Avelox and tendon rupture

Common Questions and Answers about Avelox and tendon rupture

avelox

Avatar m tn I have had a good amount of tendon pain mostly in left achilles and in tendons on top and bottom of arch of foot as well as some heel and knee pain. Again, like I said primarily left side. The achilles pain has subsided some, most of the pain and discomfort now is in the foot. I have taken quinolones a few times in the past (Cipro) with either no pain or some pain that subsided quickly at or shortly after end of course (same with left leg/foot, I think).
Avatar m tn If the tendonitis is due to Avelox then yes, it can be treated as usual. The pain and inflammation will subside once the medication leaves the body completely. This may take a week. This is treated with NSAIDs, rest and orthotics or specially designed foot wear to ease the pressure off the tendon. Take care!
Avatar m tn Was Levaquin knowing as a cause of Achilles tendon rupture before September/2006?
Avatar n tn On July 8, 2008 the Food and Drug Administration slapped a black box warning on Cipro and other, similar antibiotics due to an increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture. Recent adverse reports include ruptures to the shoulder, hand, bicep or thumb tendons." Avatar n tn I have to be able to lift and carry 150 lbs and push and pull up to 600 lbs can i do this with the tendon being ruptured?
1994720 tn?1352742233 Thank you for your response. I have already seen a rheumatologist and neurologist about the strange tendon and nerve pain I've had ever since my surgery and subsequent sepsis incident. I never had these before and they are stumped. I have also read that high b12 and folate can actually mean I am not metabolizing/absorbing it well, hence they are ending up in my bloodstream at high levels.
Avatar f tn Took Cipro and the sinus pain was not improved so that was follwed by a course of Avelox where I ended up in the ER by day 7 on it [couldn't walk on my own needed IV fluids]. Off it for a week now and still really tired, various nerve pain, joint pain, muscle fatigue...seems to cycle, weak and dizzy, some blurred vision but it's all better than it had been just seems it should be gone since the meds are out of my system.
Avatar m tn Also, you may now need a tendon lengthening operation followed by rest (or cast) and physiotherapy. If it is a mild rupture, conservative approach may help. This will have to be followed up by correct weight bearing, physiotherapy and use of correct foot wear. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you had trauma to your shoulder and perhaps tore your subscap tendon which is part of the rotator cuff. If a tear is present that would cause fluid to be in the area. If that's the case surgery is probably needed, but most people have wonderful results. Hope this helps...I haven't heard of a medial rupture before...normally anterior, inferior, and posterior are the most common with shoulder. I have to say I'm not sure what that means!
Avatar f tn hi everyone this is my first time here the problem i have is my husband had a complete rupture of his right achilles tendon in march 2009 he decided to heal the conservative way by Sept he was in so much pain and no one would listen to him we looked for a second opinion and April 2010 he had his first op the surgeon removed the outer sheath of the tendon and shortened it by October 2010 it had degenerated and had to have another op where the surgeon took the tendon away and replaced it with his
Avatar m tn I had sutures drilled through kneecap and the full rupture repair. Had a Cast on for 7 weeks and then a brace for about 3 months. I made a big mistake and never went to physio only my first day and never went back. Now I am paying for it, my knee gives way and I have very bad pain every day my leg is half the size of my other and you can see the sutures move in my knee. I have to go for a Camera in my knee in 4 weeks have I damaged my self ? or can i repair this?
Avatar f tn We were very lucky as the rupture of the tendon occurred at the proximal end but left some tendon still attached so the repair was done attaching the two ends of the tendon. So far, so good. By February, his basketball game should be as good as ever! One other question, because Caleb is 6'1" and about 161 lbs. with long legs, is there any concern about his left leg having the same problem? He is a sports-aholic--he'd rather be playing some kind of ball than eating or sleeping.
Avatar m tn Hi! I've just had my tendon repaired after suffering a full rupture whilst playing rugby! How long is the recovery period will I be able to run again or will I ever be able to play contact sports again?
Avatar n tn Mild tears may recover in a week while a complete rupture of a tendon can take months to fully heal. A fully ruptured tendon may require surgery to make full recovery.
Avatar m tn You are over reacting. Why continue to exercise the arm, which will only exacerbate problems and risk a repetitive stress syndrome, if you believe the tendon is injured? Pulling tendon away from bone requires a great deal of force, and is very traumatic, usually accompanied with a loud snap followed by sharp pain and much swelling and bruising. You report none of these symptoms.
Avatar f tn the next day and after he told me to take it easy and quit exercise to avoid rupture, he told me the pain and swelling would go away in a couple weeks. Well, 3 months later, I saw my internist who said it would go away on its own. Well a year later, I am still suffering every day with this pain and weakness.
Avatar f tn In those with certain diseases such as gout and hyperparathyroidism; tendon rupture may result. Other general causes are direct trauma and decrease of blood supply. You should be careful and should avoid any injuries, avoid direct stress to your quadriceps tendon and also should avoid steroid injections. Avoid simultaneous quadriceps contraction and also stretching of the muscle. Take care!
Avatar m tn Levaquin is associated with an increased risk of tendon rupture or swelling of the tendon (tendinitis) in all ages. This risk is higher if you are over 60 years of age, are taking steroids (corticosteroid drugs), or if you have kidney, heart, or lung transplants" ..... "Tendon rupture can happen while you are taking Levaquin or up to several months after you have finished taking it.." and .... "Damage to nerves in the arms, legs and hands can happen.
Avatar m tn That is an excellent question, since both antibiotics are fluoroquinalones, the same class of drugs. It is not a good idea to take a "lot of these drugs". Tendon rupture and horrible aches and pains for months can result. People have different genetic tolerances. I can tolerate Cipro, for example, however Levofloxacin caused me terrible problems for almost eight months. Getting back to your question the answer is "probably", but not absolutely positively. .
Avatar f tn I would suggest you to go for an MRI and see if your patellar tendon, the tendon of quadriceps is fine and there is no problem with the quadriceps tendon. Follow up with an orthopedician for proper diagnosis and treatment. A traumatic patellar tendon rupture can occur on rare occasions. Patients with patellar tendon rupture present with pain, swelling, and minimal ability to extend the knee. Surgical treatment is available if physiotherapy, yoga does not help.
Avatar n tn Three holes were drilled in my hip bone and the tendon was located and sutured into these holes. A pig skin graft was used to help secure the sutures. Also I had a Bursectomy and a bone spur removed. I would like to hear comments from anyone else who has gone through this. How long post surgery to be pain free? How is walking and climbing stairs? This discussion is related to treatment for ruptured gl. medius tendon.
Avatar m tn can a patellar tendon rupture be diagnosed by just looking at the leg or should there be more tests done to confirm this to be the problem?, and also my mother has not complained of any pain at all, She just describes it as a weakness in the leg and a feeling that she will fall, and in fact has fallen. When someone describes a ruptured patellar tendon it always seems to accompany a great deal of pain.
Avatar m tn Distal biceps rupture is a common injury in the athletic population, and almost all orthopedists will recommend surgical repair for this injury. The results of non-surgical treatment usually are unsatisfactory, with loss of supination (forearm rotation) strength. Surgery can be performed with either a two incision or one incision technique. Both approaches have their own set of complications. The single incision technique has an increased incidence of injury to the radial nerve.
Avatar n tn An MRI revealed a gluteus medius tendon rupture. My orthopedist drilled 3 holes in my hip bone and then sutured the tendon back on to the bone. He also did a Bursectomy and removed a bone spur and used Blood Platelet Therapy while he was in there. I also had thought a lot of the pain was Fibromyalgia but now I realize that it was this hip injury. The way I understand this is that it is the fluid that is toxic and can completely destroy your tendon.
