treated with doxycycline by end of june for 1 wk. started on avelox end of july for 1 wk. then given levaquin for a wk. by last wk doc said she didn't think was infection cause levaquin shoudl have killed anything, even though I was still having gobs of green phlegm coming down the back of my throat and out of my lungs. she sent me to the asthma and allergy clinic where i was tested for 27 diff allergies all negative for.

Went to see a couple of doctors and they think it is sinus infection - so went on two anti-biotic treatments (Augmentin 10 days - which did not work, then Avelox 14 days). Just finished the Avelox course, but still having some post nasal drip and sore throat. But generally feeling better. Question: How would you assess the risk of this encounter for STD's and HIV in particular? Does female ejaculate fluid contain the HIV virus? What about other STD's?

side effects are you talking about? Avelox is a great antibiotic for resp. infections. I have taken it many times and I am a nurse. It is expensive though. Do you smoke? If so, the phlegm is probably building b/c your cilia cannot clear your airway any longer.

I was on levaquin, cipro, avelox sporadically for 5 years. They were trying to fight a sinus infection. I ended up with 24 diagnosis from 7 specialists. I truly thought that I was going to die. She gave me 7 Avelox, yukes, my insurance would not cover it and it was $139.00 for 7 pills!!!@ But I am better. I also bought one of those weekly pill boxes so I don't just get them out of the bottle daily and then forget if I took one or not.

Hi, Out of many causes of ankle and feet swelling , one cause is Leg infection . That is the reason why your symptoms subside for a while when you take antibiotics . Whenever you get swelling next time , please get a CBP with ESR test done to know the specific causative organism and take treatment accordingly . Please consult a physician for the same . Called Oral Surg -said it sounds like throat and tooth infection are 2 seperate issues - but I do not think so - I do not have any cold symp, only the Left Side throat is sore, within inch of infected gum. About a week ago I was having cold-like symptoms. You know, the onset headache and scratchy throat. Before having the surgery I had sore throat pain, like a dry throat in the morning on the right side, and pain in the right ear for months but ear was always clear. A few days after the exposure I statrted taking an antibiotic, Avelox, for a sinus issue. Over the weekend I statrted to itch but with no visible signs of a rash. The question I have is this an early sign of HIV infection? Were my blood tests too close to exposure and therefore worthless? Is the "itch" a possible adverse reaction to the Avelox. I stopped taking the antibiotic today. Just overly concerned and need some reassurance that I have not contracted HIV.

Thanks for the info. I was on Avelox for 14-day and I have not had discharge for over 7 weeks now. And the MG DNA test from urine is also negative. However, I have symptome of chronic prostatitis, but doctors are not seeing any actual infections, and told me I should not be on AB. Initially I had doxy for 3 weeks, but the UTI just came back after 2 weeks. I think a lot of people are as desperate as I am. Can more people share their experience or methods to alleviate the symptoms?

I was tested for asthma I guess and they said I donot have asthma. now I ended up back at the er for cough and my chest X ray was clear. they said allergies and sent me home. It is now JUNE and same issues going on. same dry feeling throat and chest. nose feels really dry and this causes me to cough more. I once again go to my allergy dr who now gave me an oral steroid and an antibiotic called AVELOX he said it could be a sinus infection or allergies.

I have not been tested for that. I have numerous doctors tell me acid reflux, but I have been on meds for that for months. I guess I have large amounts of drainage from my nose and at night it sit in my throat. I cough up mucus at times, and now some of the mucus has blood on it. All of it comes from my throat cuz I can tell my chest feels clear.

I plan in being tested within the next week but is it possible for aids to come on within 7 weeks of infection (I do not have any pre existing immune conditions) and could that produce a false negative when looking for HIV antibodies?

If you have taken any of these drugs, do you remember if you took them before or after you developed cardiac symptoms. I am wondering if my cardiac symptoms are due to taking Avelox for a sinus infection. If you do need an antibioitic make sure that your doctor does not prescribe any of these drugs. They are associated with a number of devastating reactions.

Could be sinus infection too. Go to a hospital so that you can have head and chest x-rays. A chest x-ray is the ONLY way to rule out pneumonia. If you are getting the chest X-ray then no reason not to also have the head X-ray. Doctors treat a sinus infection they can see much more rigorously. Then leave with a good strong antibiotic, if it is a sinus infection you might try Avelox.

I have had walking pneumonia for 3 weeks. I took two Z packs and I'm 5 days into my Doxycycline and I still feel bad. I have no energy and my throat still hurts. I can't take Avelox or anything in that family because I am allergic to them. How long does it normally take to start feeling better on Doxy? Maybe I just haven't been taking it long enough? When do you think I'll start to feel normal again?
