinc based creams(A+D ointment) to treat the area, later antibotics (Keflex, Avelox, Augemintin), steroids, and anti-fungals (OTC creams, nystatin cream, Nizoral 200 mg x 14 days). None of these work, the best effect was the nystatin cream but it only seemed to treat the symptoms but the rash only seems to get worse.
Can someone help before this rash takes over my brain and i turn into a clown.
I still am breaking out with the red blood things on my skin,rash and bumps. The ENT gave me avelox to take incase I still had it, not sure if it was that or just everything coming together, I couldn't sleep though I had took my anxiety medicine. I kept shaking and getting that cold feeling as I do at time when I eat and sometimes it just hits me. My head was hurting badly , couldn't adjust my eyes, and my nose was bleeding. I went to the ER once again..
I am 39, female in pretty good shape (I run and work out regularly) I came down with Pneumonia after I had visited both the Bahamas and France in February and March. I came back from the bahamas with a cough, I got really bad in Paris and then seemed to get better when I came back home.
Then a couple weeks later, another round of Doxy, then Metrondinazole and azythromicin. I was then in port, got a digital rectal exam, (very painful) and was prescribed Avelox. I took it for 35 days, and things were well, more or less. Back in port, went to resupply on avelox, they didnt have it, doc put me on cipro/trinidazole combo. Now a week later and the pain is back in my urethra.
Could this be episodes of Herpetic urethritis?
Yeah, some docs don't like the drugs in that family of abx (Levaquin, Avelox, Cipro) as eventually they're going to get a patient with a bad reaction. Nothing like a ruptured achilles heel requiring surgery, crutches, and rehab to **** off a patient! ;)
I just did my second set of blood tests today, and I see my LLMD on Wed. I have slowly declining kidney function, but I don't know if that's related to the Levaquin or what.
