I went for an STD panel where I was diagnosed with a chlamydial infection (all other tests were negative). I was prescribed 1g azithromycin single dose, however after 2 weeks the symptoms didn't resolve. Since that time I have been prescribed two rounds of metronidazole 2g single dose twice and doxycycline 100 mg bid for 14 days (symptoms hadn't abated, provider considered trich, and mycoplasm as possible culprits). I was also put on avelox 400 mg for 10 days as well.
With those tests being negative, sexually acquried epididymitis has been definitively ruled out. Further, real epididymitis is a much more dramatic, inflamed condition than you have described.
Some of your symptoms could indicate prostatitis, but that's not a sexually tranmsitted condition. Discharge of fluid with bowel movements is not in itself abnormal, although frequent occurrence sometimes can be associated with prostatitis (see http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/859854).
Starting that evening, I began taking Avelox from a prev infection. I took 4 does over 4 nights. On day 5 I woke up with an erection and began masturbating. I noticed a milky yellowish discharge at the tip of my penis prior to ejaculation. I finished masturbating (ejaculate was yellowish white) and went to work. I noticed discharge from my penis. There was a yellowish underwear stain but unsure if that is from semen or if gonocal discharge.

Borrelia is neither gram negative nor gram positive, but in the past, it was mistakenly thought to be gram negaive. Some old publications out there still call it gram negative (incorrectly). Here is a good biological description.

Bartonella has been known to cause skin lesions. Have you been tested at IGeneX for it? You might want to get tested for both b.henselae and b.quintana (I don't know who offers tests b.quintana.

After two days of suffering ithcing in my urethra, followed by a frequent urge to urinate, I began to take some left over Avelox (400 mg) that I had on hand. Trust me, I know this was dumb. 36 hours after I began taking the Avelox (one dose on Friday night at 5:30 pm and one on Saturday at 5:00 pm) I had a swab for gonorrhea and chlamydia (1:45 pm on Sunday). The test results just came back negative. Is it possible that the Avelox ruined the test results?

treated with doxycycline by end of june for 1 wk. started on avelox end of july for 1 wk. then given levaquin for a wk. by last wk doc said she didn't think was infection cause levaquin shoudl have killed anything, even though I was still having gobs of green phlegm coming down the back of my throat and out of my lungs. she sent me to the asthma and allergy clinic where i was tested for 27 diff allergies all negative for.
I have had a round of Avelox a few weeks ago and recently Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days and still have discharge. Question,
wouldn't these antibiotics be affective against NGU, Chlamydia or Gonnorrhea? Thanks for the help.
Gram negative diploccoci typically means gonorrhea but should be confirmed with a urine test or culture. There are other Gram neg diploccoci out there as well.
It's impossible to tell who carrried the STD first unless your wife can prove she did not have any sexual encounters. However, how would you know 100% that's the truth?
It's unlikely that you would carry a gonorrhea infection for that long without knowing, but it's possible. You could have been asymptematic.
Had unprotected oral (only) sex exposure (giving and recvg) 2 months ago. Took 8 days of 400mg Avelox for sinus infection post exposure. Saw Urologist appx 11 days after event with urgency / frequency to urinate, fullness in abdomen, penile discomfort consistent with having to urinate badly. No dischearge and no burning when urinating. Urine sample was clear, rectal prostate exam with secretions showed bacteria in prostate. Diagnosed with prostatitis. I am not sure what (clear) meant?
After trying Doxy, Azithromycin, and Flagyl, the only antibiotic that finally worked was Avelox. The question now is what I should treat my partner with. I know from my experience that my NGU was passed sexually, and she needs to get treated before we can have sex again. The problem, is that she said she is allergic to Avelox. Another problem, is that since it is NGU, we cannot test to confirm if the bacteria is cured, and she is also asymptomatic.
hi doc. today i got my test result. gram postive and gram negative were found in swab test. gonorrhea and chlamydia are both negative.
since i had read a lot on the forum before i went to the test, i know the proper treatment for ngu is doxicycline or azithromynthin. but my doctor insisted on cefixime for ngu when i told him what i heard about on the internet.
so my question:
is cefixime effective against ngu, specifically gram negative and gram positive in my case?
I have tendonitis as a result of taking Avelox. Is this a condition that can be treated like other tendonitis and what is the prognisis?
t even look at my scalp and prescribed me with doxycycline for a whole year 2 pills a day, but after being on the antibiotic I think I have developed gram-negative folliculitus which cause large pimples to appear on my nose ( boils in other words). I know that I should stop taking the antibiotics to stop the gram-negative folliculitus but this time around the folliculitus on my scalp has become itchy and painful.
about 2 months ago i had an encounter with a csw, portected oral and intercours, a week later and a huge amount of guilt later , i went to the gum clinic where they took a urine sample and done a gram stain test.
