Avastin xeloda breast cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Avastin xeloda breast cancer

xeloda

Avatar n tn My onco tried me on taxol, and avastin, then xeloda. Neither of these worked. He suggests that I try Jemzar. I have stage IV mestatic breast cancer that has spread to my spine. I was dx in Feb 2002. I have previously been on different chemo.surgery, hormonal.. arimidex, aromosin, fasoldex . and several radiation treatments. I am undecided on doing any more chemo. My cancer , of course , is er/pr positive. Is there any advice on this chemo. or is there another hormonal I could try.
Avatar f tn Your question would probably be best answered by someone in the expert forum. I do know though, that my father was given Xeloda for his lung cancer. The doctor described it as a "smart drug" which attacked cancer cells.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with colon Cancer in Feb 2007. He took chemo drug Xeloda and had standard radiation. During a check up in January 2008, tumors were found in his lungs- one in each lung, sizes: 7mm and 13mm. He took chemo: Folfox, Avastin, Oxaliplatin, and Xeloda until April 2008. The April CT scan revealed that the tumors had grown slightly and that there were four more small nodules visable.
Avatar f tn My Husband has Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer he is on treatments for a clinical trial Avastin, Xeloda, Oxaliplatin He has been on the Trial since early March 2010 he was diagnosed the end of February 2010 He is 35 years old and other then the Cancer has been in perfect health the treatments started off well but he developed stage 3-4 Neuropathy in August in his hands and feet. Avatar f tn WHEN MY MOTHER HAD BREAST CANCER AND HER BREAST WAS REMOVED, SHE WAS GIVEN 6 CYCLES OF CHEMO AFTER WHICH THE DOCTOR TOLD HER SHE WAS CURED. BUT AFTER 1YEAR 8 MONTHS THE CANCER CAME BACK AS METS. LATER WE CAME TO KNOW THAT SINCE SHE IS HR2+ HER CANCER IS AGGRESSIVE. THE DOCTOR KNEW THIS AND HE ALSO KNEW THAT AFTER A PERIOD OF 1.5YRS THE CANCER WILL STRIKE BACK BUT HE DID NOT WARN US SO AS TO LET US BE AT PEACE WITH THE SITUATION, THOUGH HE KEPT A 3 MONTLY CHECK UP ON HER.

Avatar f tn Hi - my mom just received a diagnosis of Ovarian cancer, stage 3c. Her docs seem excellent, and are recommending that she participate in a clinical trial of standard chemo (randomized, so we won't know what exactly she'll get) plus Avastin. She's really stressed about the chemo side effects (been there/done that with breast cancer 10 years ago), and we're wondering if there are any trials that are looking at Avastin alone as a treatment option.
Avatar f tn s attending physician for proper management. The CT scan findings showed breast cancer with metastasis or spread of the cancer to the other organs mentioned. Factors such as her complete medical history, symptoms and results of other diagnostic tests are important considerations also. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn for patients with late-stage colorectal cancer or late-stage non-small-cell lung cancer but many doctors use it to treat breast cancer. Common side effects of this drug are: high blood pressure, Gastrointestinal perforation, hemorrhage, arterial thromboembolism. (http://www.mims.com/Page.aspx?menuid=mng&name=Avastin+vial&h=avastin) I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar m tn After one three-week cycle my doctor discontinued the Xeloda. I was able to complete treatment with the oxiliplatin. This was in 2004 and I am cancer free today. Ask your mother's doctor for something else. If possible she should not stop chemo until her doctor is certain no trace of cancer remains in her lymph system. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Florida Hospital is recognized as one of the top research sites for women's cancer in the United States. Participating in more than 175 clinical trials each year, Florida Hospital is one of the most active clinical trial sites in Florida. Currently Florida Hospital is conducting new ovarian cancer trials. Ongoing trials for breast cancer, endometrial cancer and women's cancers are also available.
Avatar f tn A board of cancer experts decided Wednesday the cancer narcotic Avastin should not be approved by the FDA for breast cancer patients. The drug is ineffective and has extreme side effects, the panel established. The Food and Drug Administration commissioner will make a last determination in July. Here is the proof: [url=http://www.newsytype.
540822 tn?1313086322 Apparently, Avastin is FDA approved for colon cancer and insurance will cover it. If used for ovarian, breast or other cancers then it is not FDA approved and insurance SOMETIMES will not cover it. This treatment is approx. $17,000.00 per round. So, I have to make the decision by September 5th on whether or not to take the trio combo with insurance possibly kicking it back or sticking with the Carbo/Taxol only. I would love to hear from anyone on this topic. Pros/Cons? Advice? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Approx 1 year later she had a positive node/nodule removed. Within a month, the breast cancer started in her skin around the site of the node. She now has a red rash (skin mets) in approx half of her chest wall and is getting Chemo (Xeloda) and Herceptin. My question is, the skin is beginning to "harden" around the node removal surgery site. What does this mean? Any other comments on Skin mets would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn It is with avastin and has 3 arms, so I had 2 chances to get avastin and will never know whether or not I did. I am now in the monitoring stage and get CT scans every 3 months for 2 years (I have one more year). For the 2 year monitoring, there's, of course no possible individual benefit for me. Although I do not like scans and am concerned about the radiation, I am planning to stick with the trial.
107366 tn?1305680375 s recommendation for using Avastin as an agent for treating breast cancer, saying the risks of using it far outweigh the benefits. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about what that may or may not do for getting it approved for treating ovarian cancer. Most insurances still will not pay for it until it is approved.
Avatar f tn I am looking for the true survival rates for stage IIB breast cancer. I have been on chemo (a study including Avastin) since March '10 and have one more treatment left prior to surgery. Now I understand the FDA is withdrawing its consent to use Avastin. My axilla tumor was nearly 4cm while the breast tumor was 2.5+/- . My question is: What are the true survival rates when you are comparing lumpectomy vs complete bilaterial mastectomy.
408448 tn?1286883821 Anyone ever use Xeloda pills? It is for colon cancer, but has been used in ovarian too. More for mucinous type. My cancer got pretty active on last treatment.
Avatar n tn but this week was terrible, we was to tha hospital here close to my home because my husband have a incfrese pain , after 7 month the quimioterapy with xeloda, taxol, avastin, i talk with his doctor , we want to make ct stan, because that pet-scan always say everything is same. after that cat scan reveled that tumor original left size abdominal is growing, and have about 5 tumor more that is coming growing about 3 and 4 cm each.
120574 tn?1240767840 Please let me know how your cat scan turns out. I will probably be starting avastin and cytoxin next Tues or Wed. I've had doxil. CA 125 came down but Cat shows disease progression in liver and abdomen. I am 42 years old and have been battling this rotten disease since Nov 2004. Also had Breast Cancer in 2006. (I'm BRCA 1 positive). This is so scary and now don't know what to do or expect! Thanks. ps. i will pray that your CAT scan is good.
Avatar n tn Then with a pet scan discovered a lymph node supraclavicular. Stage 3 breast ca. The pathology came back her2 neg. weakly positive 20% estrogen, progesterone neg. I was treated with Adriamycin/CYTOXIN Along with 33 rounds of radiation. I was also on tamoxifen for 10 mos. and have since had a local reoccurrence in the lymph node in my neck. The lymph node has been removed and biopsied and came back the same as before. Weakly positive ER 20%.,Her2 neg. PR neg..
349465 tn?1289081764 I was told that due to it not being FDA for ovarian cancer some insurance companies will not pay for it. I was actually thinking of taking Avastin and my oncologist was all for it. Sadly, he had a case where this lady was given the Avastin, her insurance company actually APPROVED it, then a couple months after her treatment she receives a notice that they were no longer going to pay for it because it is not approved for ovarian cancer. She is now going to court.
1298675 tn?1286550183 On July 13, 2009 we found stage 3, grade 3, IDC left breast cancer that is HER 2 + and 2/7 nodes positive. I choose a Lumpectomy which lead to a horrible infection for many months. A nurse packed and unpacked the breast leaving chemo delayed and a lot of pain daily. The PICC line caused two blood clots and Arixtra shots are given daily in my tummy. By late November Herceptin was started and chemo followed in December.
414018 tn?1268611672 hi mine is acting more like a low grade cancer . avastin in australia is only covered for bowel cancer patients and costs like 2,500 every 3 weeks that's why i was looking at that clinic your at.
Avatar f tn My mother has stage IIIC primary peritoneal cancer/ovarian cancer. Is there any way she can get avastin with out being in a clinical trial. I don't like the percentages and she has been offered avastin in a clinical trial. I would like to see her get carbo/taxol and avastin and be assured this is what they are giving her. Chopps This discussion is related to Wondering about Avastin.
120574 tn?1240767840 Researchers from the MD Anderson Cancer Center have reported that the incidence of bowel perforation among patients receiving Avastin (bevacizumab) for a variety of malignancies was 1.7%. The details of this study appeared in an early on-line publication in the Annals of Oncology on November 16, 2007.1 Avastin is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
