Augmentin for tooth abscess

Common Questions and Answers about Augmentin for tooth abscess

augmentin

Avatar f tn I was on antibiotics (augmentin) before the surgery, which I continued due to the abscess but the day following the root canal, my face is very swollen, from the nose to below the jaw bone and slightly pink. It is not hard and not terribly sensitive today. What could have happened to cause this swelling and do you think the abscess has not been completely resolved?
Avatar n tn ve googled and see that some potential causes are cellulitis, hypothyroidism, tooth abscess, allergies, trauma, infections, inflammation, I think lupus?, and cancer. I have had some recent dental issues (infection, teeth pulled, roots left too long after a tooth fell out). Has anyone had this? So weird. I mean, I guess I should assume it's from the dental stuff, but I just had another panoramic xray, and the dentist said everything was fine.
Avatar n tn I have had a tooth in my mouth for a while that has been rotten- and from time to time it flares up with a small abscess- I have dentures (which press on the abscess) and no medical insurance (live in Belgium). I was at work on Saturday night and a customer worked in Dentistry- he told me I needed a course of Augmentin 875 for 10 days. I went to a Pharmacy and explained the situation and they sold me the course.
Avatar f tn Funny enough, just on Monday, my father needed his tooth number 7 removed due to an abscess and need for an implant and I only removed the tooth, we will wait a few weeks and then place the graft at that time (in his case he has lost much bone on the front part of the jaw bone) and then place the implants. I would recommed a CT scan always.
Avatar f tn I presume that you have finished the course of the antibiotics about a week ago. If that is the case, make an appointment with your doctor. Although the abscess is draining the "plug" needs to be removed. If the "plug" of the abscess has not come out, the abscess will continue to fester. As the abscess is oozing slowly means that you have an open wound and because of that you are unable to apply a magnesium sulphate drawing ointment.
Avatar f tn I came across this post while searching for a remedy for my tooth ache. I hope all is well with you now. Your post is almost four years old. I took ibuprofen 3 caplets of 220 mg and cephalexin 500 mg and got some relief after an hour. I also bit into half a clove of garlic with my hurting tooth. I slowly/very gently chewed on it. It is sort of hot and gives a burning sensation but it helps.
Avatar n tn Hi! I recently had a root canal and was prescribed clindamycin too....I too have allergies to other antibiotics. The clindomycin did NOTHING and the infection got worse so now I am on CIPRO which was my own idea. I don't know if it is working 100% yet, but at least the infection has died down and I can tell it is helping......
Avatar f tn I had an abscess in my right breast 10 years ago and it left a little lump after it healed. Two weeks ago I developed an abscess in the same spot. My GP recommended a week of antibiotics (Augmentin) and it started to drain on its own two days back. I feel a thickened area which hasn't gone down. Should I be worried? The abscess continues to drain slowly and I have covered it with sterilized gauze. Please help.
Avatar n tn I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.

Avatar f tn 3 days later, as the symptoms persisted, I went to my family doctor. She put me on Augmentin for 8 days for a sinus infection and said that she saw fluid behind my left eardrum. After the 8th day of pain, the augmentin did NOTHING and I went to the ER. The ER doctor was concerned about my family history and me being a smoker, and recommended a CAT scan and a spinal tap! I had both. I also insisted he do a full sinus scan. The CAT and Tap came back normal.
Avatar m tn I had a cracked tooth,I waited and put off something being done about it,and it became abscess,a pocket formed underneath it and also my jaw swelled up an I believe became infected, I went to the doctor, they numbed and drained the pocket, and gave me 2 antibiotics and a pain med, I'm no longer in pain (the cracked tooth is a little loose) but its been going on 3 days of antis and no change has occurred, is that normal? should I go back to the doctor?
Avatar n tn last week i developed an abcsess in my tooth. my cheek became very swollen. the doctor said the infection from the abscess had passed from my tooth into my cheek. they put me on keeflex. within 24 hours about 60% of the swelling in my cheek had subsided. i am now on day 6 of a 10 days worth of the keeflex.
Avatar m tn I have fairly white healthy teeth, but I have an abscess behind my tooth, how can I get rid of it, or sooth the pain.
Avatar f tn I have had dental abscesses before and clindamycin or avelox worked well for me. Hope the augmentin works, but if it doesn't try to get your Dr. to prescribe one of those two. Good luck.
Avatar f tn It can be caused by tooth decay, broken teeth or any extensive periodontal disease. There is no definite time it takes for this abscess to form. It depends on the severity of the organisms and their virulence. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn s got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone, so I’ve had a tooth abscess for YEARS now (since my junior year of high school) and I’ve gone a couple times to the dentist and have gotten a round of antibiotics but never went back to get the tooth pulled after finishing the antibiotics, over the years I’ve been able to pop the abscess though it wasn’t very much puss that came out at all, so I figured I was ok as long as I was able to drain it.
Avatar f tn The only possible reason for this abscess that I can think of is that about a year ago, my front tooth got the corner chipped off. Please respond asap... I am a worrier!! This discussion is related to dental abscess.
Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar m tn The gum above the tooth is also perfectly fine. I had an abscess tooth before (oddly the exact same tooth just on the opposite side) about 2 years ago. The constant pressure feeling is the same but the swelling looks slightly different. When tapping my abscessed tooth there was incredible pain but now when i tap this tooth the pain hardly changes. The gum tissue above my abscessed tooth was also very sensitive, dark pink, and began to develop a boil. There is no sign of that this time.
Avatar m tn I had an abscess in my tooth and it has been extracted now it's infected and I am on antibiotics it is still bleeding after 48 hours now just wondering if I could get a bit of advice please

I had some augmentin on hand which I started taking today, can't see dentist until tues. Does anyone know what this is? Please help. Started yesterday, so today is my second day with this pain. Also have slight swelling in my cheek.
Avatar f tn i am having a rear upper tooth extracted tomorrow - the pain will be slightly less than I have had over the last two weeks - this has been flaring up and down since February, but the last episode meant that I looked like I had a golf ball tucked in my cheek - my left nostril was numb, my head was too sore to brush my hair or touch, my neck hurt when I moved my head, my ear was crackling - the nhs dentist refused to drain the abscess but gave me antibiotics, these didnt work and I had another cou
Avatar m tn Judging by your description, it is most likely a fistula which is a tract that forms from the abscess of your infected tooth that escapes out to the gums. As long as the fistula in intact, your abscess can drain and slow down the spread of the abscess but if the fistula closes up, the abscess can spread rapidly through your face or neck area. I would recommend seeing a dentist and getting treatment started.
Avatar f tn I was taken off clindamycin mid-treatment (I was feeling dramatically better, but was taken off it before infection was totally gone for blood tests) and am now trying to play catch-up, back on it and augmentin at the same time. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Ive had one FEC-T chemo, due for another this Wednesday, my wisdom tooth has caused extreme pain, swelling, issues eating, etc. My gums in the rest of my mouth have become very sore as well. Im on Augmentin, but wondering if I could get this tooth pulled?
