Hello I have severe pain under my crown, my gums are swollen around the crown and are also sore, the most extreme pain I've ever had with a tooth. I had some augmentin on hand which I started taking today, can't see dentist until tues. Does anyone know what this is? Please help. Started yesterday, so today is my second day with this pain. Also have slight swelling in my cheek.
I am in horrible pain ~ My question is should I try to get an emergency extraction of the tooth that is black and hurting? Can the tooth be the cause of the ear infection? Please help, any advice is GREATLY appreciated...I am scheduled for the root-canal re-do in 6 days but I don't think I can make it.
I am a heart patient and concerend. Should I be? The DDS (Oral surgeon) said once the tooth is gone..the infection is gone also., Is this true? I am on Augmentin 875 and this has not touched the pain or infection. Thank You so much for helping me with this. I am so scard that i am doing the wrong thing by having this implant at the same time as extration of tooth #7. Lots of $$$$ for another failure.
After amoxicillin and endo retreating tooth, it felt better and fever gone, but 2 days after ending antibiotics, infection returned with intensity, spread along jawline into nearby tooth, causing that tooth to then also need a root canal. I was put back on the same dose of amoxicillin, then tried clindamycin for a few days, but infection continued to spread - a large red hot lump (tablespoon sized) formed on my jawline, just under the 2 affected teeth.
6 days ago I had my lower left molars removed, for teeth total. I had a massive tooth infection that swelled my face really substantially. Antibiotics didn't even take the swelling down. I received nerve damage from the infection causing paresthesia in my chin and lower lip. The extraction was done after a month of antibiotics and went off without a hitch. I had minimal pain and swelling from the procedure and seem to be healing well except for a couple of things.
Days after a fistula appeared on the gum and I suffered massive head pain as the infection drained. However the infection persists. Had tooth x-rays, CAT scans, MRI s, seen a dozen doctors, dentists , ENTs. Nobody believes me. I know I'm sick, I know my body (been in it for over 60 years) Sometimes feel near death.
ve googled and see that some potential causes are cellulitis, hypothyroidism, tooth abscess, allergies, trauma, infections, inflammation, I think lupus?, and cancer. I have had some recent dental issues (infection, teeth pulled, roots left too long after a tooth fell out). Has anyone had this? So weird. I mean, I guess I should assume it's from the dental stuff, but I just had another panoramic xray, and the dentist said everything was fine.
On July 1st I was sent to an oral surgeon who did a panoramic of my face and there was infection the size of a walnut up into my sinus. He put me on Augmentin and on July 8th he pulled the tooth. He also took the stitches out of the incision but the flap opened like it had never been stitched. He restitched it with Gortex stitches and said he thought it hadn't healed because I was so stressed out about the infection.
An initial root canal had been too shallow, had left some of the infected root in the tooth, and allowed the infection to progress into a nearby tooth, into my jaw, and all over my head. I became extremely ill for months (bedridden with the most severe flu-like illness). Both affected teeth have now been removed - under one the oral surgeon found a bone infection, he said the bone was mushy and he had to remove some of it.
In 2006 I had a root canal & crown done on last molar & then 9 monts later woke up swollen & puss came out of gum. The dentist xrayed & said everything looked good & it happened because the tooth sat to high & I gring my teeth & the pressure brused the bone & caused infection. Now again last week the same thing except now I also have a white bumpy looking thing on the opening of throat on the same side as the molar. I'm sure that's from the infection.
Well, here i am again, posting about my headaches. I am still having them. The tooth has been extracted for 2 weeks now. I am not having the pain when bending over now or moving....it's pretty constant now. It comes in waves and the pain is like a sharp shooting pain stemming from my left side inner nose up to my temple. I am so sick of this pain. I've been suffering since january 8th. I had the headaches as the original symptom and the tooth abscess was found on the CAT scan.
appt to prepare my upper teeth for the impressions, my dentist decided to fix a problematic tooth not specified in the phase I project. He found I needed a root canal, which he did. During the procedure, he said my "devital" tooth had abscessed and he worked on that. I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink.
However, last week of Februaru I developed white spots at the back of my throat. My doctor said it was strep and gave me Augmentin which reduced the appearance somewhat but not completely. I got the covid vaccine astrazeneca, got a fever and the white spots increased once again (even worse). My doctor gave me Augmentin again for a week along with flucanazole. I’m at the end of the course of treatment. The white spots have decreased but some are still there.
It could also be due to tooth infections, impacted tooth or skin infections. The others are migrainous headaches and those caused due to brain disorders, disorders of the eyes , neck or ears to name a few. To find a cure you need to consult your primary care physician for proper assessment. If needed he may refer you to a dentist. In the meantime take OTC naproxen for relief from pain.

My Dr has treated me with Metronidazole- brand name used was flagyl Nylstatin for yeast, clamycin,spandnox (for yeast), and recently had some relief with Augmentin(which was prescribed for a chest infection). When i was on augmentin all the above symptoms went away however came back 1 or 2 days after i came off the anti biotic.
I was wondering if anyone else has taken Augmentin. I was prescribed it for a double ear infection. Originally I was given acetic acid drops but they aren't working.
I plan on calling my OB in the morning to double check. They are pregnancy category B. Although they are thought to be safe not many studies have been done on them. I'm nervous about everything. This is my first pregnancy and I am only 18.

Now the tooth has become loose and this dentist informed me that it will have to be removed once the infection has cleared up. This dentist also said that he was fearful of the infection spreading any further so he told us to be admitted to hospital for IV antibotics. So since tuesday afternoon he has been receiving IV antibotics and as of yet the swelling hasn't improved (in fact this morning he couldn't open his eye!).
I also felt like my immune system was collapsing - I started to get sore throat, painful tooth and pain from an old infection on my back. No OTC yeast medication did anything but by chance I took Augmentin for something else and it all cleared up in 2 days! I didn't know at that point that Augmentin can't cure yeast so didn't think anything else of it. I now know this was lactobacillosis.
The NEXT October (2012) exact same thing!
I really thought I felt better when I was getting the shots. The Rocephin interrupted the course of Augmentin, so I finished the Augmentin after the shots were complete. I think I finished the Augmentin on a Friday, and that Saturday I had virtually no symptoms at all. Sunday they returned and have been bothering since.
I was told to hang in there that with the amount of infection I had that this is pretty typical. My head hurts, my ears hurt, my tooth area hurts. I can't chew on it as of yet. What do I do? Any suggestions would be great. Do I get a second option? I am fairly certain he got all the root b/c he did take an ex-ray after with that instrument inside the canal. But what do I know. I am not a dentist. Help please.
How fast is it getting bigger?
Seems odd that it would grow faster on a regular basis.
