After trying Doxy, Azithromycin, and Flagyl, the only antibiotic that finally worked was Avelox. The question now is what I should treat my partner with. I know from my experience that my NGU was passed sexually, and she needs to get treated before we can have sex again. The problem, is that she said she is allergic to Avelox. Another problem, is that since it is NGU, we cannot test to confirm if the bacteria is cured, and she is also asymptomatic.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin type of antibiotic and Avelox is a quinilone. Different mechanisms of action but both antiobitics used to treat bacterial infections. Quinilones are used less frequently for sure due to some side effect issues and warnings about the class of drugs. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns but they are definately not the same thing.
Often antibiotics have little niches that they are used in.

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately, cannot discontinue antibiotic treatment. I was given a large dose antibiotic at the ER and took doxy today and frankly, I'd like to not play around with this. My biggest concern is whether there is enough of a risk that the test was a false negative that I should tell my current girlfriend she needs to be tested which would likely bring our relationship to an end.
As for the test I was given, it was a standard swab inserted in the urethra.
I recently developed an upper respitory infection and bronchitis and one of the medications was AVELOX. Within 3 days the severe pain in my shoulders was GONE. How is this possible? Was it a viral infection causing my pains and if so could it be a form of Lyme Disease?
Avelox is another antibiotic. I don't know how long it will take to clear out of your system. That would depend on what kind of antibiotic it was and how you metabolize it.
Do a search for its side effects and see if they match up. Your dr does need to know about your reaction to the medicine so that he doesn't give it to you again.

I never in my life had a panic attack until I taken the antibiotic Bactrim made me have one thought i was dieing. Avelox did the same but I controled it until it went away. I am 22 and in good health.
treated with doxycycline by end of june for 1 wk. started on avelox end of july for 1 wk. then given levaquin for a wk. by last wk doc said she didn't think was infection cause levaquin shoudl have killed anything, even though I was still having gobs of green phlegm coming down the back of my throat and out of my lungs. she sent me to the asthma and allergy clinic where i was tested for 27 diff allergies all negative for.
Doctors treat a sinus infection they can see much more rigorously. Then leave with a good strong antibiotic, if it is a sinus infection you might try Avelox.
I am 39, female in pretty good shape (I run and work out regularly) I came down with Pneumonia after I had visited both the Bahamas and France in February and March. I came back from the bahamas with a cough, I got really bad in Paris and then seemed to get better when I came back home.
I had to take antibotics twice also. Very bad upper respiratiory infections. Levaquin and Avelox. It will not effect your chances at SVR and there are always all kinds of warnings about liver precautions on the medication guides but my hep doc said they were fine.
I had VERY weird hallucinations last night. I woke up out of a dead sleep, thinking my cat, who was stuck to my headboard (don't ask me how), was falling on me...I (thought) I tipped it back up, reached for the bedside lamp, which kept moving out of my reach, silly light, I finally got it on, cat was sleeping just fine on pillow, headboard was where it belonged. Everytime I closed my eyes I saw different cartoons and movies. Yes, I'm totally serious.
Does anyone know if its ok to take antibiotics with riba? I'm not sure if I should take a dose of each together or should I wait and take the antibiotic (Avelox 400mg) separately. I'd rather take them together because each should be taken with food and I don't have much appetite so when I do manage to eat I'd like to get all the drugs down at once. Any input would be helpful.

I tested positive for Mycoplasma Genitalium in a DNA Lab, I just finsish my antibiotic treatment of Azithromycin 500mg day one the 250mg for 4 days. It's been 5 days since my last pill, I'm still feeling tenderness in my penis. What should be my next step?

I am wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar or if I could get some insight as to what might be going on here. I have been frequently prescribed antibiotics (no penicilin or sulfa as I have been allergic since a child) over the past two years for having several bouts of sinus infections, throat infections and bronchitis symptoms.
I talked to her yesterday and she said to start the Avelox antibiotic which I did yesterday. I now have 2 doses in me. I also started Zyrtec yesterday per the allergist recommendation.
I am a 44 year old male and the only other thing I take is valium 5 mg ...the avelox 400 mg that I have taken two 7 day coursed of recently I can no longer take as it effects my heart rate now...my ent switched to levaqin 500 mg and that also was no good for me...floroquines are not tolerated well anymore by me either now...
6 weeks ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia through a chest x-ray. I was put on Avelox and an inhaler. Two days later I had to go to the ER b/c the symptoms were worse. Breathing was more difficult. I was then given an antibiotic shot and a Zpac. They did a blood test-WBC was normal. I started to feel better the next week. However, as soon as the antibiotic round was over, my symptoms began to return. I run a low fever on and off all day of 99.
Why does a person who has had 2 children start getting urticaria after taking an antibiotic course of 10 days the third time she takes it? Then next time the doctor prescribes her on another type of antibiotic and then same thing happens, she is okay the first time she has to take it and usually the second but around the second or third time over a course of 3 to 5 years, she gets the urticaria again after taking the same antibiotic that she used for 3 or more years.
Went to urgent care and they changed the antibiotic to Avelox and also gave me steroids. I was reading about Avelox and it mentioned serious heart rhythm side effects - a rare heart called prolongation of QT interval. I am scared to death to take this. I did disclose to the doctor that I suffer from SVT but she didn't mention side effects or warnings. My question is.....has anyone had any reactions to this antibiotic?
In February I came down with the respiratory infection that was going on in our southern California area. It took a long time to go away, when I finally went to the doctor and got an antibiotic. I was better for a couple of days, but seems to have become VERY sensitive to smoke. I start coughing when I even walk by someone who is smoking outside in the fresh air. I think I have also identified that putting half and half into my coffee causes me to start coughing.
He then put me on a Avelox for 10 days. During the Avelox course of treatment, I was coughing very hard over the sink in the bathroom and from my right nostril a huge liver looking clot came flying out and splashed all over the place my shirt was covered. It shocked me but then another of the same came out. I had a ct of sinuses the day before and I was very blocked . Next day along with green , came a strange orangey /yellow mucus came out constant for a day , then green again.
I have had a round of Avelox a few weeks ago and recently Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days and still have discharge. Question,
wouldn't these antibiotics be affective against NGU, Chlamydia or Gonnorrhea? Thanks for the help.
I have tendonitis as a result of taking Avelox. Is this a condition that can be treated like other tendonitis and what is the prognisis?
Levaquin (probably) would have cured gonorrhea.
But Dallas is right, it's not recommended because of resistance. It's a not a cephalosporin, it's a flourquinolone, and those are not currently a drug of choice for gonorrhea.
It is interesting too that the Avelox failed, as it's an even stronger antibiotic than Levaquin. However, it is also a flourquinolone.
If I were you, I'd get a gonorrhea test just to rule that out.
I had it for 16 years before finally getting it cleared up with Avelox, I had tried every antibiotic under the sun.
