Off it for a week now and still really tired, various nerve pain, joint pain, muscle fatigue...seems to cycle, weak and dizzy, some blurred vision but it's all better than it had been just seems it should be gone since the meds are out of my system. I'm also dehydrated for no reason [drinking lots of water and electrolytes, no caffeine, no fever, no vomiting,etc.]. Unable to function normally, doctor doesn't seem to care or have any explanation.
I found a post that said that medications from the fluoroquinolone antibiotics (such as Cipro, Levaquin, Tequin, Avelox or Floxin) can cause these symptoms...I took Cipro and Levaquinn about 7 years ago, for a few short days each and my doctor switched the medication saying I was allergic. Now I am wondering if all my symptoms that have gone undiagnosed could be a side effect of those medications. Anyone else able to tie the two together? If so, what can you do to make it better?
For many years I have pains that pop up for no reason in joints and muscles and last for usually three to six months and then vanish. I get rashes and tiny red spots on my shins and then clear up. The rashes last about the same three to six months. I had these pains in both my shoulders at once, which almost never happens, so I thought it was my rotator cuffs going due to the work that I do.
This then moved on to night sweats and muscle pain which is getting worse and worse. I seem to be pulling muscles very easily. I have had all kinds of blood work done as well as CAT scans of my head chest pelvic and abdomen and all fine, though my most recent blood test showed a high sed rate, low iron, low b-12 and something to do with the connective tissue of my muscles. My dr is thinking Lupus but i find it hard to believe one day you can just wake up and poof you have this illness.
If the tendonitis is due to Avelox then yes, it can be treated as usual. The pain and inflammation will subside once the medication leaves the body completely. This may take a week. This is treated with NSAIDs, rest and orthotics or specially designed foot wear to ease the pressure off the tendon. Take care!

Currently I have 6 days remaining on the doxycycline and 9 days remaining on the avelox. After trying Doxy, Azithromycin, and Flagyl, the only antibiotic that finally worked was Avelox. The question now is what I should treat my partner with. I know from my experience that my NGU was passed sexually, and she needs to get treated before we can have sex again. The problem, is that she said she is allergic to Avelox. Another problem, is that since it is NGU, we cannot test to confirm if the bacteria is cured, and she is also asymptomatic.
ve been trying to baby, diabetes, contr-indicated. And on and on. Also can cause muscle soreness..I have fibro, and all the other muscle stuff going on already. I'm considering stopping the Lyrica also, as it doesn't seem to be doing much good. But at least (so far) it's not hurting me like this drug was! Thank you for being concerned and asking. I'm getting closer to my appt with Dr. M on April 1 (Quix's dr), and am really hoping for some guidance and ANSWERS!!!
After a week it moved to my chest and about 14 days in, it was diagnosed as Phneuonia. After 8 days on avelox my tongue swole up. They changed me to another antiobiotic, and sent me off to an ENT who did an EMI of my head. He said that the problem with my tongue appeard to be nerve damage because the left side of my tongue was unresponsive when I tried to move it.
What could cause this? I did have a very bad migrane the day before I began to notice symptoms, could it be realted to that?
Is it me or the Medicine? My doctor thinks its just me and ignores it. Some Medications are fine for me Just a upset stomach thats all....some makes me have a ful blown panic attack. I never in my life had a panic attack until I taken the antibiotic Bactrim made me have one thought i was dieing. Avelox did the same but I controled it until it went away. I am 22 and in good health.
Last February I had several encounters with the same partner, unprotected. In early april, i began feeling symptoms of pain in my urethra, cloudy urine, and split stream, although no discharge. Unavoidably, i could not make it to the clinic until a week after the symptoms started. By that point i was having problems sleeping. I was diagnosed with chlamydia, given azythromicin, and a few days later things were on the upswing. A month later, same type of symptoms.
also been on the avelox a week now and still have a week to go, but infection is just getting worse. have been making sure not to take any dairy or other minerals with it, 8 hrs before or 4 hrs after taking it. doc told me to take my omeprazole every day for my acid reflux (which i haven't had any problems with in quite a while) because she thought my acid reflux might be causing all of this to be worse and making my asthma flare up.
I think as I have gotten older its has gotten worse and might now need that new ballon procedure for the sinus...avelox and levaquin are like poison to me after being on them for so many weeks,,,anxiety,fatigue...insomnia...restlessness stomach upset...elevated heart rate...floroquines are bad...I still feel effects weeks after stopping them...I hope thats all it is...thanks Doctor...
I switched to Avelox and the stomach pain reduced quickly, so I do believe Rifampin was making it worse. About 2 weeks into Avelox I had some cramping in my left Achilles heel, so they switched me to Levaquin. If I have a problem with Levaquin, then no more drugs in that family for me. I don't know what the next choice is.

I have had a good amount of tendon pain mostly in left achilles and in tendons on top and bottom of arch of foot as well as some heel and knee pain. Again, like I said primarily left side. The achilles pain has subsided some, most of the pain and discomfort now is in the foot.
I have taken quinolones a few times in the past (Cipro) with either no pain or some pain that subsided quickly at or shortly after end of course (same with left leg/foot, I think).
But a few weeks ago I had severe phrenic nerve pain and they diagnosed me with Lingular Pneumonia and I was hospitalized for a week on IV antibiotics (I had bilateral effusions as well as bacterial sepsis-my bp dropped to 50/30 and I had tachycardia and they flooded me with fluids which caused the effusion) . The first day I was on two ABT's, zithromax and something else but the IV versions.
Does anyone know if its ok to take antibiotics with riba? I'm not sure if I should take a dose of each together or should I wait and take the antibiotic (Avelox 400mg) separately. I'd rather take them together because each should be taken with food and I don't have much appetite so when I do manage to eat I'd like to get all the drugs down at once. Any input would be helpful.
